Bruce, I do not know if I should put like or not? but I bet you had fun till it came down!? I think you should have stock in the AXN I know you have sold a lot of them, just from your videos! you should call and tell them to start paying for your advertisement as well as your endorsement. may be ask them to put better parts in them so this will not happen. or not? lol Have a Great Day!
Bernie at Cox Engines dot CA will sell you a throttle and a glow head adapter that lets you use standard glow plugs as well. Dirt cheap. Shipping to NZ may be a problem, but the parts are pretty cheap, and it'd let you continue to fly the AXN mostly as you do now.
The missing magnet also mean unbalanced Motor housing which also means more amps which also means more heat which will also mean a dead motor.. :)
BTW Xjet... what do you think of those orange servos? any good.. hows their centering and how do they compare to the other bunch of cheapos the HXT900s ? ? ?
@pavcon I'm quite happy with the 10g orange servos -- I actually use them in preference to the HXT900s which I used to use. The HXT900 seems to have had a few changes over the years and I think they're perhaps not quite as good as they once were.
@xjet Thank you for The answer. REaklly appreciate. Yes I actually experienced some problems in the last batch.
I experienced some jittering when the servo was full travel on 1 side. Haven't checked if it's always on the left or right on all of them. that's on full travel though. in the mids they perform as they used to...
thanks for the Answer once again. I will try the oranges next time :)
After some 38 flights the magnets on my AXN became very loose. I thought that epoxy may be just too heavy and upset the balance of the motor. So I have used CA to glue all the magents in place on. So far so good with all the magnets staying where they are supposed to be. Time will tell if this is a good solution or not.
Just out of interest Bruce, what is the correct replacement motor from HobbyKing? I have a spare axn, but it would probably pay to get in a spare motor too, and I have an order to make to HobbyKing today for another model I'm assembling.
@SidSideslip Just search for "(axn-2208-2150)" on the HK website and that should pull up the genuine factory replacement motor. I see that the list price is about $8.50 -- which is a reasonable price for such a little power-house.
Bad luck Bruce. Lots of guys have this problem and put a bit of epoxy round the magnets, spread evenly so as not to upset the balance too much. Mine are still OK so far after precisely 100 flights. Though number 99 today was nearly its last. The wind was threatening to blow my cap off and I poked myself in the eye trying to catch it and knocked my glasses off. I had to land in a near gale without being able to see properly. It was a flying blob, I tells ya! lol
good to know ... just about to buy one cos i miss my hawk sky so much ... also gonna get a mate one as his first plane. Have you ever tried flaperons on it?
@redline022 I haven't tried flaperons and I don't know that it would be such a good idea because the ailerons are already relatively "slow" on this model (due to the dihedral). Putting flaperons on would result in significant adverse-yaw with aileron inputs which would mean they'd probably work backwards (ie: left aileron might even make the plane turn right!). If you do use them, be sure and mix some rudder with your ailerons to counter the yaw.
@xjet hmm ok ... was only thinking of it to slow it right down for hand catches etc ... oh well i will give it a try sometime .... i set it up on my old hawk sky when i got my 9x but wrote the airframe off before i could try it.
@xjet I have both flaperons and spoilerons on mine.. with flaperons it looses quite some aileron authority but its totally controlable using rudder too.. (even easier using combi-switch mix) ..it still turns nice..only quite slower and clamsy..but flaps are only meant for slow down for landings anyway
@sparrowlt Thanks for the input -- I figured you'd loose some authority but the rudder is very powerful on the AXN so some mixing will overcome that. I find my AXN can be landed very slowly anyway so don't need to use flaperons and, since it can be dived vertically from any height without fear of bits flying off -- I don't bother with spoilerons either :-) One of the great things about these models however, is that you can set them up to fly the way *you* want them to - which is wonderful.
@xjet. Lost the magic smoke, eh ? My Tower Of Power did that to me last night. Two PV's that had blown 6 Amp Diodes, were replaced with what I thought were 10 A. ones. Lightnin Bolt last night, & the DC pulse from the PV, Vs the induced Current from the EMP blew the new Diodes, which turned out to be only 1 F...ing Amp ! Grrr.
Just replace it right out of the box. I have fallen in love with the FC28-12 motors on 4s. I use one on my Hawksky which is basically the same plane and it screams with a 7x6! Thanks again, Bruce for showing us the tribulation along with the triumph! Good stuff like this makes me feel like I'm flying right along with you guys!

Seal the tail feathers and pop a Cox 049 on the back. You won't have that problem anymore.

@TestECull Don't worry, that idea has crossed my mind!

@TestECull I've got an engine that Bernie sent me so I'm thinking that the 0.49-powered AXN will be placed on my list of "to-do" projects real soon.
xjet 3 months ago
@xjet Oooh, sweet. I can't wait to see it fly!
I wish I could pop by the SWMAC but it'd involve flying over ten thousand miles on a full scale.

@xjet Oh, and if you wouldn't mind giving your opinion on something, gimme a PM.

@xjet Thanks Bruce. It's always nice to have something useful to make up the weight of an order. :-)

@redline022 The AXN can be flown quite slowly but (paradoxically) it does require that you have some power on to do so.

@xjet well hopfullly in a week or 2 i will have joined the 9x + axn brigade and will report back if works ... lol
