One interpretation is that it's about a kid watching his/her parents going through a divorce, while trying to maintain the illusion of a solid, happy family.

This is predominately because the skills required for becoming proficient at any skill (not just guitar) require a degree of personal isolation and free time that are not allotted to those chasing after body image, fashion, and hot chicks. Those people are called douche bags, and even if they can play guitar, I can guarantee they play it poorly. It turns out looking the part does not give you the part.
