  • Fine cut marmalade for me.

  • tomorrow;s parties will happen after death..

  • all tommorrow's parties are about to begin again and if I get my way they're not going to end until the flames of eternity come to call

  • i love !

  • @kookaburrakookaburra Are you serious? The song IS the piano.

  • So sexy is my Teutonisch Marianne Faithful.

  • Comment removed

  • @kookaburrakookaburra yer a little late judging this song... should critiqued it when it came out. It's already established itself as an iconic piece of rock history, so your considerations will likely be unheeded by many.

  • i can only understand the only kanji character in the top comment, it means "good" so i agree :]

  • take in the japan version quality

  • I agree with the azn peoples, whatever the hell they are saying, it must be good, vote it up!

  • @Silvamedalist it says i love peanut butter

  • FOR ALL TOMORROW'S PARTIES!!

  • las cabezas como cubitos!!! aaaajajeje

  • 私は今サブリミナル、悪魔日本語のメッセージで自分を攻めでしょう!!ペニス!!!!!!!!!

  • Prefer June Tabor & The Oyster Bands cover

  • wtf are asian comment?? Thump up my comment, you using latin alphabet!

  • @everyonesucks12345 Yeah I know, it was a little joke LOL

  • Nico, the original hipster chick.

  • Is this song about Lindsey Lohan?

  • @Hofkicks yes.

  • @Hofkicks This is a 60s band you retard

  • @apocatie34 Guess who is the retard

  • Re the English "clown" versus Nico's Teutonic "Klaun"; I suppose this an instance of what Freud called (gleichfalls, uebersetzt ins Englisch) "the narcissism of the small difference". The German "l" is more palatal than the English (which is more palato-dental), and the "au" diphthong is narrower than the English "ow". Still, the German rendering can still be clearly understood by English speakers.

  • Bueno, soy español asi que desconozco la letra pero entiendo que "All tomorrow parties" son las fiestas del mañana.....y uno va ya cumpliendo años y se emociona al recordar las fiestas del ayer.Una cancion preciosa.

  • I think this song should be the theme song for the late 1960's. Don't ask me why i just do.

  • who gives a shit what the song mean...it is subjective...just listen to it...and fuck the pseudo-intellectual hog wash...

  • The song doesn't "mean" anything. It is just a song. "Fans" or {acolytes} breathlessly attribute "meaning" to all these songs that The Beatles or Dylan or The Stones or The Velvet Undergound composed and oftentimes {in reality} the song was about a dog or someone else's son or perhaps a doorknob. Most of them don't mean much really. I certainly wouldn't consider the lyrics to this song to be particularly deep or in any way brilliant. Pretty mundane really. It is a nice song though.

  • @kentucy9999 but you wont ever know because you didnt write it.

  • I have been listening to this song from time to time for 30 years...my take is she's a fast-fading party girl, steps away from the gutter and utter madness. Sorta like Jane Says by Jane's Addiction. The muddy production is frustrating, it's another unearthly VU classic. The capitulating piano chords, kept up the entire song, is ingenious.

  • @rojinio I think you're right which means its possibly about, or influenced by, Edie Sedgwick

  • a six foot tall teutonic uber babe who could outdrink and outfuck the best of them

    NICO

  • This album was goodfor it;s time. There's no justification for Rolling Stone 100 best having this rated higher than Pink floyd's Dark side of the moon, Yes' Roundabout or Close to the edge, Jehtro Tull's Aqualung or many others on the list. I guess RS raters are a bunch of ex mainliners. Maybe they were on smack when they made the list!

  • @davidstep1956 (IMHO) I think Rolling Stone rated the VU so well, not because of the quality or timeline of their music, rather the influence the band left for all the generations to come.

  • @davidstep1956 Music is subjective my friend, no list will ever be justified. For me I think this is the greatest record ever made, and I didn't even exist when it was recorded. To each their own, and all your choices are also legendary albums. Take care.

  • truly touching, vneckTshirt is spot on with the comment. its a song of dizzying heights, and gutter lows, nico r.i.p x x x

  • ...wonderful...

  • love lou's ostrich...all hail fluxus

  • Hauntingly beautiful.

  • Some people might consider the Velvet underground's views as negative or pessimistic. i think they were realists. they just happened to live different lives (hard drug abuse) than most people.

  • This original is brilliant, but I must just say that the Chilean band Los Tres did a decent cover of this song.

  • This song is so meaningful to me

  • when i first listened this song, i though that was a man xD

  • God, nico was stunning.. in looks and voice!!

  • I know the Velvets didn't fully accept Nico, and eventually threw off Warhol too, but I can't imagine this song being so good with a different singer. I've heard the demo sung by Reed, and it's good, but this is just so different and so perfect.

  • @Tsugaheterophylla Agreed, Nico's heavy Germanic accentation makes it what it is, some of her solo work is well worth checking out too.

  • I really dont "mind" her

  • Her voice is fantastic.

  • WTF !! too cool !

  • the first time i heard this song was from the chilean band "los tr3s" and i really liked it and now i cant stop pressing the replay button hahahaha

  • ...

  • 5 people don't have gowns.

  • GALAXIE 500, HUH?

  • although, personally, Nico was an indispensable member of VU, the band never really accepted her. Warhol insisted that she got involved, being his present muse, she died tragically in the early 70's bleeding to death from a scooter accident i believe was in ibiza. no one heard her cryies for help and she bled out. R.I.P.NICO

  • @junkdevil1 Er, Nico did die in Ibiza, but it was a bicycle accident in 1988, she got a brain bleed but the hospital thought it was just heat stroke.

  • this song stimulates the senses

  • Five people didn't get an invite.

  • This is my favorite VU song. Of the solo recordings released by band members, Nico's Marble Index is my favorite, with Desertshore close behind. There's a very good documentary about her called "Nico Icon."

Before the Sisters of Mercy, before Bauhaus, before Dead Can Dance, before Siouxie Sioux, there was Nico.

  • nico was so beautiful. she obviously didnt feel that way

  • theyre all so young! lou reed!

  • Alemoud sandiwts lamon dondrouid limenskie labran kindamon lamoe

  • 4 people can't wait until tomorrow to party.

  • Nico is so pretty :)

  • The word cool came from this!

  • the jap comment says something like,

wow, before i was born there was such awesome music, i never want this good song to finish

  • If you love Velvet Underground, I’m pretty sure, you’d like my music too. I made an apocalyptic song called "A Winter Evening's Tale”. This is also for all of us folks facing 2011. Do check it out in my channel or check it out in the video response of this awesome video. The song references Pilgrim's Progress, bible, Alice in the wonderland, peter pan, Shakespeare, Revelations, crusades etc. It also depicts eerie classical paintings. Have a folky new year!

  • @darcon81 you sound like a CLON.

  • Perfect...

  • I had this on cassette- never realized who it was as the lettering had all worn off. I'm playing it one day and my oldest brother stops and says 'Where did you get THAT?'

  • Nico was notorious for performing fellatio, and apparently, she was quite talented at it. Besides being a model, artist and musician, she was also somewhat of a groupie. She had a particular interest in Jim Morrison, and the rest of The Doors, too.

  • @TIMOTHYSAARINEN Awesome. More power to her

  • I love song which came before my time. May it remain forever in all tomorrows. Arigato

    cdbaby(dot)com/cd/similarprisoners

  • she's a total headcase but if she sings like this to me my heart is won. sing away' gorgeous beauty,. i'm a fan, Nico

  • @eatenbybats Sorry mate, but she is dead : ((

  • @desmonica1 So sad, i know. But surely if one is recorded then part of ones soul may live on if only in memory. Her voice did invoke such melancholic beauty, maybe the teuton in her, the triumph of the will.

  • @eatenbybats totally, you can feel it in each song, beautiful.........

  • ah, taxi

  • i went to google translate, and pasted the Japanese comment... is said:

I had such a great song before his birth!

I do not want to end the song about infatuation ♪ ^ ^ ^

    mhm, yeh...I totally get it

  • hahaha the japanese comment is funny..not sure why i dont even get it..im guessing velvet underground is famous in japan

  • "That there was such a terrible music before oneself was born! Music ♪^^ which I don't want you to be over and can adore"

that is what you're all thumbs up-ing. hahah.

  • wow, I only just now discovered that this song was original by the velvet underground. I only new it from an old nick cave record (his version is also pretty cool imo)

  • google translates nobukazuasa:

I had such a great song before his birth!

I do not want to end the song about infatuation

  • 她是很好

  • @httdp is this the jap comment your all on about?

  • Just like Femme Fatale this song is likely about Edie or at the very least the type of factory girl Edie embodied

  • One of the great intros of all time.

  • The Velvet Underground were such a great band.

  • thumbs up for all comments in Japanese!! (is fucking hard to learn that language;)

  • @varettah Not with google translator :P

  • This song would be great for karaoke, so simple.

  • DAMN ! I AM ON HIGH WHEN LISTENING THIS SONG. SOMETHING LIKE AFTER COCAINE ! love YOU VELVET UNDERGROUND AND NICO !

  • Has anyone said here that they want this played at their funeral?

  • @midmodgal actually it's in my will, funny you should mention it. Hopefully that's a long way off though.....

  • @midmodgal I prefer The Mothers "Lumpy Gravy" part II :)

  • @TumbrelJockey Wow, I hope it's a catered affair!

  • @midmodgal "...and tonight, Henry the Horse dances the Waltz"

  • @midmodgal hate to steal the idea but thats fuckin awesome i might do that haha

  • @midmodgal This intro especially would be beautiful for a funeral. I'd personally prefer "Ride into the Sun" and/or "I'm Set Free" because they are also gorgeous!

  • 超シブイけど個人的にはJAPANのカバーの方がいいな。

  • I went to see Nico live in a cellar stage in Northampton the year before she died. She performed with just a strange wind powered keyboard as accompaniment and the rendition of this was one of the most moving songs I have ever heard. From the Andy Warhol album it sounds a little cynical, a sort of "poor little rich g...irl" feel. Her version was half lament, half celebration for her life.

  • Man this sounds weird .... what nationality is this chick ... sounds real bad Goth to me tbh

I'm so glad Japan did a great version as it is a good tune.

  • @Silverwings63 She was German; she was a top model in her time. She was stunningly beautiful, but a total headcase. This song is one of the greatest songs ever made,.

  • I love the Velvet Underground. I respect Nico, but she acted like she had a stick up her ass and her and VU didn't really get along.

  • This song is like an incantation, summoning up a world that is gone. Or a world that is yet to be.

  • I feel stoned listening to this.

  • Hey, my english isn´t pretty good. What is she singing about? Is she singing about a hooker or something?

    Which is the meanining of

    A blackened shroud, a hand-me-down gown

Of rags and silks, a costume

Fit for one who sits and cries ?

    Thanks

  • @rojinio

This song was written by Lou Reed in the Andy Warhol Factory days. It's not about a hooker but about a type of girl who would hang out there. I'm sure you know a girl like this today, a girl who is always at all the parties but maybe doesn't have money to pay the rent or buy lunch. She doesn't have a new dress to wear but she makes a used, second hand dress "a hand me down gown" look good. It is kind of a sad song about the sad life of a "party girl" who ultimately sits and cries

  • @VneckTshirt I almost married one....

  • @VneckTshirt she would just whore herself nowdays-they start doin it at about 13:)

  • @VneckTshirt we make her sad

its the world that is wrong not the girl

  • @VneckTshirt --I heard written about Edie Sedgewick

  • @VneckTshirt I heard it was writen about Edie Sedgewick ,, one of Andy Warhol's "factory girls" OD'd around 1968

  • ...and what costume shall the poor girl wear to all tomorrow's parties?

  • I've just thumbsed up that Japanese comment and I don't even know what it says.

  • @bigdunk9 ha ha me too

  • @bigdunk9 here's the translation: "I had such a great song before his birth!, I do not want to end the song about infatuation"

  • @bigdunk9 LMAO!!

  • @bigdunk9 It says, "I want to make soup from Nico's soiled panties".in Japanese.

  • @bigdunk9 Assholes, use google traductor... hahahahaha

  • @bigdunk9 Its says "I had such a great song before his birth!

I do not want to end the song about infatuation!" whatever that means.

  • @bigdunk9 Your comment was hilarious i love that it got 165 thumbs up (including mine!) The japanese comment seems to be saying they like the cover by Japan better. Weird!

  • Jim Morrison fucked her btw.

  • yeahhhh xD

  • @YaroKior

    in the ass perhaps

  • @YaroKior considering that voice, I'd say its more likely she fucked Jim Morrison and not the other way around

  • @YaroKior didnt she fuck everyone in the band too???

  • @MsJackanape lou, john

  • Familiar with Alice In Chains anyone? The new lead singer for them (William Duvall) had his own band before chains. It was called COMES WITH THE FALL. They did this song live and it completely KICKED ASS. A must see. Just do a youtube search under the name Caressa Ayres.

  • the lyrics are like cinderella meets prometheus or something..

  • Magic...........and still,,,,,,,,the magic covered them like a shadow...and they opened their arms.... and the sound kissed them like a friend,,,,

  • @ThePaulwilsonart how eloquent...

  • Anyone who disses Nico should take the time to read her biography, all post VU. It's very moving. Bet hardly any of you knew that she lived in a little flat on the outskirts of Manchester, right up to her death in a bicycle accident. So sad.

  • gotta get me some andyshades

  • Great song, Nico sings great in this. Do you know also the Simple Minds covered this song?

  • poor Eddie

  • eternal

  • Definitive.

  • i wonder, for a long time now, if a DVD from their Berlin reunion concert, will hit

    the markets soon?

Please tell me, it will happen.

  • Warhol's favorite by The Velvets....great song!!

  • gg ever

  • I really dislike Nico (along with everyone in the VU) but she's an amazing singer and this is definitely the best song by the VU.

  • @stoprejectingmynames I'm just clearing up I meant everyone in the VU hated Nico, not I hated everyone in the VU.

  • Space Aliens are listening to this......and understanding it.......

  • sounds like lady gaga on heroin

  • Teutonic Nico!

  • Fucking epicly awesome song. bad ass but in an artsy way. Loved it since I first heard it... I remember when: I was in a dingy hotel room in Paris with my brother, smoking hash out of a shitty african pipe, both of which we had smuggled in from Amsterdam.

The hash and the song blew me away, I can still to this day remember the pseudo hallucinatoins I had... man! That was back in 1993 lol!!!! I'm getting old, but better lol

  • @tripleleo

still have a major crush on Nico lol, maybe in the afterlife she and I will hook up lol

  • Cel zivot go iskarate Laj Laj

  • Fucking.
