  • you look like youre raising with more momentum than sheer muscle. exercises like this are just too damn painful for me. i hate raises. they must really work as much as they hurt. i rather do rows and presses for lat delts.

  • Lee Vince ...thanks the advice is appreciated and used

  • what about more slow controlled movements, not using inertia, ex. hold at the top for 2, 3 seconds, better result or not at all?

  • @samsungprin

That's what "regular lateral raises" are for. You could do those at the beginning if you like and then do these "power lateral raises" at the end to really fry your delts.

  • wow its the situation

  • What gym is that?

  • @bWENN725

    It's Las Vegas Athletic Club.

  • how do you pair your muscle groups? like chest and bis shoulders and tris?

  • @stylescla123

There are all kinds of body part splits you can follow. But a common one is:

    Chest, shoulders, and triceps.

    Back and biceps.

    And legs and abs.

  • @leemhayward okay thanks lee these vids r great!! keep it up man

  • NICE BACK WORKOUT, you swing with ur back, nice job, give me the shoulder workout now!

  • That is a LEGIT shoulder workout right there!

  • Lee, could I do this with kettle bells?

I'll apologize ahead of time if this is a repeat question but is it okay to work shoulders and back or is that competing exercises?

    thnxs!

  • @achillies0

Yes, a lot of guys use kettle bells for shoulder exercises like this. And yes you can pair up shoulders and back if you like. There are all kinds of training and bodypart splits you could follow.

  • i alwayes play these exercices 4 my shoulders but does it have a damage on the shoulders

i mean iv been diong them 4 some time???

  • @osama559

No this isn't damaging your shoulders. Despite what the "slow and controlled" guys keep saying your body isn't that fragile. Just look at Olympic lifters they are very explosive with all their lifts and those guys are strong as hell. In fact almost all athletes uses explosive techniques. Just watch a baseball player swing a bat, a tennis player smash a serve, of a boxer through a punch. Do you see these folks go in slow motion? Heck no, they move as explosively as they can.

  • @leemhayward yeah but those "explosive techniques" should not be used more than once a month, because they create wear and tear damage to your joints since you are pushing the limit of your body and not to forget that they are the most common reason for severe injuries.

  • looks like a fun and morale boosting exercise mate.kind of old school.''body english'' as an english bloke find that quite a strange saying but i like it.your vids are pretty real if you get me.not too serious but not ''goofy'' like a lot of them.cheers squire.i'll try them today.

  • Thank you for sharing!! Ill try this tomorrow

  • nice quads

  • I tried to do that before I even watch your videos.. that was good though.. I like working out like that..

  • i dunno...that looks good to gain strength..but i think there are betteer methods to hit more muscles

  • one thing that works real well for the shoulders, when youre at the gym find the incline bench machine, sit in it backwards and do a few sets, you might need to lift it before sitting down if youre using heavy weights

  • should you work out your shoulders the same they as your back? cus atm im doin shoulders with triceps and chest, it sounds good theoreticly but when i work out my shoulders it feels like they hit my trapz abit.

im 16 and from sweden so pls dont complain about spellingerrors and such :)

  • This is to gain strenght

  • siraulo!

  • i do not think this works for a good isolation because of this swing..

  • Vince is a skinny moron.

  • ummm its a one arm kettlebell swing

  • ...that yes, this will work out your shoulder, no question. but its hazerdous. Not to mention that buddy Vince DelMonte sounds like he has NO idea what he is talking about, and that he obviously has undertrained shoulders. Only bashing this guy because someone eventually will, or has. are they really designed to lift heavy ass weight? hell no. and by "designed" im still not sure what you mean. i'll stop bashing you now. You get the point.

  • I wish I could give this two thumbs up

  • @Schmorgasblab How can you get an "awsome" workout for any muscle by lifting weight that is not heavy enough to force most of the muscle tissue to work? I'm interested to know what you think of that idea—heavy weight to recruit as many fibres as possible. How is that thinking wrong?

  • @aboctok What I'm saying is, lifting weight like that actually doesn't isolate the shoulder. Not saying that its not working muscles bro. Hes using a lot of back and legs. This is why you should do medium weight and focus on control. I guarantee that if he cut that weight in half and did it slower it would work it out waayyy better.

  • LOL! that other guy makes me laugh so extremely hard. "your shoulders are DESIGNED to do a lot of work, a lot of heavy work... designed to handle this so, a lot of people understrain their shoulders, designed to go long, go heavy..." You can't tell me that doesn't sound completely reatrded. First of all who the fuck is this guy? Second, you dont need to do heavy weight at ALL to get an awesome workout - for any muscle - specifically shoulders. This looks so bad for you. I understand (cont).

  • @Schmorgasblab Second, you dont need to do heavy weight at ALL to get an awesome workout - for any muscle - specifically shoulders

dude your a pussy enough said..lift some weight lol

  • @Schmorgasblab Yea I was just thinking this, shoulders were not designed for heavy weights. The shoulder itself is unstable in most people and doing heavy weights is just asking for an injury. Shoulders are all for stability, core/legs/back are your power.

  • @Schmorgasblab u fuckin smartass!! bitch!!

  • @Schmorgasblab

retard.. this was posted a year ago but ill comment anyways. Thats Vince DelMonte.. hes a professional bodybuilder.. if ur gonna get advice from someone hes the guy to get it from.. Ignorant people out there and u sure are one..u probably a skinny twig so next time educate urself before u talk and sound like an idiot

  • Looks like a one arm snatch, not a Lateral Raise.

  • hey thats LVAC flamingo & sandhill huh?

  • you shouldn't undertrain any body part obviously, but the shoulder is a small muscle group. Look at an anatomy chart. They respond better to higher volume, less weight (get a pump). This exercise is terrible for your joints and your shoulder itself. I like these videos a lot, I think they are great, but i don't recommend this exercise.

  • youre too ripped it looks silly

  • @XAnalcheeseX it is possible to get too fat, it is possible to get too skinny. But there is no one on this planet who's "too ripped"! come on, the more ripped you look the better

  • Both these guys are not "ripped"

  • lee hayard is! his recent vids he is cut to fuck. going through diet season for a comp

  • True...but strength is what they do have.

  • who wear afflication to workout? fucking fruit cake prep get a life

  • why do you care what other people wear?...

  • a lot of the comments on this vid remind me of this time this skinny scrawny funny looking dude came up to me and my buddy at the gym to tell us that our form was "all over the place", cuz we were rocking a bit while doing bent over rows. lolz... and yea we both were way more built than him. some guys should just shut up, but thats youtube.

  • it look´s like a kettlebell training which the freefighters or luta-livre-wrestler do...

  • very similar to Arnold's alternating front raises with heavy weights but the negative should be much more controlled.

this looks less efficient since you're doing both delts separately because you're swinging it between the legs and not alternating by the sides. no disrespect but i wouldnt bother using this version even if it allows you to swing up a heavier weight its obviously going to be harder to control and benefit you less.

  • One of the most common comments on bar bell curls is momentum. Who cares, and oh you'll injure your back will you. Lee has a combined 1500 lbs powerlifting. if your squating and deadlifting 500 plus you dont have to worry about 50 lbs.

  • trying to control heavy weight like that on a negative can really cause some joint damage

  • The guy isn't using his back... if you knew anything about weight lifting you'd see that he's using his legs and head properly to minimize strain on the back.

  • I have one word to say, three times = momentum momentum momentum! WOW you did 50 pounds LOL Come on! Swinging the weight like that takes all the resistance away and you're using gravity

  • but you're not controlling it on the negative. you're just swinging the weight. i've been working out for 17 yrs and you're not maximizing your energy. you'd get twice the effect if you lowered the weight and did 2 up, 4 down. when you finished you were not even in any kind of pain. like i said you don't know what you're doing.

  • The first exercise he does is probably impossible to perform without hurting your back. I think that exercise should be done only once, maybe twice a month because it's a swing movement and can could cause pain in the back. It's a good work out, but not on a regular basis.

  • oh shut up you don't know shit about lifting

  • Are you saying you should only ever do slow movements, 4 down? In my opinion its fine to use momentum if you want. WHY NOT ? Someone please tell me and i don't want a you'll injure yourself because that's just funny.

  • wojtek000 is obviously upset guys please stop wearing shirts

  • and look at the geek/tribal avatar at 1:17, what is it with these beefcakes and tribal shirts and tattoos. i workout and i dont care for that gay ass avatar shit. fucking fags. they're just trying to fit into society. how pathetic. be yourself loser.

  • control the weight dummy. momentum is not your friend.

  • The idea is to use momentum to get a heavier weight up than you normally could, then focus on the negative part of the rep to work the muscle as you control the descent of the weight. That method could be applied to almost any exercise.

  • HG: "nothing will happen to our shoulders. It will happen to YOU and thomansian if you dont stop spaming Lees stuff! Just mind your own bussines, if you dont like it dont do it but stop spamming!"

I forgive you for not using the magic word, But you sure got me completely terrified. I hope at least some of the watchers question these type of excercises.

  • Reply from HG: "HE DOES! Because i used it myself! So get the hell out of here and stop commenting crap!! You dont know ANYTHING about what you do in the gym!"

Hardgainer... Those who lack knowledge in anatomy, will do this type of excercises. And thats perfectly fine by me. I can´t forbid any persons to do these things, I´m just glad that there´s someone out there to take care of you and your shoulders some day in the future, for a noticeable cost. It´s your call!

  • nothing will happen to our shoulders. It will happen to YOU and thomansian if you dont stop spaming Lees stuff! Just mind your own bussines, if you dont like it dont do it but stop spamming!

  • You can send 1000 of comments but you can see he dosnt answer you anymore, he is too busy for gym rats and wanna-bes like you, and neither do i, i can see that you havent a single year of experience YOU NEVER WORKED OUT IN YOUR LIFE! admit it!! come on admit it! someone who did dosnt have this behavior! Go away you rat! and GET A LIFE!

  • so what?? You can have 100 YEARS of fitness and bodybuilding if you are misinformed you are misinformed it dosent matter the time, so cheek your ego and listen to Raducu The Bear because he is a MASTER! He transformed me!

  • STUPID IS YOU! You dont know ANYTHING about weight training, your just a poor "trainer" full of crap, i cant stand peopole like you!

  • Its not momentum, its a SMOITH POWER motion as the Clean&Press, is very comon in powerlifting, so all you idiots go first and read something about the ways of weight training!

  • A kettlebell works much better...This guy is a total idiot. Using 50 lbs on his first attempt is suicide .

  • crappp

  • you are all clearly bodybuilding brainwashed morons.

this is a perfectly fine exercise to do. the point is not to use 100 lbs but a little momentum BECAUSE THE BODY FUNCTIONS AS A UNIT. search "dumbbell swing" and it is a very functional and effective excercise. this is simply a one arm dumbbell swing.

  • this is soooooo wrong, and not very smart thing to do.

  • sorry mate but ur shouldersr very fragile y do u tink loads ppl hav fucked rotator cuffs from goin 2 te gym? ans heavy shoulder dumbell moves tat rnt controlled

  • I don't take advice from anyone in an Affliction T-shirt

  • omg vince is everywhere on the internet work out related

  • Medals and coaching programs doesn´t make you an expert in anatomy. The results are more likely due to good genetics. I´ve checked out many other workout-videos on this channel. I´m puzzled that in fact, good and accurate tips is mixed with pure crap. How can that be if he knows "his" stuff?

  • HE DOES! Because i used it myself! So get the hell out of here and stop commenting crap!! You dont know ANYTHING about what you do in the gym!

  • Well Hardgainer, If you call that excercise LATERAL raises, you just set your standard. Of course you do something, that´s for sure, but the goal is what?? Get good throwing a dumbell in front of you? Nothings wrong by that, but please don´t try telling that the exercise is effective. Do you or your friend have an degree in anatomy or physiology? Cuz I strongly doubt it, With all do respect.....

  • You can bet he has, Lee Hayward is a natural bodybuilding and powerlifting champion, he has even a few medals, and 2 coaching programs: Blast Your Bench and Your First Bodybuilding Competition, so dont tell me that lee isnt one of the best on earth! And that "throwing" exercice is a smoth-power exericice to develop explosive strenght and conditioning in the entire body! Just like the cleans or snatches!

  • person one says this doesn´t work the shoulders at all, person two says the weight is to heavy, you will ruin your shoulders...

  • Well that´s another proof that you can be big and say whatever you want, no matter how wrong it is, and people listen to it. What does he want to accomplish? This is barely a LATERAL raise, but more lika a FRONT raise, that´s bad for the shoulderjoint. Well, monkey see, monkey do.

  • Pezerulez Haakon, Lee is not "just big" how you say, he is a natural bodybuilding and powerlifting champion, i think he has even a few medals, AND he knows his stuff better than all you idiots put together!!

  • lol idiot at gym ... this will FUCK UP you shoulder like crap ... he's literary just throwing the weight around ... no contraction, no controled movement, no pump, no burn, no muscle workout ... I recomend slow, controled, medium weigh, raises an presses

  • seems like this focuses more on the negative end of the pump

  • what I do is just use one arm and focus on keeping my back straight Ill do three and then switch arms and do three in strict form for like a set of 9 on each shoulder it works very well in actually getting the extra work and it isolates.

  • wow, um yeah this definitely looks like it could cause injury very easily. I'll pass on this "shoulder" exercise.

  • shit workout

  • shit is in your brain PODZAW, thats an awesome exercice!

  • i would of said this was more of core and idid not think the motion he was swinging the weight was correct to isolate the shoulder muscle

  • leemhayward, you normally go 25/30lbs and now you're doing 50lbs with this exercise. The reason you were able to do 50lbs on this exercise is b/c you're swinging and using momentum. I'd rather do the other exercise and not ruin my shoulders by swinging around heavier weight.

  • Agreed.

  • No shit, if these guys really knew their shit they would at least warn people this could cause shoulder damage. This should be an example how not to do a shoulder exercise. More brawn than brains. And that Vince dickmonte is just a joke, look at the guys body.

  • dude, cut the deca diet and don't encourage half the kids here to dislocate their shoulders. Come on guys

  • phil878 i can bet with you that you wodnt "dislocate" anythig, as you can see hes not swinging it, he is using explosive power from his legs!!

  • Lee Hayward you kick ass. You're workout programs like blast your bench are going to make me the Sex God of Clayton,North Carolina. But really that ain't sayin' much. cool vids dude.

  • tried this workout with the other killer shoulder workout and they awesome to do.

  • i did that exercise yesterday and it was a great workout 4 the shoulders

  • thanks lee great vid

  • I disagree shoulders are built to go heavy

  • heavy weight with shoulders can mess your rotor cuff up, and hurt your delts. use ligt wiegt12-20 kbs for rookie 15-25 for pro.

  • agreed

  • lol kbs its not a computer u mean kgs

  • Watch out though that you don't go too high...improper form on those can lead to entrapment...unfortunately, I know all about that...

  • I'm def going to give this a try next work on shoulder day. I need something to mix it up from the regular lateral raises im getting kinda tired of those. Thanks for the video lee keep workin hard brah.

  • I tried this technique today and yes, it really had some affect on the shoulders. thanks lee.

    keep 'em coming.

  • basic a modified kettlebell swing with a db and controlled eccentric, nothing new. Try y presses, press the dumbbells out in a y shape.

  • Well it was new to me anyway and I just wanted to share it. From the comments it seems pretty new to several people.

  • thanks lee. I'll try out today :)

  • I was doing this today with 65's

    It is great

  • sweet iam going to try

  • love watching your vid's defo give this one a go on shoulders day!

  • nice! i've seen vince on youtube. pretty cool two youtube bodybuilders going at it

as for shoulder raises, i do them 20 myself but dang 30 to 50 lb increase. that means i'm gonna be doing 40s if i was to do that. seems like an intense work out. maybe ill give it a try later
