@wert180 A year late, I apologise but I saw the live show yesterday and I think Chris Thatcher is perfect for Nicky and Trekky Monster. He's got good vocals and the actions he does throughout the show made even the eldest audience members laugh.

That's just my opinion thou.

For those saying he sucks - He does not - Take a look at him in Jest End and you'll see that he's actually damn amazing. I think this video does not do him justice at all, for whatever reason

they're not supposed to! the puppeteers are on stage with them in black/grey and they sing and act with the puppets so when the puppets don't have any emotion on their faces, the puppeteers do. it makes the show great.

I think that Nikky's pupeeter main problem was that he had to hold the microphone with Nikky's only free hand, so the puppet's movements were really limited. I don't think it was his fault but anyways...

And Rod's actor is good.

I can see why these two were picked as understudies. Simon Gorton's puppetry is possibly better than Daniel Boys's, but his performance as the character isn't anywhere near as good. I can see why they have to prioritize acting ability over puppetry skills (though in an ideal world they're not mutually exclusive).

They are the understudies, yes.

Thing is, this was awfully put together. The cast were in a tiny amount of space in the corner of a shop so they can't implement any real choreography, they're limited also because they're using wired microphones, and they're on a dodgy karaoke CD when they're used to a live band.

I've seen the understudies all perform at some point or another, and they're fantastic in full show, but the whole Sing London thing was terribly organised, so it wasn't their fault!

i watched the show at a matinee 2 days ago and Princeton/rod was played by this understudie who was fantastic!! The person playing nikki in the show was far better however.

That was really cute. Personally, of course they're not my favorites, but at the same time when I saw both these boys I thought they did just fine, and they work well together when they're actually on stage. I enjoy both their versions of the characters very well. As a puppeteer , I have my own fustrations but hey- look at the Nicky in New York right now- skills with the puppet obviously don't matter in the casting anymore anyway.
