Err i think you will find that all of the maoris are related to one another in some form. That and they have played together in the same team, or the same league, or the same nation.
The Lions are XV strangers.... different clubs, different leagues, different nations. Thrown together for 2 weeks and then expected to play a test in the backyard of a national team thats been together for years.

Teams in Super 14 ALL play each other. Heinekin Cup dont, they play 3 other teams, thats it (and 2 of those 3 are French and Italian). So.. 1 British isles club team meets 1 other British isles club team once in a Year. 1 British isles nation meets 1 British isles nation once in a Year
Hence players are strangers..with their (quote) "getting to know each other on tour" (2 weeks "prep")

The Maori r a team of up & coming players, or old stalwarts within the Maori players, they r not the cream, as they all go to the AB's. They had less game time than the "elite" players in the lions in 05, but still won.

Is there anything to be said for the suspicious activity in the 76th min of the 1st test in the B&I lions series? The lions were looking very menacing and it wouldn't have been the biggest shock if they had have scored that last try and won the match. The influential captain John Smit was substituted off the pitch in the 69th minute as springbok coach De Velliers thought the match had been wrapped up and wanted to save the energy and endeavors of his captain for the 2nd text the following week.

The injuries were bad luck in the 2nd test, and im convinced we d have won without losing 4 key players within 10mins, but fair play to SA for finishing the few chances they created well. For that they deserved to win. Better team thou...... am not sure. the Lions definately played the better rugby overall during the 2 games.

The difference between the lions and SA is that when the lions have an injury they struggle to find a replacement that is good enough, when SA has an injury we can replace the player with someone that is as good or even better, due to our large pool of talented players .
