i hear the output transistor on these radios are suppose to be very expensive about £70 and prone to falure? .it's little wonder then that other manufactorers are using mosfets in their radios, granted they're not very good but they're cheap and abundant so if they blow there's no hassle in replacing them.
@24nov67 Yes they are expensive and I think they have an issue with the BIAS curcuit. A shame as not a bad radio other whys.........even if £100 too expensive
Thanks for the link Dave. The recieve on that radio is excellent. It is that clear your mate sounded like he could have done with some Tunes to help clear his nose and throat. The ASC control is a good feature on the Jacko 2 as well. Might have to send mine to Germany. What am i like, i am going to be skint very soon.
@m0ogy Shame about the outputs failing. I use the Zetagi C57 frequency counter on mine but that only works on TX only. A bit of a problem finding the zeros when dxing.
@gholdq Yes the Zetagi is only an RF sencing device ........for the cost of the radio, it would of been easy to put a output plug like on a modern 3900 and make a small branded counter as an option.......their bigest mistake I recon.
Yes I heard the same about the bias Network...but many of these radios have blown outputs via Static build up on antennas like the A99.This very radio in a Thunder Storm did just that.Maybe just "Talk",but nearly all that have blown have been on fibreglass antennasWhatever the reason, the PA stage is a big problem
Thanks Mike a few of us "Hams" enjoy the CB Bands........I started in 1978 on AM (23ch Midland) ,it was my Dads radio as I was only 10 yrs old!!!.I own many old CB/11 Meters radios now as I have a large collection of them.........We keep the Bands alive here in North Lincolnshire UK for sure my Friend........73's and enjoy the Skip!!! @gholdq Yes this radio worked so well with the Hans mods, it had an Intek echo board fitted too.
Paul bought it, but had the finals go after a bad storm, this is the only real problem I have heard of.
The other thing I feel it should of had was a counter output or even a built in counter.........73 Dave
