  • I didn't make this one. I bought it from backyard instruments. They sell online. Thanks

  • That's a super job! Have you instructions anywhere of how you made this?

  • Aye, the word is oot Steve, even in downtown Sixth Street. You've still got a Nitten accent tae! The auld banjo is sounding good though.

    A'w the best,

    Frazer

  • Hey Frazer,

Holy Crap! How are you man? It's good to hear from you. I didn't know you lived in Nitten now. I should be over in the Summer. We should go out on the lash in The Dean and maybe hit their folk club down there.

  • Now you see that what happens now your famous, we all crawl oot the widwork. Been in Nitten for 7 yrs now. I'm often found frequenting the Dean, give me a shout when your over and we can drink beer!

    Cheers the noo!

Fair takes me back to the old days in Dalkeith...Braw! Now lets hear a wee rendition of "The Bad Girl".

    Yours Aye!

    Ozzy

  • Ozzy! how the hell are you! I have been trying to get in touch with you for ages. I actually have a version of The Bad Girl which I think is pretty much like that old tape you had if I remember it right. I'll send you a message also.

  • What a lovely twanger you have.

  • Hey Pete. Well, I'm just all kicking pebbles and blushing an' that.

  • Thats a nice collection of twangers you have,

  • in the begining i could not understand you

  • That always surprises me. To me my accent has softened so much.

  • I love your accent, try to hang on to it as long as you can! It makes you different.

  • omg best music ever but no eiasly tt was good

  • i bought a kit from backyard banjos on line had some miner problems that were all made good by the company it plays great couldnt be happier just bought another one thanks ;banjopicker1949

  • Glad to hear it. i still have mine and it still plays as good :)

  • amazing sound for a cardboard one! how do you prevent the strings from bending the body from the tension?

  • It's only the rim that's made of cardboard. I guess the title of the video is a bit misleading.

  • dude..you really rock!

  • is the head on that banjo attached to the pot? or is it just held on by the tension of the strings?

  • It's glued to the pot.

  • sweet, i just finished building one with a plywood head like that out of some old plywood and old floorboards we didn't use, it sounds pretty good, I'll probably post a video soon of it if you want to see

  • Sounds good. Let me know when you get it posted.

  • hi i'm from argentina, and here the banjo is not a veri famous instrument and the only banjos that are on sale here are really expensive because they are good and the dolar change isn't good for us.

So i was trying to make my own banjo, do you have any advice to make one that sounds good and it's also easy to make?

  • There are some sites on the net with blueprints etc which look pretty good. I bought this one from Backyard Instruments. If I were you i would buy a cheap one over the internet first. Sorry, I've never actually made one myself so I don't really have any good advice.

  • wow you really like banjos that for sure Or you play it alot

  • I think he has banjoites,

    wich is a good thing

  • you're an awesome player man, cool banjo too, i like the look o it, very smooth and neat

  • What the hell did he say? Um-- he can play that thing though.

  • I think it translated to "I make banjos from that which houses Cheerios"

  • Paha. Rad.

  • "This is my homemade bahama banjo, it's hard for finger picking, but it's good for clawhammer. It's made out of cardboard mind you. I didn't actually make it, but it's a good clawhammer banjo."

I believe that's an Irish accent.

  • Close: "This is my homemade Backyard Instruments banjo" "It's crap for finger picking"

    It's a Scottish accent :)

  • @TheBanjoBoy yeah I couldn't really understand him either, but I do love his accent though. And I agree he can play quite well

  • my grandpa has one like that style just a real 1

  • Quality! You should name that tune Nitten By the Bing Blues

  • Ah, a fellow Nittener?

  • Can you give me the website i really would like to buy one!!!

  • Your other two are sittin' there goin dammit that thing sounds good.

  • Wow, pretty cool. Don't drop a cardboard banjo in Cripple Creek though.

  • Wow, What a great sound for a cardboard banjo!

  • Wow, I didn't expect it to sound so good

  • how long did it take to make that? i want to make a banjo for a class project ... and play oh susana lol

  • Oh, I didn't make it. I bought it online. I don't think it would take long though. I'm thinking about making one by copying the neck design and using a cookie tin for the head.

  • oh sounds simple enough .. thanks

  • Is that an electric one?

  • Naw, just accoustic. I don't know if they make an electric one but it would be real easy to put a pick up in it.

  • Really amzing you can get that fantastic sound out of cardboard:-) Almost like a real one.

  • That thing sounds pretty good!Cardboard???

  • Well, it's just the rim that's made of cardboard. It's an interesting thing though, real light, surprisingly durable and it stays in tune pretty well. It cost around $120.

  • I want to learn to play Banjo which Make is a good student one do you think i should go for?for Bluegrass

    best Wishes Nick

  • Deering makes some nice, inexpensive banjos. My first banjo was a Rogue which was a real cheap, aluminium pot, bluegrass banjo. I still think it sounds nice. I'm not much of a bluegrass style player so I prefer open backs of which I have a Johnson and a Kona that are cheaper than dirt but sound fine.

I'm not sure how easy any of these are to get in the UK. I think Grant makes some pretty nice, cheap, bluegrass banjos.

Let me know how it goes.

  • music 123 has some, and banjotars which are guitar necks on banjo bodies.

  • Love your playing man keep on posting.best wishes Nick

  • Liked it,,good job

  • steve is the shit

  • That was great! Well done.

  • nice. can you make me a new microphone out of haggis boxes now?
