I was torn between the same two guitars and I got the Herman Li. It has coil tapping which I really enjoy! The Vai is great too but I think that the Herman is a bit fatter of a sound cause it's mahogany.

the tremolo in the jem is better though, thats why i cant decide :/ , the egen has the newest tremolo, but it uses knife edge, and the jem u can put the string WITH the ball-end of your strings, and in the egen you have to cut them (nobody wants their balls to be cut,right) lol

but in the jem you can upbend with the tremolo super duper, and the egen has it a little like , u cant flutter with it, like the jem is more flexible :)
