I wish that the audience that's watching the current Anderson Cooper 360 special on Scientology would also look at this video for context. The cult's paranoia is the same back in 1998 as it is today. I wish that the audience that's watching the current Anderson Cooper 360 special on Scientology would also look at this video for context. The cult's paranoia is the same back in 1998 as it is today. Of special note is the presence of Mike Rinder (former spokesman for Scientology) who defended the "church" but is now speaking out against it (namely, its leader David Miscavige). He accused the cult critics as liars and now he has become one!

John defending and promoting scientology and standing just off camera is Tommy Davis the "church's" spokesperson! I can see why people would be cynical of religion because it can lead to dumbing down of society.
However, there are small differences between religions and cults. As a Christian, I believe it's important to bring other people to Christ. Scientologists preach that you should cut off people who don't agree with your religious choices.
Religion is about inclusion; cults are about exclusion.
Deriding psychologists or medical doctors as evil and dangerous is spiritual quakery.
