  • I just realized. Saavedro isn't trapped at all on the porch, with both shields up. He could just walk down stairs and link to Tomahna.

  • @eedobaba7726 I have the book in my pocket, so that wouldn't be possible here.

But yes, had I not picked it up, there would be nothing stopping him from doing just what you said. However, the designers did not recognize this or at least did not acknowledge it, as there is no consequence for leaving it behind.

I imagine the extra ending would go like this. First Saavedro leaves for Tomahna, then you link behind, then he hammers you as you enter the study. Would be the worst possible ending.

  • Thankyou so much for doing this lets play , a really great one too

  • I hope you do Riven. I love that one!

  • Um....you could sound a bit more convincing when you talk about Saveedro being the victim and suffering enough betrayal. As it is, you sound like you're reading from a pre-prepared script.

  • 9:20 - You cheeky Ba{CENSORED]... XD

  • But what about the ending where instead of waiting at the stairs for Sev to run up, you quickly link out WITH Releeshan

  • Too bad you can't re-enable the shield while he's in the gondola and have it slice the thing in two >:)

  • Narayani pink and green, pink and green...

  • 18:22 Bless you, shady.

  • Shady, if you do Riven, I'm getting a front row seat!

  • also, i like how complex they made the whole saavedro encounter, they covered every possibility it seems although i didn't expect he would FLIP OUT like he did and go all nuts with the book, i wonder how many people figured that one out on the first try?

  • catherine: "you must tell us everything!"

yeah! like, how many times you had to get whacked over the head to save that book

  • Dude, you gotta do Riven. It's easily my favorite in the series and I've already watched Dilandau3000's Let's Play and I'd love to see your take on it.

  • when the book was saved did atrus said thank the maker?

dude you are the fucking maker

  • Hm.. Apparently I never finished with the good ending... oh well.

  • I actually didn't see most of this LP because I was playing the game myself. I only decided to watch this after I got stuck in Narayan. Thanks for showing me how to solve the puzzles. And what a spectacular job you did explaining everything.

I'm just sad we never found out what happened to Narayan. Sure, Saveedro got to leave, but did he and his people ever revive the Tree? Were any of his people even alive? Was his family?

I'm hoping some answers are provided in IV and V.

  • LOL I like that one of the name's on your saves is Roger Wilco. LONG LIVE SPACE QUEST! :)

  • Absolutely brilliant! I would never have thought of any logical explanation to complete any puzzle (except for Edenna which was playing with plants). I had to rely on the walkthroughs/answers to get me through lol. Now I regret it and want to play the game again. However, I would already know the answers because of this walkthrough but now I understand the full story as to why Saavedro was crazy and wanted revenge. THANK YOU SO MUCH SHADYP :D

  • Everytime you fail, I hear the squee sound lol

  • whoa when he talked after he got the first ending while that music played it was epic speaking!!!:O whats the name of that music?

  • I agree with victorianrobot. I've watched several Let's Plays and how shadyparadox ended this LP, esp the part where he rationalizes why we should allow Saveedro to return home, was amazing!

  • Well Done! Well Done my friend!

  • Respond to this video... very good lp

i like the other guys LP of RIVEN

and even tho i kinda want to hear HIS THOUGHTS this was thrilling

  • Must have brought a backpack with him this time.

  • well for the most part it was *cough*catherine*cough*

  • Great longplay! Kudos on the work!

  • Oh yeah! That guy who plays Saavedro *is* Wormtongue! Haha... knew I'd seen him around before...

  • I love how you do a Let's Play. You show all the possible options, and you do not use foul language (a habit I'm trying to quit myself). I appreciate how smart and how nice you seem to be as you narrate.

  • No matter how many times I watch this, it never gets old.

  • Now we got a guilt trip ending.

  • *opens shield*

    Saavedro: *thank you with hands*

    *closes shield*

    Saavedro: *bumps head* NOOO

  • It's been fun Shady, thanks for doing this fun, informative LP of a series I so enjoy. If you do ever return to the series, you can bet I'll be joining you. Until then (or your next videos), I hope your time is enjoyable.

  • This was a great LP. I never had a chance to play Exile, and it was great to watch this. I look forward to your next project.

One thing to comment on about Exile's endings: in the "good/bad" ending with Atrus, what's stopping him from going to Narayan himself? He has the book to J'nanin, which has the book to Narayan, which has the book back to Tomahna. There is absolutely nothing stopping him from setting go back and setting Saavedro free himself. The writers seemed to have missed that. >_>

  • @rickyofkokiri - As Atrus said at the end, the fire burned the linking book, so he could not follow us. And would you want to leave your wife with the house on fire to get the book back?

  • @MrCho233 In Atrus' journal, he talks about going to J'nanin. That visit is, presumably, how Saavedro got the Tomahna book. I would assume, then, that Atrus still has his own copy of the J'nanin book, but the one Saavedro used was burned beyond recognition. And no, he absolutely should not leave his wife in the house on fire, but I'm referring to the ending itself- after the Stranger has told Atrus what happened, what's stopping him from using his own J'nanin linking book to set Saavedro free?

  • @MrCho233 Hmm... I wonder where the baby has gone. Probably she was taken to another part of house or something.

  • thanks for your hard work on this series man. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

  • Dude nice work, really liked it. Did you do it all in 1 sitting.

  • Amazing. Truly amazing. A thousand thanks for all your work in making this LP. I can't praise this enough.

  • do easter eggs, i know there are a bunch

  • Very good commentary work. I liked all your videos and your relationship with seveedro.

  • Unbelievable work. Sometime down the road I'm definitely gonna rewatch these videos. Just one a week sort of takes away from the overall experience. And I don't mean that as a suggestion to put out videos more often - I'm all for quality over quantity!! Better to do a rewatch anyway - Exile's a much deeper game than some Myst fans give credit.

  • If you did another Myst game, IV would be neat, and that would mean that you would have done all the Myst games that involved Sirrus & Achenar

  • @numberfourtytwo Shady and Dilandau3000 (Great LPer, you should definitely watch him, he's probably my favorite) are splitting the Myst series; Shady does III and realMYST, while Dilandau (Also known as Sven) does IV, V, Riven, and Uru.

  • @SoraOwnsAll8745

That seems a bit less than splitting. I count six games. Shady is doing two and Sven is doing four. It would be more like spitting to me if they both did three each. Although I am not complain, just an observation. I really like both dudes.

  • @TimmyTheNerd I didn't say they were splitting them evenly, just that they're splitting them.

  • This was a great let's play! I look forward to more in the future!

  • Sorry about the double post. Youtube should let us edit posts.

  • If you see the video Saavedro can't count to three, you'll see that if you reverse him saying no, it'll sound like one.

  • That was the best LP I've ever watched. Your commentary was excellent in the way that you were not only hilarious but very informative, and pretty clean to boot. The editing was fantastic as well, and really showed how much work you put into this series. If all LP's had this much effort put into them, a lot more of them would be worth watching.

I'm looking forward to seeing more LP's from you in the future, but it would take a lot to top this.

  • What was the process of figuring out the ending when You first played the game?

  • I approve of this LP, kept me thoroughly enjoyed. Great job and I hope to see more in the future

  • I really wonder if they plan remaking this game,I hope they tell us if Saavedro sees his family or not...

  • Very nice job shady, Im still a Myst 1 junkie though... just like it better. Anywho, Thanks for your hard work!

  • Is it possible to close the shield after Saavedro leaves? If so, does anything happen?

  • DUHH!

  • You did a spectacular job, my friend, you deserve a rest. Though I hope you don't totally discount more LPs in the future, you do have a gift, and I feel you should use that gift for as long as you are willing and able to.

I do have one tiny question though. I'm just wondering what the technology you use in the making of these LPs, they are of almost professional quality complete with sound effects. I hope to learn your secret.

  • A tip of the hat from one LPer to another - fantastic job, my good man! Keep up the amazing work.

  • Another great LP! Thanks a lot Shady! I expected more from the end though. Ya know I thought Atrus would let you join him in Releeshahn after getting it from Saavedro. Ya know and as a bonus age like the Rhine Age....anyway it's good! Lookin forward to the next one!

  • Excellent LP! :D Thank you for sticking with it despite all the troubles you had with and during the making of it. :)

One question though. In the bad ending of you letting Saavedro go and he throws the book down into the clouds, how were you able to go down there and pull the switch? From what I remember of my playing the game, the camera would automatically turn to Saavedro giving me the book when I went down there.

  • Very nicely done, sir. As a fellow LPer, I tip my hat to you for this well-executed series. :-)

  • I told you it'd take you a year :P

  • A Let's Play series well done!

Well, true this series has gone for one full year, but it was still worth following.

I enjoyed playing this game a whole ton when I first played it, and I still like it today.

While watching these videos, I've learned a lot of things I did not know about earlier. Such as in-deep story details and how certain mechanics work, such as the plants and animals in Edanna, or the electricity in Voltaic.

Well, bottom line, you did an awesome job!

    I'll see you next time!

    :-)

  • awesome soundtrack

  • I'd leave Saveedro to die. His overacting in this scene was annoying, especially when the rest of his performance proved he can do far better.

  • I played the game when it first came out. Thank you for the walk down memory lane. You are a true master of your trade.

  • The stranger is too freaking nice. The character's pacifism makes him limited in dealing with this situation.

  • great LP, keep up the good work!

  • ok now it's time for MYST 4. Start already! we are waiting

  • We love your let's plays Shady! I'd hate to see you stop making them.

  • Once again I must say, a brilliant Let's Play for a brilliant game. The way you go about it is like how many really should, with careful observation and thought. You guide your viewers through every action and even every consequence with thoroughness, all while making it fun, and it makes for a wholesome experience, and especially with including the backstory of the world that most of us might overlook. So, kudos!

  • @shadyparadox,

This is a example of a perfect LP, and i love your sense of humor!

    Thanks!!

  • A lovely series, ShadyParadox. Between you and Dilandau, I think this completes the Myst series?

  • Your LPs just keep getting better and better. Keep up the great work!

  • >>9:18

    Renegade +25

*red star symbol appears on lower left*

    *Shepherd clicks left mouse button*

*myst hero shoots Saveedro with a rifle*

  • NONONONONO!

  • @thegameulost Overacting much?

  • 11:40 Yay that classic Shadyparadox humor!

  • you should do a let's play of portal next

  • I also like the the acting and love the music in this game.

  • 15:27 is he greeting you Nazi style??? WTF?!

    Great LP! do some more!

  • Man, its hard to think that this let's play has gone on for almost a year. Still, Its been fun and I've enjoyed every video. Looking forward to whatever you have planned, if anything.

    :D

  • It's been a year since this LP began, but to me it seems like only yesterday. There were many times I counted the days till the next update. Not many LPers have that effect on me! This is the most well-done LP I've ever seen, and I've enjoyed every update immensely. I'm glad I found you back during realMyst - It would have been a shame to miss out on this brilliance. Needless to say the idea of you LPing Riven is an exciting prospect.

Thanks for all the hard work. It's appreciated. :)

  • @victorianrobot Think it's been said that he won't do Riven due to it already have been made by Dilandau3000

  • @zangetsu2k8 Read the description! He's considering the idea of doing Riven. The Dilandau thing is past-tense. :)

  • @victorianrobot alright alright :) I made the comment before reading the description, but if you haven't seen dilandau's LP of riven, you should watch it :)

  • @victorianrobot i agree very much!

  • 8:37 Huh. They forgot to composite a shadow for him in this area. He had one as he was walking towards the fence...

  • Thank for this series. This was my first Myst game and remains my favourite.

  • @skysamfreeman:

If what you said about the college work is true, you ought to prioritize that over this video.

  • @PeterBrainTV It's nothing major. Just a couple online tests. I've got all day really.

  • @PeterBrainTV Something should hold priority over this?! Sacrilege!

  • "Crap, gotta finish this college work before tonight. Ugh, let me just che- OMIGOSH NEW SHADYPARADOX!!!!" Looks like I'm not getting to my work for another half hour. XD!

  • 01:47 I remember how my dad kept telling me to turn down the volume during this part. Sheesh, I can't control Saavedro's actions.
