Holy Crap! How are you man? It's good to hear from you. I didn't know you lived in Nitten now. I should be over in the Summer. We should go out on the lash in The Dean and maybe hit their folk club down there.
Now you see that what happens now your famous, we all crawl oot the widwork. Been in Nitten for 7 yrs now. I'm often found frequenting the Dean, give me a shout when your over and we can drink beer!
Ozzy! how the hell are you! I have been trying to get in touch with you for ages. I actually have a version of The Bad Girl which I think is pretty much like that old tape you had if I remember it right. I'll send you a message also.
i bought a kit from backyard banjos on line had some miner problems that were all made good by the company it plays great couldnt be happier just bought another one thanks ;banjopicker1949
sweet, i just finished building one with a plywood head like that out of some old plywood and old floorboards we didn't use, it sounds pretty good, I'll probably post a video soon of it if you want to see
hi i'm from argentina, and here the banjo is not a veri famous instrument and the only banjos that are on sale here are really expensive because they are good and the dolar change isn't good for us.
So i was trying to make my own banjo, do you have any advice to make one that sounds good and it's also easy to make?
There are some sites on the net with blueprints etc which look pretty good. I bought this one from Backyard Instruments. If I were you i would buy a cheap one over the internet first. Sorry, I've never actually made one myself so I don't really have any good advice.
"This is my homemade bahama banjo, it's hard for finger picking, but it's good for clawhammer. It's made out of cardboard mind you. I didn't actually make it, but it's a good clawhammer banjo."
Oh, I didn't make it. I bought it online. I don't think it would take long though. I'm thinking about making one by copying the neck design and using a cookie tin for the head.
Well, it's just the rim that's made of cardboard. It's an interesting thing though, real light, surprisingly durable and it stays in tune pretty well. It cost around $120.
Deering makes some nice, inexpensive banjos. My first banjo was a Rogue which was a real cheap, aluminium pot, bluegrass banjo. I still think it sounds nice. I'm not much of a bluegrass style player so I prefer open backs of which I have a Johnson and a Kona that are cheaper than dirt but sound fine.
I'm not sure how easy any of these are to get in the UK. I think Grant makes some pretty nice, cheap, bluegrass banjos.
WOW! That's really impressive...and the sound was excellent. It didn't look like it sound that good until you made it sound good.

amazing sound for a cardboard one! how do you prevent the strings from bending the body from the tension?
DEUTSCHLANDDUDE 2 years ago
It's only the rim that's made of cardboard. I guess the title of the video is a bit misleading.

is the head on that banjo attached to the pot? or is it just held on by the tension of the strings?
williestratton 2 years ago
It's glued to the pot.

"This is my homemade bahama banjo, it's hard for finger picking, but it's good for clawhammer. It's made out of cardboard mind you. I didn't actually make it, but it's a good clawhammer banjo."
I believe that's an Irish accent.

Close: "This is my homemade Backyard Instruments banjo" "It's crap for finger picking"
It's a Scottish accent :)
