I like Gloria Estefan, but I like Selena's version so much better. At the same time, it's so hard to live up to someone like Selena. I think it's nice that GE paid her respects by participating in this concert. I still think the best performance of the night was Alicia Villarreal's interpretation of Si Una Vez.

What ever her style was Selena always claimed she was a TEJANO artist. In her Last Concert rehearsals she told the reporter "Soy Tejana." She was proud of her roots and wanted Tejano music to grow. Besides her only album that was more Cumbia (Half the songs) was Amor Prohibido. Entre a Mi Mundo and Ven Conmigo was more Tejano that Cumbia.

I agree with the comments regarding the comparison. They both are great ladies and fantastic singers. Each on her style the best. Their excellence should not be placed in discussion as one better than the other. Both are great in their own talent. By the way, I am also a late admirer of Selena. The J Lo. film about Selena introduced me to Selena and have been a huge fan and admirer since.

Gloria is an Icon. Selena was good too.. But don't compare the two ladies. Selena didn't get her chance to cross over.... To be honest I never heard of Selena until she died... And ever since that awlful day, I have been a huge fan and I found her alluring/sultry and real. From what I have seen. But Gloria I grew up with and with all do respect do not compare these two ladies.

People say Selena sounds better on this than Gloria but you have to take in to consideration that Selena was 23 when she recorded this and Gloria was 48 when she sang this LIVE so there is a big difference in age. Gloria sang a beautiful and passionate rendition.

A algunos les digo mas respeto para Gloria y su trayectoria. Tristisima la muerte de Selena, quien era excelente cantante, pero recien estaba empezando y solo podia soniar con el exito de Gloria. Es logico, era joven y tenia todo por delante. I like Gloria Estefan, but I like Selena's version so much better. At the same time, it's so hard to live up to someone like Selena. I think it's nice that GE paid her respects by participating in this concert. I still think the best performance of the night was Alicia Villarreal's interpretation of Si Una Vez.

Gloria was paying respect to Selena. This is not a contest of who was best!! You can't compare the 2 because if we do then all would have to admit that Gloria has more accomplishments. Selena was a artist in the making and that was awesome for her and her family. I do believe that she would have been a great artist and was a great artist. But she is no longer here and all we can do now is honor her and respect who she WAS in the little time that she was an artist. I for one loved her music :-)

What ever her style was Selena always claimed she was a TEJANO artist. In her Last Concert rehearsals she told the reporter "Soy Tejana." She was proud of her roots and wanted Tejano music to grow. Besides her only album that was more Cumbia (Half the songs) was Amor Prohibido. Entre a Mi Mundo and Ven Conmigo was more Tejano that Cumbia.

@MARS0l Well you also got to take into account Selena wasn't the song writer it was AB and we all know his fascination with the Cumbia or how he puts it "Kumbia" he's just better at writing kumbias more than Tejano tunes. You're saying she didn't include many tejano songs on her last album but "Dreaming of you" had it been completed would have not had a single Cumbia or Tejano songs, it was going to be all Pop n R&B. but that wasn't going to discredit her from not being Tejano/Latin Artist.

@amorhombre just to add my info: Selena had written songs in her career, AB/Ricky and Pete were the main writers..Selena was to work on 1/2 the disc with big named producers and the other half with her ppl..She was also to write songs of her own (which she was starting to do b4 she passed) and her and AB were working on a new fusion of cumbia-pop all in English, so that Cumbia sound was to be on DOY..also the spanish album was to be out right after the English, thats why no spanish was2 b on DOY

selena conquered latin america and spanish wasnt even her 1st language! that rite there just tells you wut selena would have been capable of in the english market! not to mention, selena was only 23..people seem to 4get that selena was barley gettin started wen she was killed. she had already won a grammy, sold millions of records, and broke concert records at places that even michael j performed at. this is not normal for a 23 year old singer. gloria is not even on selenas level in my opinion..

I respect your opinion, but to say that Gloria is not in Selena's level is just plain wrong. Gloria Estefen has a proven record of GREATNESS. I understand that Selena was just getting started I know that. But Selena sang mostly tejano music which not everyone likes especially gringos.Michael Jackson was the GREATEST ARTIST OF ALL TIME no one can and will deny that. There has never been an artist like Michael and never will be. Gloria took the name of the latina of AMERICA'S HEART A LONG TIME AGO
