I am from the older true pre Stalin famine in 1930's Ukrainian language school. Your Ukrainian or present day Ukrainian is closer to Russian. True Ukrainian language can be heard in Canada and the USA from the immigrants who stayed true!!!
You know the hilarious part of that is she would be speaking Ukrainian as dictated by NANU. You on the other hand would be speaking a regional dialect. Think Quebecois French as opposed to Parisian French.
So, technically speaking, you're the one with the horrible accent and slang. :P
Besides, there were Russian influences pre 1930, to just as large an extent as the Soviet Union. If my history is right anyway.
Thank you for making these videos. They are very helpful. I met my new girlfriend who is Ukranian and I'd love to suprise her with some Ukranian phrases. :)
Are most Ukrainians fluent in both Russian and Ukrainian or are there parts of the country were one language is more prevalent than the other? Thank You.
@lenchukk1 My wife is from the Ukraine and even though Ukrainians can speak Russian, they have a bad habit of mixing Russian and Ukrainian together. Also when they speak Russian, their pronunciation is not exactly the same and the stress can be different on the same word sometimes. They are both beautiful languages in their own right but I wish Ukrainians would not mix the two.
I agree, ukrainians can mix ukrainian with russian, with polish because they know that languages. But russians can not mix their language because of lack knowledges. Better if ukrainians would not speak russian at all, could have less problems for people and for country!!!
@lenchukk1 It would be okay if Ukrainians did not speak Russian at all but that is not true with a lot of them. People in the eastern part of the country mainly speak Russian with a little Ukrainian mixed in and if you asked them to only speak Ukrainian, they cannot do it.My wife's family is a perfect example of people from the Ukraine who aren't capable of speaking either language without mixing the two up. I don't like it since I was taught (Russia) Russian and sometimes can't understand them.
hi marykiev, I'm hoping that you continue these lessons on speaking Ukrainian and it would be great to learn more before my next trip to Odessa. Maybe you could give me some more basic phrases that would be useful when talking to a girl, if you could do this for me, I would be very grateful to you.
Very good Video, I have done a ton of traveling, mostly to S.E. Asia, and W.Europe (Thailand for a couple years, and Cologne Germany A LOT)...But before going to any "New" country, I ALWAYS tried to learn these basic things..Hello/Good Bye, Yes/No(which Thai is difficult as no words for yes/no, just how you repeat the verb), Also what come in very handy is learning the numbers(just to 10 or so), so you can always, no matter what you are getting you can say 1 piece, 2, 3 pieces....
please teach me ukrainian language. i want to go to sevastopol, ukraine next year. and i have this bad feeling im going to be lost. or get myself shot. lol

@92MandMs I'm not kidding I like Ukrainian over Russian. and Ukrainian is a nice country. The thing is, if everybody there speak Russian there, so people will keep learning Russian in all over the world. If Ukrainian will be the main language there, so, you know, people will be more interested in learn Ukrainian. I will learn Russian first, because there is a custom, but Ukrainian is my wish.

This is bullshit. She's speaking a "russianised" ukrainian. This is not true ukrainian ! Girl, you should be ashamed of yourself, you're insulting the real ukrainian language.
hello, i like your language i am from mexico and i will like to learn ucranian, :) can you teach me? more word, i can teach you spanish, a little french italian :D my name is juan, john in english plase answer me nice to meet you
thanks for your video (= i see you have haters but im Ukrainian and our parents came to America and they always talked Russian around me ! It's sad because I love my heritage but mine is a bunch of english/russian/ukrainian and I hate it ! i understand a little of the ukrainian words but russian is more easier for me . whatever point is when i get around older people my mom always corrects me and says i need to learn ukrainian so whats wrong when i say te and vyhe ?
hehe mary you are cute...are you american born and returned to kyiv or .... have you lived in the states for awhile? your english is so good you have so little ukrainian accent in your english! paka paka! :-)
Ukrainian seems a lot melodic as you've said. Surely is a language I'd like to learn asap. I hope you the best things and continue spreading the word of your language.
I really want to learn Ukranian, I think its beautiful.! and I totaly wanna go there onde day. It was really useful your video, you shoud record more. I wanna know things like: What´s your name / Could you tell me what time is it / etc.. Regards from "Chile" (really far away)
I was wondering is Kiev is a safe place to live. Is there a lot of crime and or corruption in Kiev? I am 50 % Ukrainian and 50% American. One day in the future I'd like to visit my homeland.
I liked the video, and it was nice and relaxed, not like a very serious teacher thing. I noticed it was posted a long time ago? Do you have plans to continue with your videos??
@IIIZEPHYROSIII Well, actually, she´s not lying... Ehh... All our movies and cartoons are dubbed with Дякую. Word. This word is in all dictionaries. But it´s polite and more official way of saying "Thanks".
Odessa? Well, that explains it. You see, each region has it´s dialects. If Russian language is dominative there, this means that Ukrainian will have more Russian influence. It all depends on the region.
We´re talking about Official Standart Ukrainian. And it doesn´t have "Spasybi".
@IIIZEPHYROSIII Wow wow wow... Cut it out, man. I said nothing wrong, and I never offended you.
If you´re so against me and my language, then why are you here in the first place?
And where did I lied? I don´t speak Russian, yes. That´s why I´m using other languages. Or what, do you really think that EVERYONE knows Russian? Come on, face the facts.
Я хотел бы начать учить украинский, но к сожалению влюблюсь в девушек, которые мне говорят по украински :( this is just the best language of the world :D
PS could you say a twister in ukrainan? :) I know polish and i like the szsz czcz sounds :)
@russianboy3012 neither are you, judging from your english. and anyway, there are research materials confirmed by numerous linguists about the melody of the ukrainian language. i am merely repeating the facts.
@TheJamesDM I take care about russian languge, because I think I must know it very good and love it , to be called russian. And you should know, that it`s more useful to learn russian language if you want to visit ukraine/ I`m sure - everybody in Ukraine understand russian and this language is used by 300 million people all around the world. Only 30 % of ukrnians use in their life ukranian language
@TheJamesDM may be< it`s good, coz every nation should have their own culture and language, but as i think they should know russian language too, because history of Rus' begins from Kiev.
Czech and polish similar on russian and sometimes I can understand some words or phrases, also we can understand languages from balckanian countries.
Rough? Our language is tender and melodic. But I can`t say it about your language- it`s sounds like person without tetth talking on russian :D.
So, even my american friend says- "Russian sounds sexy :Ь Even russian accent in English so sexy"
@marykiev Could you do a video speaking in Ukrainian and Russian to make a comparison..... I want to know if it is true that ukrainian sounds more melodic than Russian.
@Ashtonian54 i do not know does it sound better, but i am croat and i can more understand Ukrainian than russian..do not know why..but they use similar words as we do.
@Ashtonian54 Ukranian language used by babyshky in small villages. Sound of each language depends from voice of person, who speak it. For you russian is "girly" and for me ukranian is ugly, so everybody have a right on his own opinion. For me beatiful languages is Italian and French <3

@Ritternkreis Are you kidding? Why? :)
92MandMs 6 months ago
@92MandMs I'm not kidding I like Ukrainian over Russian. and Ukrainian is a nice country. The thing is, if everybody there speak Russian there, so people will keep learning Russian in all over the world. If Ukrainian will be the main language there, so, you know, people will be more interested in learn Ukrainian. I will learn Russian first, because there is a custom, but Ukrainian is my wish.

TheKrieger2011 6 months ago

My mum was telling me that Polish is more similar to Ukranian than Russian.. So I was bored and went on youtube now to see. LOL don't judge me :P
Yes... anyway, some words are similar! that's pretty, if I ever went to Ukraine I'd understand a little, since I speak Polish.
Well... Greetings all the way from- Australia lol :)

TheJamesDM 8 months ago
@IIIZEPHYROSIII Wow wow wow... Cut it out, man. I said nothing wrong, and I never offended you.
If you´re so against me and my language, then why are you here in the first place?
And where did I lied? I don´t speak Russian, yes. That´s why I´m using other languages. Or what, do you really think that EVERYONE knows Russian? Come on, face the facts.
TheJamesDM 8 months ago
@IIIZEPHYROSIII Sorry, I don´t speak Russian. Please, use English, Polish, Czech or Ukrainian if you want to make a conversation.
Thanks.

Ukranian sounds not better than russian, you not linguist, girl!
russianboy3012 8 months ago
@russianboy3012 neither are you, judging from your english. and anyway, there are research materials confirmed by numerous linguists about the melody of the ukrainian language. i am merely repeating the facts.
marykiev 8 months ago 11
@marykiev I dont care about my english. I can understand english-speaking people and they can understand me - it`s enough for me.
And ukranian is a ugly child of russian language. It`s mix of russian and polish languages.
russianboy3012 8 months ago
@russianboy3012 Well, actually, linguists don´t think so. And if you don´t care about the languages you speak - then you´re kinda ignorant...
TheJamesDM 8 months ago
@TheJamesDM I take care about russian languge, because I think I must know it very good and love it , to be called russian. And you should know, that it`s more useful to learn russian language if you want to visit ukraine/ I`m sure - everybody in Ukraine understand russian and this language is used by 300 million people all around the world. Only 30 % of ukrnians use in their life ukranian language
russianboy3012 8 months ago
@russianboy3012 Yes, you are right at some points. You have to love Russian language, because you are Russian.
And I have to love Ukrainian, because I´m a citizen of Ukraine. That´s it.
Btw, it´s not 30 percent. According to the last research, it´s more than 65 now. Time is going, and things are changing.
Older people are Russian-speaking, but young ones are more Ukrainian now. Teens and such. And I think that this is good.
Ukrainian helps to understand Polish and Czech, btw.
TheJamesDM 8 months ago
@TheJamesDM may be< it`s good, coz every nation should have their own culture and language, but as i think they should know russian language too, because history of Rus' begins from Kiev.
Czech and polish similar on russian and sometimes I can understand some words or phrases, also we can understand languages from balckanian countries.
russianboy3012 8 months ago
@russianboy3012 Well, nobody is against learning Russian here. It´s just not needed, because all you need to work or study here is Ukrainian.
Everyone can learn Russian or Polish, or Czech or whatever if he wants here. If someone wants to know Russian - no problem.
The only thing that shall remain without changes - official language. Country´s Ukraine, and language is Ukrainian.
People may speak whatever they want to speak, but official language shall remain the same.
TheJamesDM 8 months ago
@russianboy3012 Polish IS a beautiful language :P Dziekuje ci bardzo.. haha
but Ukranian isn't that ugly... I haven't really heard people speak it. So I guess I wouldn't know..
But Russian is kind of a rough language- Not being mean.. :S
Jessiczka1996 7 months ago
Rough? Our language is tender and melodic. But I can`t say it about your language- it`s sounds like person without tetth talking on russian :D.
So, even my american friend says- "Russian sounds sexy :Ь Even russian accent in English so sexy"
russianboy3012 7 months ago
@russianboy3012 lol what? Polish sounds like someone has no teeth? loooool that's stupid lmfao..
BUT! I am going to agree with you that Russian accents are pretty sexy when spoken English.. haha

@russianboy3012
I'm sorry but Ukrainian does sound better than Russian. Russian always sounds 'girly' to me. Good for Babushky not for guys!
Ashtonian54 7 months ago
@Ashtonian54 i do not know does it sound better, but i am croat and i can more understand Ukrainian than russian..do not know why..but they use similar words as we do.
FaberOSK 6 months ago
@Ashtonian54 Ukranian language used by babyshky in small villages. Sound of each language depends from voice of person, who speak it. For you russian is "girly" and for me ukranian is ugly, so everybody have a right on his own opinion. For me beatiful languages is Italian and French <3
russianboy3012 6 months ago
@russianboy3012 Russian is a horrible language. Ukrainian is melodic. MOSKAL.
