@j2201987 The Grover Norquist pledge of "No Tax Increases Ever" is unconstitutional. But nearly every Republican in Congress has signed it and fears breaking it. Norquist told "60 Minutes" the pledge represents "the people." The only people who benefit from it are the 1%.

@Madfoot713 Think. We had a pretty good economy under the Clinton tax rates. People were doing well in their lives. Enter Bush and the Republican demolition derby. Inequality has been growing since Reagan, but it grew exponentially under Bush. Middle class wages stagnated until late-2007, at which they began to disappear as the jobs losses began. Between 2007-2009, 8.7M jobs were lost. I think the middle class realizes that.

he was denied food stamps because he didnt work at least 10 hours a week somewhere. they told him to get a letter from someone stating he baby sits their kids for at least ten hours a week and re apply!

The economy grew fast in those periods, the difference between the rich and poor was falling from 1947 to 1973.

we do need to reduce government spending. we do need to increase the efficiency of social programs. but we also need to raise taxes. we can't pay off big bills without increasing national income. its a sad truth, but it is the truth. we need to cut spending and increase taxes. i for one would like a scaling tax system that puts everyone a little closer to bringing home 50k a year. if they make less they get taxed less, if they make more they get taxed more.

1.2 trillion in automatic cuts + Obama's already 1 Trillion in cuts... for 2013 (New Presidential Term), combined with the expiration of Bush Era Tax Cuts for everybody... which mean new revenues back to Clinton Era... which means no matter who the President is (hopefully Obama) the deficit will come down dramatically and our Federal Government will be on a Fiscal path to debt repayment in 10 years...

@Madfoot713 Think. We had a pretty good economy under the Clinton tax rates. People were doing well in their lives. Enter Bush and the Republican demolition derby. Inequality has been growing since Reagan, but it grew exponentially under Bush. Middle class wages stagnated until late-2007, at which they began to disappear as the jobs losses began. Between 2007-2009, 8.7M jobs were lost. I think the middle class realizes that.

@Madfoot713 Moreover, the GOP is using the excuse of the financial mess they made to take down the social safety net which protects the poor, the unemployed, and the elderly. They've even talked about privatizing vets' benefits, along with Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
How would you like to have been a retiree with a private pension plan in the fall of 2008 when the financial markets collapsed. Social Security, at least, remained constant.

@Madfoot713 Conservatives have been complaining about Social Security since it was enacted in 1933, and about Medicare since before the ink was dry on the Act in 1964. Both have withstood constitutionality via opinions handed down from the U.S. Supreme Court. I feel comfortable the same wisdom will hold true for the health care law next year. The most destructive deficit we face is that of reasonableness by the ideological Republican bloc in Congress. Fix that and a lot falls in line.

welfare is full of leeches and foodstamps as well. i know people who are perfectly healthy and prefer to just sit on their asses and take welfare money from the govt. my brothers godparents use foodstamps and they have a bmw a hummer, and a big 2 story house. do they derserve to have foodstamps? fuck no. or does someone who has no car, no home, etc more fit to have programs like these. These programs are seriously flawed to a point where anyone can abuse them freely.

he was denied food stamps because he didnt work at least 10 hours a week somewhere. they told him to get a letter from someone stating he baby sits their kids for at least ten hours a week and re apply!
