I miss when the Pc games market was full of independent companies. Made the games so much better because they were made to play well, not look pretty. Alas those days a long gone and so is this quality of game. I weep for the gamers of today I really do.
And its going to be another awful FPS because that is a genre that isn't played out and needs more and more games. This is the strategy in game design as of late: 1.) Take a glorius title from the 90's and remake it into an FPS 2.) Make it absolutely nothing like the original source material. Examples: Syndicate Wars, Shadowrun, and I even hear they're going to ruin X-COM.
Its like nobody wants to put in the work these days. They just want to keep making the same old bullshit.
It's ironic that Syndicate is a game about company's and profits(greed etc) and that old-timers say they liked that, yet they are mad that EA want just that --->Profits from it's games and there is no money in RTS games anymore.
Why don't you spend 15 million on a game and lose 9 of that just "to keep it real" in true original RTS style, EA's share holders are not going to do that.
I think they could pull it off on PC, but RTS on consoles just doesn't work too well. I love a good FPS but it shouldn't be the end-all design of video games. Especially when you are reworking a classic. That is what makes me upset, when they take a classic and remake it into a FPS which ends up being unsuccessful anyway, for instance, Shadowrun FPS that came out on PC and Xbox.

The game is loosing it's dark body and soul controlling sheen which was a part of Syndicate and Syndicate Wars. You cannot kidnap/abduct people to use at will without there being some dark motives. To modify others against their will and use them as pawns in your schemes. That was a part of the world of Syndicate. Now it is nothing more than cliche.

It only changed the things that needed to be changed to improve the gameplay and get with the times. MP3 looks as removed from the franchise as could be. Bullfrog is now dead, but EA purchased the rights to the Syndicate franchise. Starbreeze Studios has a thing called Project Redlime, which is rumored to be a reboot of the Syndicate games. I certainly hope so. Syndicate Wars was well ahead of its time.

What a classic game from the GOLDEN AGE of pc games. Back when game stores had pc games a plenty on they're shelves, With the FULL size pc boxes too. Back when they packed all sorts of goodies in with the game. This was truly and awesome game when it came out! Game companys today are so bloated and corporate they have forgotten how games used to be......ORIGINAL! Every gamer today should have this classic on their harddrives!
Some of the old games were so packed with goodies,back- and side- stories and interesting manuals that I was just as excited to read them on the bus on the way home from the shop. Now all you get is a piece of cheap plastic and an advertisment for the Sim 3 hat accessories packs :(

I just got a double pack. Original sticker price on it said $29.99. I got it for $20 - what were the games you ask? Only the original System Shock and Warhammer 40k Space Hulk!!!! Mostly all I play now is retro PC games, and in the future I think that's ALL I will be playing!

As for this, it's beyond my comprehension how a single company could create so many masterpieces, each being completely different from the other. Populous, Dungeon K, SW, GeneWars, Theme Hospital...wow.

Now, Swedish dev team Starbreeze is working on a sequel/remake, which means it's gonna be an FPS for sure.
I'm not hyped about Syndicate turning into an FPS... but since they made Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness, both good games, there's still hope...
@badpeq Even if Starbreeze 'do' turn it into an FPS, Fallout 3 is a prime example of how reimagining a game does not always screw it up. Sure, there was a lot of Controversy over bethesda making 'Oblivion in the future with guns', but the game itself was both amazing and a massive success.
Personally, I think that the idea behind Syndicate could work very well with an FPS. But also, simply because Starbreeze are well known for their FPS games, doesn't mean that's necessarily all they can do :)
@Grigeral I hope they get creative with the corporate management between missions. That's the essencial part that can really immerse the player in this dystopian world: you're not just fighting in it, you're shaping it.
Syndicate will be compared to Eidos' Deus Ex 3, a cyborg FPS with RPG elements.
Syndicate needs to stand on its own as a strategy FPS, with emphasis on squad-based tactics. And I think Starbreeze has a really tough job on their hands.
@badpeq exactly. Syndicate is an tactiacal top-down-perspective Squad-Shooter. A good example for transforming a Videogame into new Perspectives successfully ist GTA 1 vs GTA 3 or 4. Hope they stick to the idea and specific style of Syndicate more than to the perspective.
@Grigeral yea, i think that's the point. I'm pretty sure it's possible to recreate Syndicate in a modern shape. And Starbreeze Studios has a good reputation for making solid and innovative (not too simple) games. I hope for news coming up soon.
Hell yeah, except, I can't remember which gun that is :P I haven't played this game in years. Last time I installed it on a newer computer and it ran WAY too fast, so I couldn't really play it properly. I remember when I played the first one, I used to gather like 30 people with the persuadertron gun, fit them all into a car, get out, and then torch the car with a laser; and if I got lucky, they would all pile out of the car on fire screaming and running around to an agonizing death. muahahaha!!
EA isn't necessarily bad. keyword being necessarily. syndicate wars was made after EA had acquired bullfrog and it rocked.
EA owned Origin when they made System Shock, Privateer, Bioforge and most importantly UO,
The problem arises when EA either holds the IP in limbo due to greed or mangles the IP like what happened with UO. but molyneux is rich enough to buy back syndicate...

I concur. This game was one of the key elements of my cyberpunk upbringing, and educational deprogramming. ;) But more importantly, it DEMANDS a remake with current technology. "They don't make 'em like they used to..." You got that right! Syndicate Wars 2, please!

I never got to play the first game. But I remember the hell out of the demo. Get that hypno gun create an army of civilians. Take firearms from fallen police. Take firearms from fallen hypnotized people.
One click? Blows cars up from a massive deluge of small arms fire. Loudest sound ever of multiple pistols going off. AT THE SAME TIME. BLOWING UP A TRAIN WITH A PISTOL!

Bullfrog were an excellent games development company, they made so many classic titles. Apparently Lionhead or somebody is working on a new Syndicate game.

What a classic game from the GOLDEN AGE of pc games. Back when game stores had pc games a plenty on they're shelves, With the FULL size pc boxes too. Back when they packed all sorts of goodies in with the game. This was truly and awesome game when it came out! Game companys today are so bloated and corporate they have forgotten how games used to be......ORIGINAL! Every gamer today should have this classic on their harddrives!

Some of the old games were so packed with goodies,back- and side- stories and interesting manuals that I was just as excited to read them on the bus on the way home from the shop. Now all you get is a piece of cheap plastic and an advertisment for the Sim 3 hat accessories packs :(

Thanks to compatability mode, Virtual PC and DOSBox, all the greatest games (and every greatest game is pre 2005!) can now be played easily!
I just got a double pack. Original sticker price on it said $29.99. I got it for $20 - what were the games you ask? Only the original System Shock and Warhammer 40k Space Hulk!!!! Mostly all I play now is retro PC games, and in the future I think that's ALL I will be playing!

@HardWarUK I'm completely with ya. The new games are god-awful. They're just the same concept consecutively cycled over and over, and it's a shame many people fall for them because of the pretty environments and shiny lights.
As for this, it's beyond my comprehension how a single company could create so many masterpieces, each being completely different from the other. Populous, Dungeon K, SW, GeneWars, Theme Hospital...wow.
I wish I could travel back in time just to see Bullfrog living again.

This game was THE SHIT back in highschool. I couldn't get enough.
Now, Swedish dev team Starbreeze is working on a sequel/remake, which means it's gonna be an FPS for sure.
I'm not hyped about Syndicate turning into an FPS... but since they made Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness, both good games, there's still hope...

@badpeq Even if Starbreeze 'do' turn it into an FPS, Fallout 3 is a prime example of how reimagining a game does not always screw it up. Sure, there was a lot of Controversy over bethesda making 'Oblivion in the future with guns', but the game itself was both amazing and a massive success.
Personally, I think that the idea behind Syndicate could work very well with an FPS. But also, simply because Starbreeze are well known for their FPS games, doesn't mean that's necessarily all they can do :)

@Grigeral I hope they get creative with the corporate management between missions. That's the essencial part that can really immerse the player in this dystopian world: you're not just fighting in it, you're shaping it.
Syndicate will be compared to Eidos' Deus Ex 3, a cyborg FPS with RPG elements.
Syndicate needs to stand on its own as a strategy FPS, with emphasis on squad-based tactics. And I think Starbreeze has a really tough job on their hands.

@badpeq exactly. Syndicate is an tactiacal top-down-perspective Squad-Shooter. A good example for transforming a Videogame into new Perspectives successfully ist GTA 1 vs GTA 3 or 4. Hope they stick to the idea and specific style of Syndicate more than to the perspective.

@Grigeral yea, i think that's the point. I'm pretty sure it's possible to recreate Syndicate in a modern shape. And Starbreeze Studios has a good reputation for making solid and innovative (not too simple) games. I hope for news coming up soon.

I would think that the Syndicate world would make for a great RPG.
I never did play Syndicate Wars, because I didn't like the demo for it. Perhaps I should have given the game a chance, I don't know.

Hell yeah, except, I can't remember which gun that is :P I haven't played this game in years. Last time I installed it on a newer computer and it ran WAY too fast, so I couldn't really play it properly. I remember when I played the first one, I used to gather like 30 people with the persuadertron gun, fit them all into a car, get out, and then torch the car with a laser; and if I got lucky, they would all pile out of the car on fire screaming and running around to an agonizing death. muahahaha!!

EA isn't necessarily bad. keyword being necessarily. syndicate wars was made after EA had acquired bullfrog and it rocked.
EA owned Origin when they made System Shock, Privateer, Bioforge and most importantly UO,
The problem arises when EA either holds the IP in limbo due to greed or mangles the IP like what happened with UO. but molyneux is rich enough to buy back syndicate...
