No matter what the true story of Creation is, I think it all pretty much comes down to where and when the mention of Lilith started. Some say Sumeria, some say the middle ages. This has been debated for centuries, and until Lilith herself comes out of hiding and tells us, with proof for the more skeptical, no one will ever know. The scientists believe they know, the religious believe they know. but no one knows if ANYONE is right, let alone who that is.
@vaggos94 what you say is true, only in modern Greek! In ANCIENT Greek "Demon" actually means "spirit", no matter if it's a good or an evil one... In fact there is a phrase ("αγαθός δαίμων" / "agathos demon") witch means "good spirit" :)

The "bible" is both Old and New Testament, and the Old Testament was originally written almost exclusively in classical Hebrew, not Greek. That version (the Septuagint) is just a translation. I'm not sure what point you were trying to make and I don't care about your beliefs, but you still seem are misguided.
@ASFX07 I think the point she was getting at was that in Classical Greek (not Koine), the word 'demon' was not necessarily a bad thing; the word might even be translated 'divine one' (at least in Homeric Greek). Of course, in the NT it is certainly a negative thing. People who allege that the NT writers are giving the 'daemons' a bad press clearly don't understand that word meanings evolve over time.
@awhooker I would absolutely accept the translation "divine one" in Koine as well as classical forms of Greek, except that, as you rightly point out, this would not fit well with the contexts found in the New Testament. So yes indeed. But I have to say, this NT talk is confusing me a little. Lilith is not a figure who is mentioned in the New Testament, so any quibbling about Greek is surely an irrelevance...?

And true, that many people have done horrible things in the name of God, but those kinds of people just don't get it. Some people are wrong, it is just sad that there are people out there that give others the wrong impression of Chrisians.

Not to mention what is taught within churches are their approved interpretations of the bible. They held councils for everything - from what books were going to be approved for the Canon & wether Jesus was a created being or part of what is now called the trinity. I agree with the rest of what you wrote.

The greek word for demon is...spirit. People look it up! The bible was written in greek. By the way no disrespect to the beliefs of Judea Christians but a god who exiles a woman for standing up for what she believes in is no god of mine. Sorry I just can't stand the mind set of those who did and still do think that women are 2nd class citizens. Oh and who do terrible things to other people in the name of "God"

@AmyNichole951 everyone is entitled to their own believes. But I think its hardly fair to blame a God for people who say that they do terrible things in his/her name. Mostly when people say they do things in the name of God, it really means that they use God as en excuse to do what THEY want. So mostly its about power and people use God as an excuse to justify their actions. You really shouldnt blame the god of the Judea Christians for this, for it is a sign of ignorance.

@AmyNichole951 Generally I agree with you. However, the greek word for demon is the same one (spelled themonas). Spirit is something else, it is like a ghost and is spelled pnevma.

@AmyNichole951The bible was written in three languages, Aramaic, Hebrew, and Greek, not one. The concept of "demon" as a malevolent spiritual entity is consistent in passages written in native Aramaic and Hebrew.
I'm no Christian and I really couldn't care less what your beliefs are regarding demons, but please don't make the traditionally religious mistake of twisting information to fit your purposes.

@AmyNichole951 The Greek Word for demon is δαιμόνιον (transliterated = daimonion). Please take it from me. I study Theology and have spent a long time reading the New Testament in Greek. The "bible" is both Old and New Testament, and the Old Testament was originally written almost exclusively in classical Hebrew, not Greek. That version (the Septuagint) is just a translation. I'm not sure what point you were trying to make and I don't care about your beliefs, but you still seem are misguided.

@ASFX07 I think the point she was getting at was that in Classical Greek (not Koine), the word 'demon' was not necessarily a bad thing; the word might even be translated 'divine one' (at least in Homeric Greek). Of course, in the NT it is certainly a negative thing. People who allege that the NT writers are giving the 'daemons' a bad press clearly don't understand that word meanings evolve over time.

@awhooker I would absolutely accept the translation "divine one" in Koine as well as classical forms of Greek, except that, as you rightly point out, this would not fit well with the contexts found in the New Testament. So yes indeed. But I have to say, this NT talk is confusing me a little. Lilith is not a figure who is mentioned in the New Testament, so any quibbling about Greek is surely an irrelevance...?

@ASFX07 Well, if one is open to accepting that divinities can be negative, then I don't see what is wrong with understanding this as a background to the NT 'demon' (however, I think we should retain the word 'demon' to highlight the negative qualities they have).
Also, yes, I agree that it's weird that Greek should be the language talked about in regards to Lilith, especially since Lilith is a Hebrew word! ^_^

But I agree with you guy 100% Just thought I'd mention that. It should also be mention that first pic is of the Sumerian goddess Inanna and that story of Lilth happen way before th bible with the Sumerians, which pre-exsist christianity.

@AmyNichole951 I in no way agree with judeo-christians, but I feel the need to point out that most christians don't accept the story of lilith as truth. You're also wrong about the bible being written in greek. Kind of. A good portion of it was written in greek, but there are some books which mention demons that were written in other languages. And to christians if god is the embodiment of love and he loves me like a son then why would he throw me in a burning pit to torture me for eternity

@AmyNichole951 Many people don't believe in the story of Lilith. I myself am a Christian and had never even heard of her until recently. She may be myth, may not be. And true, that many people have done horrible things in the name of God, but those kinds of people just don't get it. They don't understand God and his love and are not true in the ways the Bible teaches us. Some people are wrong, it is just sad that there are people out there that give others the wrong impression of Chrisians.

@AmyNichole951 Actually it was translated into Greek, and transcribing from one language into another the transcriber had to find a word that closely fit - but it changed the original meaning. Not to mention what is taught within churches are their approved interpretations of the bible. They held councils for everything - from what books were going to be approved for the Canon & wether Jesus was a created being or part of what is now called the trinity. I agree with the rest of what you wrote.

Lilith was pre Adam and Eva, she is meant to be the basis of Adam and Eva's creation but apparently god hated her and sent her away, no where in history be it bible or by the words of kabbalah does it ever mention her death/destruction just like Adam and Eva where meant to have eternal life so thus does Lilith and unlike her later screw ups she never got it revoked.

@RobinAirlight Actually, to correct you... Lillith was created to be Adam's wife first. But because she refused as she wanted to be equal to him and not a broodmare and servant, she was exiled and banished. Given to Lucifer instead. She was never intended to be a Succubus.

@ChildofMorrigan I know all that but we are going into half of the stuff most people do not believe because it was not included in the Bible and usually only those who go into Kabbalah know about Lilith being Adam's wife. She was always from the very beginning intended to be a Succubus because there is a Goddess that the Christian Lilith is actually considered to be based off of.
