@mylesid Im a cbrn specialist it is an interesting M.O.S! essentially you will be trained on identifying agents and decontaminating troops and equipment you will also be in charge of your units equipment such as pro-masks MOPP gear and detection equipment any other questions feel free to ask

Winter you gonna freeze to death. summer you gonna get heat strokes. so all together....its boring

Currently I am a CBRN NCO in CAV unit. The most useless MOS in our days, unless we are going to war with countries like Korea or IRan!!!

If you are an Active person and like to conduct high speed stuff, DO NOT TAKE 74D MOS. Go for 11B or 18 series MOS.

I went through Chem School at Ft. McClellan in 96, never did one smoke mission after AIT, lol. Was fun to go through the school though, but seriously good luck, and pay attention.

I did two hitches with this MOS in the 60s when it was 54E. The first three years, I actually worked it: I was a CBRN school instructor, worked in a CBRN center in a HQ (THAT was thumb twiddling), and was a battalion CBRN NCO. The second hitch was all in intelligence units. All involved me doing clerical (not CBRN) work, or just sitting around. I ended up as a supply sergeant.

I have been a 92Y for 3 years (in December of 2010) and I have three remaining years on my contract (come December 2010) and I want to reclass to something else. Also, I am no longer on active duty (due to medical reasons) and I was advised by a career counselor to reclass to something less strenuous.

74D is the most pointless mos in the Army. I picked it and spent the last 3 years as supply sergeant, which was a blessing because it helped me get an awesome job with a defense contractor. Even the Chemical units do nothing but post details.

I second that! It is especially bad if you are Guard or Reserves. The equipment you use in AIT won't actually trickle down to your unit for at least 10 years or more. There is a reason why NBC is also called the "NoBody Cares" MOS! LOL!

Haha, this video is a joke. I have been a 74d for the past 2yrs and the only time I've seen anything like what was in the video was in AIT. All I do is run a Arms Room for my Battery. I have a chemical room that I use for storage, as I never do anything chemical, ever...haha.

Been a 74D with a CAV airborne unit for 4 years, it sucks, can't wait to get out. I ran a gas chamber once, other than that all I did was issue out promasks. You will do other jobs like training room, arms room, supply, and lots and lots of connex packing and unpacking. When you deploy you will work in the TOC and do RTO/radio guard 8-12 hrs a day every day for 12 months. Choosing this MOS was one of the worst mistakes of my life, I got nothing out of it.
