Vinnie, eat your heart out. The year you destroyed the band who was going to "Rule The World" ended up hitting it big time. Man, I'm at age eighteen. Vocalist of many genre's and the high pitch screaming does take it's toll. I can no longer do such... close but not no more. This used to be one of my personal favorites to cover.
I love this song. He had a great voice. I am glad however that a site like youtube wasn't up around then, with all the anonymous people of today expressing their opinions. I wouldn't be surprised if he would have been bashed for having a high pitch voice, like others.
Ive known him sense high school he has always been a great guy and friend... Great voice and fun to hang with back some yrs ago.... used to watch him practice before they "made it"
I hate this song because it's one of those that gets stuck in your head all day for some reason. I remember seeing them live in 91. How things change.
I just recently watched a couple of Live Performances...poor vocal cords!!!! It just breaks my heart to see him sooo upset while performing! This is an AMAZING performance!!! Mark Slaughter ROCKS!!!!
@rockerchick980 a lot of good singers from back in the day lost their amazing voice because of boos and drugs but i dont think mark did for that reason, i think hes just getting old
@holveragtz just saw slaughter last friday night, and you are correct he can still wail like this, being front row infront of speakers when he does it hurts your ears haha
@rickyjshiznit people were telling my spanish teacher songs to play from her computer and i told her this one and she wouldnt play it because she thought it was screamo =[
Not only does Mark Slaughter have an incredible voice...but notice the way he looks RIGHT at the camera; many performers seemingly try to ignore it, and try to focus on the crowd; that has its purpose, too, but looking directly into the camera...especially when filming, or when shown on a jumbo screen for those not close to stage, helps bring them in. Good job, Mark!!!
Layne Staley was one of the few artists who was able to do that and with a "pose" for the video fans. He was a good presence when sober. A near phenom of a showman without the need to bounce about the stage & Mark also. I always did like Laynes singing but now I have a new appreciation of his lack of high notes while still giving you a GREAT performance. There is less of a chance for vocal strain this way. All high note singers in Metal have an issue sooner rather than later. It's sad.
Well Layne Staley wasn't known to be a singer to hit high notes for the simple and obvious fact that he didn't have that broad of a range. And his "good presense" only lasted all of their debut release as heroin quickly took a toll on it starting late '92 onward. Staley was in his prime when no one really knew who in the hell AIC was. See their live performances on Youtube from their 1991 Clash of the Titans tour for your edification.
Man they were so good. Looks to be from the Arsenio Hall Show. I hate that Mark can't hit those notes any more. Definitely one of the nicest bands I got to meet back in the day. Tim and Blas even remembered my name a few times.
holy fuck, mark! never woulda thought he would of been able to reproduce his studio vocals live like this. amazing. and pretty damn sexy, if i do say so myself hahah

What scared her was the name "Slaughter" when I told her it was the lead singers last name, and that they were a drug free band, she was fine.
Eclectic1970 2 years ago
so is that his birth name or did he change it to slaughter?
rickyjshiznit 2 years ago
@rickyjshiznit Mark Slaughter is his given name.
