hey i commented once before and i finally got that whole doulbe thump thing down..its not easy to learn..but once you DO learn it..its very easy...just practice practice and study....
Everything is easy once you know how to do it. But to learn it, is another thing. Now this guy has probably practiced like hell, and now he has reached the ultimatium. Of course it's easy for him now.
To learn slap and to learn play a chord on the guitar... Big difference in the training. But when you know how to do it... Voilá. Easy peasy.
man, that's one of the most "worth listening to" bass solos I have heard in the last weeks.. shows that keeping a groove going makes the difference between "slapfest in E" and something that sounds like music..
to 9reasy5am - award for dumbest non racist or homophobe comment this year- this guy tours with Whitesnake and others not to mention his own band so he probably has been to a jam session. even if he wasn't he should be able to play any bass he wants w/out judgement
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
wow. that is great. ever go to a jam session? tip if you do: buy a real fender jazz bass. the other musicians will make their first impression and talent potential based on the guitar you play.
fuckin sick video man! I've always wanted to learn the victor wooten slap style but i could never grasp it. Check out my new slap improv vid. It's a lot weaker than yers but its alright, lemme know what u think.
would you mind tell me (us) how you record this vid? what did your bass running through? did u change any p-up or onboard preamp? I like the sound of it and I really like your groove. Coz I'm thinking to get one..
Yo Uriah!! You may not think its that tight but i think you got your point across on how to play a bass groove w/o a drummer. I know its not much, but you played this pentatonic fill @ 4:27 made me have to hit the rewind key a couple of times. Cool idea. Straight up pocket son!! Nice work.
That would make a very boring solo bass video my friend. You gotta use different skills for different situations/gigs. If every bassist did what you said, it'd be a boring world, and there'd be no Billy's, Victors or Jaco's... get my drift?
yo`dawg i never said that...i just said "in the pocket"..im a bassist myself and i experiment with all different kinds of technique wise......and jaco..shit...jacos my favorite bassist id choose him over woten any day of the week :)
@udawggy The funk cuts deep at 1:14. 2:47 changes the world continued through 3:11 and then what confusion helter to the skelter 3:58 it will be alright.. Thats the way I see it anyway. Keep on keepin on
dude you got pockets full o tricks.i love it.hey, quick question. whats the main difference with the DJ maple neck,is it just brighter.Check out a few of my vids if ya got time.peace ,love and lots of practice.
U!! Thanks for the lesson! I have been playing/practicing for over 20 years and have seen my share of bassists that know "how" to tap, but cannot get MUSIC out of it. You really worked it! You have motivated me to keep practicing. Good job!!
You're an idiot if you think he doesn't ever play to a click track, considering he's a professional touring and recording bassist. Just cause his timing is a little off sans drummer doesn't mean he needs to work on his timing. I'm sure he has no problem keeping a steady groove.
