Crisis narrows China-UK gap

China's GDP/capita went negative during the 1800's because China was invaded by Europeans and Japan. Even their Imperial Palace was looted. France recently sold a Chinese sculpture (looted from China) at Christie's auction. This cause an uproar in the Chinese community around the world. The Japanese and UK looted the most and now they're talking human rights. What a joke.

Foreign invasions were bad, but I believe the main reason was because of civil unrest and the collapse of the Qing Dynasty. Corruption and internal problems were already prevalent near the end of Qianlong's reign which led to the White Lotus Rebellion (1796, 50 years before Opium Wars), which killed 16 mil. Foreign invasions helped push China over the edge but it was already starting to waver. Civil war such as Taiping and the Warlord Era killed far more than the foreigners ever did.

@KhmerD0g I can remember that many times in history strong political entities have formed in China and India, things we use to call empires which where rich and prosperous...do you think they came up there just by selling candies to their neighbours? Every story of power is a story of violence and robberies, for power is lust for injustice...that's human nature, don't you use childish arguments when talking about reality
