dude do this to little lord fauntery come to daddy remix says something about "?? is a child molester dont let kids know2 well freaky how u guys not found that yet xD its at the part where the guys saying (not 100%) looking at the swans and heaing the birds singing either taht or the vocals right near it
This is cool, I like how it runs right into the regular version so you can immediately compare it. It does sound good, a little more mellow, in reverse. Thanks for upload.
Definitly not over the original for me...but still good...this was hte first song i listened too when i rolled...and will always be a part of me...i jsut have this bond with the original, that this one sonds kinda weird to me....idk...still good tho
Exactly. Reversing songs like these is an endeavor into uncovering technical aspects of songs, not decrypting satanic messages (Though there are some cleverly hidden vocals in quite a few Boards of Canada songs, but they're mainly references to things they liked when they were younger. :P)
Haha, I might be doing so soon. Decrypting vocals like that can be very tedious--I only did it mildly in the Geogaddi reversal videos I did, and I didn't manage to go as in-depth as I had hoped, either. I plan to do some of these when I have ample time, but for now it's just out of the question. Soon, though ;)
(Really I just wanted to say that last bit because of the similarities in expression of Richard James and Light from Death Note. Excuse my geekiness. And yes, it does sound awesome.)
This is interesting to listen to but there is a reason music is composed with regards to time in a set direction.
I know this is not going to be a popular comment but I think that by listening to it played backwards with as much esteem as forwards you are showing some naivety, not to mention cheapening the efforts of the composer.
Music, like any language, flows forwards.
Good job though poster, I am not criticising the posting, innovative, just the absurdity of regarding it as good.
Yeah, but you have to be willing to look at it inversely--the creative process can really be broken down when we reverse songs like these because so many things are already reversed in this track (Violins for example.) As a musician myself, I am very interested in seeing how things come to sound the way they are. I often play melodies of my songs in reverse with a guitar and add them to the tracks as well, for example.
It's just for analysis/research sake. It just happens to sound nice as well.
It would be stupid to argue over whether I think something sounds good to another person.
Anyway, have you though about perhaps reversing by bars - I.e. choose a multiple of 4 bars and just reverse those sections through the whole piece. Or even better divide the "movements" up and reverse them, that way you might keep some of the "meta-structure" of the while reversing the melodies and drum loops.
I actually did that with a couple of my tracks! I keep the same melodies but I reverse the synths themselves (As in, I record the melodies backwards, render them to a file and then reverse that file I made in the real song.)
That's the thing--having the freedom to play forward and back can still be of great use and still maintains a forward flow, it's just got a very rich, abstract sound to it. I enjoy it. :D
Hmm, I think the ambiance is great in the reversal I am just unsure about the reversal of the drum samples. I.E. Putting the attack at the end of the sound, I just don't think you can create enough rhythmic impact. I could be wrong though.
(Do you know any tracks with only reverse drum sounds as the precussion? Out of interest I am not being facetious trying to avoid work by commenting on youtube :) )
Ahhh, not that many really use reversed drum sounds. I do know the song "Macquarie Ridge" by Boards of Canada (Bonus track on the Japanese version of their newest LP "The Campfire Headphase") uses backwards drums, as well as some older hip-hop that relied on sampling like "Tom Sawyer" by Beastie Boys (Not sure why I recall that, haha.)
Otherwise, I mean, I've used reverse drums in my tracks before, but they're really complex and it isn't directly apparent that they're really "backwards".
Autechre's music takes a bit of an acquired taste to get into. That being said, once you really examine their music, it's really addictive and you wouldn't believe how much complexity their tracks honestly have to them.
But yes, you should! No need to rush it, though. :)
..true.. I remember my first listening to autechre...it was like "get the f out.." :) ...
......don't force yourself to anything....I listen to smthn for 1-2 times and if I'm not into it that moment I move on...but leave space for that later
Yup. I couldn't stand BoC at first but after having a few of their albums lying around for a while (a month or so) I finally forced myself to listen through, and at that point I was hooked.
The same went for Autechre but it took a hell of a lot longer to "appreciate", haha. :)
@DDRpwnerer definitely agree, its real tough to get into autechre, it took me a while, but after listening to iacubula a couple times i liked it alot then got everything else, and boc took a real long time, i thought it was just simple boring music at first but its really pretty deep and amazing
Good question, but it's not originally made like that. I just thought it'd be worth having forward since it goes together pretty well--that and the fact that the length doesn't prevent me from being able to. I'm not able to do that with songs like "On" by Aphex Twin, but ones this short are okay.

When someone is equal brilliant forwards or back, they have passed beyond what most of us can even hope to approach

He reverses some orchestral work for the melody. Other than that, I'm not sure. I haven't listened to Moby for a few years.
