Could some one please reply with some help to me. Ive seen two underside light bars that help the reviver aircraft maneuver into position. My problem is I don't know what these lighting bars mean, Could some one please tell me what the Right and Left ones mean?
In/Out, Up/Down PDI (Pilot Director Indicators) Used by the boom operator to direct the receiver into position. Once in contact they respond to the receiver position. If you go low they "up" light flashes. Too far in, the "back" light comes on. There is no Left/Right lights, that's done by the pilot's visual of the tanker.
I was a KC10 pilot for 14 years and a few thousand hours in it.
I was a crew chief on Barksdale AFB 81-85. Mostly on tail numbers 0075 and 0713. I was on 0075 right out of the factory. I'm 49 now and it is still the best job I ever had. I would have stayed in if I'd known how good I had it.
I think this is awesome that you guys get some kind of rewards for the hard work that you put in keeping them flying!! I wish we could!! C-17/C-5 Crew Chief
from an 8 yr crew dawg (7 of those at mcguire) vids like this bring back lots of great memories. whether you are maintenance or FC.....keep up the great work!!
Yes...thats what the yellow line is for. The pilot director lights provide forward/aft and up/down guidance. There are no lights for lateral reference.
We apparently both have the same luck, on a Civil Air Patrol military orientation flight, we flew from McGuire in a KC-10, and due to winning a drill competition, I sat in the cockpit during takeoff. I have the video of an F-16 refueling on here, also. I'm guessing this is at McGuire, too?

Worked fuel cell repair on the 10's. Compared to the F-15's the 10 was a dream. The vid does bring back memories. Thanx.

is that yellow line across the belly the only thing the pilots use to line up with the boom
64Aggressor 3 years ago
No you also have the pilot director lights that are on the belly as well.
