@tapper45 none of us were PVTs at the time. Also, if you listen closely you'll hear the VC not only report that we were all up, but also give a SITREP. It may be hard to hear over the engine, but being in the vehicle at the time, I can assure you he did. Secondly, our 1SGT did see it right after and we remained the 3rd vehicle in line. But hey, I'm sure you know best, especially when it comes to instant criticism instead of simply asking.

i don't know what the current scam is at recruiting but you used to be able to come in as an e2 if yougot a buddy to enlist with you, or e3 if you got 2 buddies to come in with you.
if you have a degree you can definitely come in as ane3-e4 but you're sending 2-4 years and some $ to accomplish that.
if you come in as an e1 you'll make e2 in 6 months, e3 at 12 months and e4 at 18-24 months.
this is assuming you stay out of trouble and there aren't any dickheads in you chain.
definitely go inf at least for your 1st enlistment.
you can change later if you want.
if you have a high gt score you might feel stifled in combat arms but the experience will really put the rest of your later army experiences in perspective.
promotion points up to e5 are easy to get from pt/wpn qual/awards/mil educ etc.
you can still go to college and all the other shit while you're in.
it will really help you get promoted once you're looking at e6-e7-e8.
my 1st ied was in 1989 travelling north from aqua azul sierra towards san pedro sula in honduras pulling security for my friends who were on an mwr trip.

@pgcracker82 Good I'm glad. I'm sorry this happened to you. My husband called me one day and said, "Guess what honey?! I just got blown up!!" He drove over a buried IED in Afghanistan and had a moderate TBI. His emotions were all fucked up. He's now permanently disabled/service connected for it.
