  • Anyone know what chant this is? I would love to know thanks.

  • What was the time? At evening, midday or morning? It is so hard to guess.

  • God bless you, Muslim

  • This is one of my favourite places in Florence. I've been to Vespers at San Miniato several times now - it really is a wonderful experience.

  • please remember god is the center its not about tradition

  • makes u really still and reflect!

  • The Gregorian Chant is the most beautiful form of prayer. For Mass it should nevew be changed. This is the tradition of Catholicism and it will always remaind me of St Gregory the Great

  • Wonderful!

by the way, it's no mass but some office of the day ;) like vespers ;)

  • Wow your video is so much better than mine haha I just came back from Italy in May, and we were able to hear the chat as well. It really was so beautiful and calming. Hope you had a good time!

  • It is so refreshing to hear the Chant....and done well!

  • LOVE the monks!!

  • Amazing...

  • i am italian these are the Hours from the Divine Office, psalmoding the psalms...

  • Spine Chilling...

  • Oh, I envy you big time lol. I wish I could've been there. I pray that I may visit this church, or another one that ancient, someday. To hear the monks singing live must be quite an experience. The nearest thing to Heaven itself. Wish it was longer footage, but even this is enough to stir the spirit. Again, good job! God bless!

  • Gregorian Chant is my passion. I love to sing it. This video has inspired me to sing it more. Thank you for posting such a beautiful and sacred video on this subject. God bless you.

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it!

  • I wish I could have been there.

  • I have never heard monks sing it live. but You should see what the childrens choir of Indy can do they have over 1000 members and are the worlds largest kids choir. with 200 kids they can sing better then most adults and have voices to match singing christmas carols in latin and german. not exactly chant but still the same langage and style of music. Well actualy they did the kyrie elieson as part of the program so yea they do chant too. that was 2003

  • no probs... u are right with it being part of history and art. belongs so much to the history of, and what forms the basis of western civilization, but i guess no matter ones beliefs, it is also a living form of expression that is still used daily in many communities of monks, nuns and buy secular priests. i think in west we forget the antiquity and practice of daily rituals that have survived. sometimes it is good to be reminded that our heritage is there too and being preserved in many ways.

  • I agree. It was a wonderful experience for me to go to Italy this summer as I am 1/4 Italian (the rest of me is all european as well). It was a humbling experience to see with my own eyes where I come from. It is so easy for us to get wrapped up in the trivial things over here that we forget the simplicity (and complexity) of our culturally rich roots.

  • The monks were chanting one of the Hours from the Divine Office, not Mass. They are collections of psalms and prayers said through the day and night... unchanged in form for over a thousand years.

  • Thanks for the clarification

  • It's so relaxing!

  • Im an athiest but love this sorta chanting

  • I think this is considered a part of history and art, so I don't see anything wrong with you enjoying this.

  • yeah im also not spiritual but these chants are soo cool

  • Me too, and I know exactly what you mean. The only bad thing about Gregorian Chant is that no secular musicians have made non-relgious chants. That would be very nice, but all the same, It is beautiful music.

  • actually, that would go against what gregorian chant is... first and formost its a prayer. and in latin.

  • The same thing happened to me in the cathedral in Strasbourg, France. It was the most incredible experience ever. I will never forget it.

  • 5 stars, great atmosphre.

  • That isn't what we call awesome music! That is what we call heavenly and saintly music

  • WOW it sounds so awesome!
