Do anyone know why the monks clap their hands?

It's partly for effect, but it also symbolizes slamming the door on rebirth in the lower 3 realms of existence.

The lower 3 realms are the various hells, the hungry ghost realm, and the animal realm.

i think and also it means the one clapping the hands represents the side raising the question (offense) for the other opponent to "defend" his viewpoints. that's what my teacher said.
