74D is an irrevelant MOS in the army right now..its always been and always will..if you want to choose it, dont..if you already have, i feel sorry for you
@mylesid Im a cbrn specialist it is an interesting M.O.S! essentially you will be trained on identifying agents and decontaminating troops and equipment you will also be in charge of your units equipment such as pro-masks MOPP gear and detection equipment any other questions feel free to ask
@mylesid ....All i got to say your next 3 1/2 years going to suck if your active and the shit they teach you in A.i.T none of it not gonna be used in the unit..pretty much you really don't need a.,i.t all they really gonna say when you get to your unit they will teach you how to use the equipment. and leonard wood is the worst place to go for training. Winter you gonna freeze to death. summer you gonna get heat strokes. so all together....its boring
@pumpkinpatc man this mos is gay that i would be a janitor right now. Six more months to go before i can enroll in the B.E.A.R program. Don't choose this mos. I'm saving your 3 years
Abbreviations are for pussies, let's just say chemical biological radiological and nuclear specialist all day. I know you look cool saying it, but goddamn that get's annoying after a while.
You actually do this? Please dont take me as being a jerk, I heard you end up doing none of what the job is suppose to entail... I hope I heard wrong.
@doinworksonnnnn all you do is Powerpoints for the 1st 3 weeks and then after that be in level 4 mopps suit all damn day. and from what the instructors say most likely you will be doing supplying, and teaching your unit how to be prepared for a chemical attack. if your not going to a chemical unit be expected to be a NCO
@hohobojo oh awesome, i really want to be with the infantry & do what they do. im just really hoping i dont get stuck in decon but some of the other chemical units like tech escort & recon seem pretty badass. what unit were you with?
@mcer13 Good luck, go earn your Retorts. I loved Chemical, I was 54B before they changed to 74D. Used to be known as NBC, now CBRN. Still sounds like a TV Station, only a religious channel now. I went through Chem School at Ft. McClellan in 96, never did one smoke mission after AIT, lol. Was fun to go through the school though, but seriously good luck, and pay attention.
@AGCSProductions wow what a coincidence dude... i'll leave on 20110425, that's the orientation week but the BCT is on 20110502. Yup see you there, add me up in fb.
Enlisted in august as a 74D and don't ship till after i graduate. definately looking forward to Ranger school just keepin up with the PT 6 days a week
this video makes this MOS seem a hundred times better than what it really is...and this video makes this MOS look like shit. I hate 74D. Definitely chose the wrong one...
What about trying to join a CRD with a SF Group? What about SNBCV's and Foxes? Trust me...there are PLENTY of high-speed options that the Infantry and Cav can't even touch. We are also the only non-18 series MOS's that are on SF ODB's.
I did two hitches with this MOS in the 60s when it was 54E. The first three years, I actually worked it: I was a CBRN school instructor, worked in a CBRN center in a HQ (THAT was thumb twiddling), and was a battalion CBRN NCO. The second hitch was all in intelligence units. All involved me doing clerical (not CBRN) work, or just sitting around. I ended up as a supply sergeant.
@sp0rkm0nkey I am thinking of reclassing from my current MOS 92Y to this MOS. Is it a good job to have in the Army or is it a total waste of time.
