  • can I listen to the book as well as reading one on my kindle

  • Please can you show me how to buy books please?

  • Thanks for this video. Have you ever tried to download texts from Internet Archive and read them on your kindle? Thanks!

  • The audio on this video was recorded with a potato.

  • astore.amazon.com/shopbarbie04-20/detail/B004HZYA6E

  • Kindle 3 BLOWS for pdfs at least for technical ones

  • @djruinerdotcom so it is good?

  • Can you select and go to a specific page on a book?

  • I just ordered my kindle, do you have a video showing how that you convert a pdf to the kindle format through amazon?

  • @BeccaBasilisk yea this! lol Im thinking of buying one and im searching for a video showing how this @free.kindle. com stuff works, please please please provide us two with an answer.

  • Thanks for the advice! To read PDFs it is much easier, when you convert. Agreed! THX!

  • Hey I notice that you have a file about Final Fantasy and Philosophy. That's quite nice. I have quick question: How the pdf reading is going? Since you made this video a long time ago I would like to know if you are having good or bad time reading pdf on the Kindle 3. I'm intending to buy one eReader to read pdf math books on it, and I'm trying to figure out which one is the best. Thanks.

  • @Erinath, What is the screen size of the kindle on the video? Can you make notes on the pdf (e.g. add bookmarks, hightlight text)? Is the change to pdf in kindle compatible to pc acrobat pdf reader?

  • Mobipocket was bought by Amazon in 2005

    Go on youtube and watch

    Tutorial MobiPocket Reader (2003)

than compare to your Kindle 2011

and see what Amazon has done for you in past 6 years.

    It is INCREDIBLE

  • Thanks for such a great video. I searched forums and reviews for ages trying to find answers to viewing pdfs and you managed to sum it up perfectly in a quick vid :-) thanks.

  • Hey people good collection of kindle books i found just visit :

    warezsokol ( dot )com /search / label / kindle

  • Kindle sucks. Nook Rules.

  • @emkcus1 And....why would that be? Surely you must have some valid arguments.

  • @emkcus1 Why in the HELL would I pay for a book on Amazon that costs 4.99 when the same book is available for .99 on BN? Amazon, and the Kindle, sucks. Check it out yourself. Type in anything, on both sites; download the apps for it on your PC. You will find, after a while, what costs what. Amazon sucks, no doubt about it.

  • @emkcus1 I have both apps. Kindle offers more and better free books, the whole thing. It is cheaper and supports Project Gutenburg.

  • @emkcus1 because BN only sells to a tiny part of the world (USA) while kindle is international

  • Communist Manifest? Oh Shit!

  • How about scans of book pages in PDF? In school we work from scanned chapters (like an image of two pages at once) . Im thinking about the kindle to cut down on printing as computer screen reading tires my eyes. I'm worried about an open book copy not being able to fit the size of the kindle though...thoughts? id like to see the bulk of the page without a lot of navigation. Don't really have the funds for dx. Could the y concert a scan of a book? And what about footnotes?

  • :DDDDDDDDDD I love agatha christie!

  • guys; i'm considering the kindle over the dx for reading pdfs... I was thinking that since the kindl3 lacks the size when holding normally; why not view the pdfs on landscape view (sacrificing some vertical space) in order to not zoom as much.

But I don't know how this will effect my hands in the long run (reading in landscape view). Has anyone tried this and have any comments if it wont strain the hand/s.

  • Touch screen needed for 21st century

  • @charlie123abc360 it eat up battery life, dork

  • @shiningyrlife an acceptable trade off. For now a book still beats this by a mile, "dork".

  • @charlie123abc360 u mean nook?

  • @shiningyrlife I don't know what a nook is but i meant what i typed

  • what if pdf has image? how will amazon converter deal with that?

  • Why are you saying it is "very easy to read" when only half of each line is displayed? Reading PDFs without conversion seems difficult.

  • Doe's anyone know any way to go to specific pdf's page. It's kinda frustrating then you have 500 pages and the thing you want to read is say on page 434. Any ideas?

  • wow you have a very relaxing voice

  • i enjoy the kindle very much. but the pdf version sucks for the kindle

  • if you want read pdf files such as ebooks without conversion to pub or mobi, highly recommend kindle dx

  • Excelent, that's just what I was looking for. It was really really useful, thanks :-)

  • sarah.....your fingernails are very dirty, I'll bet your clothes are soiled and you're an unkept chav

  • Great! You can read perfectly a JSTOR scanned paper such as Bouwsma's Mistery of Time. Bouwsma is not my cup of tea, but by the way I'll can read philosophy without tons of paperbacks and sheets. I'll buy it. Thanks for the review.

  • Please try to hold it more steadily ... got headache watching this video. Thanks for review, though.

  • Hello and thank you for posting the videos! Can you tell me (or someone) if the kindle has a search mode for words like in adobe acrobat reader? And, for example, if I have a pdf with 1000 pages, can the kindle go directly from page 1 to page..900..or someting?.. thanks!

  • Does it cost money to send the email to the kindle?

Or do they convert it to kindle format for free??

  • So amazon will convert any PDF to kindle format? thats amazing!

  • @mjmanoni You could also do that yourself with a program called Calibre. I've donde that with many books and the results are very very good. :)

  • Great video. upto the point !

  • You can convert pdf files into mobi by using Mobipocket Reader or calibre.

  • There is a software called "Mobipocket Creator", which converts any text to azw.

  • 2 questions:

    1) Can you organise PDFs into folders? - say into subjects for school?

    2) Can you create files from scratch, so for example take notes in a lecture?

  • hey erinath how did you change the pdf format to the actual kindle format?

  • I've been searching around trying to find what a PDF looks like when converted to the Kindle format - looks fine to me. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this vid.

  • @Erinath

    @ponytailguy

I'm back with a solution for email.

You can have email with the kindle by using the Mobile version of the mail site.

    ex:

    m(dot)gmail(dot)com

m(dot)yahoo(dot)com (from there choose Mail at the upper right)

    or

    m(dot)yahoo(dot)com/mail

    Hope this helps :)

  • just want to say that another way of reading your simple PDF's is to convert them to TXT on your Adobe Reader, Save as TXT and drag and drop on your Kindle. This is not a solution for files with pictures and graphs though. Only good if you have novels in PFD format. I made a bad video on how to do it. Works wonderful for those files with TXTS that are way too small to read.

  • How did you get amazon to convert it to kindle formt? when i send to myname@kindle.com they just send me the actual pdf file.

  • Nice video. And I'm pleasantly surprised at your choice of reading material. I can count on one hand how many people I know that read about the philosophy of time, and that includes professors!

  • @fatbastard74 It is a foundamental branch of contemporary metaphysics. Unfortunately all metaphysicians in the world are part of "Counted on One Hand People" Society :)

  • thanks

  • Can you please try a PDF file thats has tables and images and let us know how it works wtih those ? I'd like to be sure about the support for them before i order mine ..

  • Will text to speech work for PDF on Kindle 3? Can you show how big the font % can go on the PDF as well?

I have low vision so if I was to use this feature on my Kindle 3 the magnification or text to speech would be a big plus.

    Thanks

  • @sdhummer Thanks for the suggestion - I'll try to do another video tomorrow demonstrating the larger font sizes and voice guide (spoken menus & descriptions)

  • @sdhummer you just have to send your PDFs documents to your free email @kindle.com with subject line "convert" (without quotes) for it to be converted to kindle format, and then the text-to-speech function is available.

  • @sdhummer look up MOMMABOY on Amazon.com

  • Thanks for the review. PDF display looks very readable. Can't wait for my kindle to arrive now.

  • Could you try to convert a PDF to .MOBI and show us how it looks like? Comparing both files? Thnks!

  • I'm almost convinced. I'm still a bit weary of having no PDF reflow, but for the price point, Im sure I'll manage.

  • nice!

  • Thanks for showing how PDF look

  • looks good - have you tried any 2-column PDFs, either using their conversion process or by just zooming in?

    Cheers!

  • woo british accent.

  • I loaded gmail and aim mail no problem on my Kindle 3g/wifi...

  • Thanks again for the video

  • Ker-CLICK. Ker-CLICK. Ker-CLICK. My, that's loud. :(

  • @ponytailguy I've just watched the video back & it does make the buttons being pressed sound a lot louder than they actually do. To double check I was even pressing the buttons at the same time & I promise it is much quieter than that video makes it seem.

  • @Erinath Send your Kindle back to them and get a refund. Buy a Nook from Barnes and Noble.

  • @ponytailguy just as Erinath said, they are very quiet.

  • @ponytailguy She has the Kindle resting inside the box it came in. Therefore, the box amplified any sound/vibration that it was in contact with...

  • Thanks for another great video. This is just making me want mine even more now....

Did you get a cover/sleeve for yours as well ?

  • @steftymo I didn't get a cover or sleeve as they didn't have any I liked the look of. I'm sort of wishing now I had though, as am concerned about the kids getting their hands on it.

  • this is awesome I cant wait for my 3G one. Could you possibly give gmail a go? I know, annoying, but it would put my mind at ease a little :)

  • @akabenoit3 I've tried 3 times to get gmail to work & every time I get the same message: "Web Browser is unable to display this page."

Strange thing is, other peole have reported gmail works with their K2, so not sure what's going on.

  • @Erinath aaaaaaaah that's annoying! Any other emails work? that was one of the main reasons i got the 3g one rather than the wifi!

  • @akabenoit3 I tried Yahoo mail as well, the first time round it locked my Kindle up really badly. Second time round it wouldn't let me enter Yahoo mail as the Web Browser is unable to establish a secure connection.

  • @Erinath I'll try to find a way for you two to have emails, I'll get back to you as soon as I find.

  • thanks for the upload! especially the pdf function. I would echo the other comments, and would enjoy seeing the web-browser in action. thanks!

  • thanks for the upload! especially the pdf function. I would echo the other comments, and would enjoy seeing the web-browser in action. thanks!

  • The 2nd PDF I show, which has been converted, I forgot to say it only took 2 minutes from me e-mailing it to Amazon for it to appear on my Kindle.

  • This is great, thanks for showing PDF viewing. Still waiting for my kindle to arrive, would love to see a video of the web browser! thanks!

  • Thanks for the video, PDF was one function that I was interested in. Please can you demonstrate the Experimental Browsing and your opinion on it. Thank You

  • @ricqu1 It's uploading right now for you, but will apparently take roughly half an hour.

  • Thanks for the Kindle videos.

  • Thank you for this, this is one of the biggest things I wanted out of an e-reader, apart from books of course, and if I wasn't decided about getting one before, I am now.

  • Sorry about the sound quality at the start
