i disagree that this is finally a movie that is on global standards. I mean Dev D IS A WORLD CLASS FILM. but we had many world class films decades before Dev D. We JUST COULDN"T MAINTAIN THAT LEVEL OF BRILLIANCE that we had in Kaagaz Ke Phool, Do Bigha Zameen, Shatranj Ke Khiladi and many others. Contemporary films are good like Maqbool, Hazaron Khwahishein Aisi and Gulaal and hopefully more to come.

Hang on world class film?

Its a good movie, they have adapted a classical novel to fit in with contemporary times and the actors have done a good job. But that doesn't make the film world class.

Omkara fits nearly the same descriptions as this movie, and was a much better movie. But I wouldn't even call that world class.

No disrespect to Vishal Bhardwaj and Sudhir Mishra, but while they are better suited to judging the technical aspects of movie compared to me; who is to say that my opinion whether a movie is good or bad is less important than theirs?

No I agree that we as The general Audience's voice has more value than them but yes if they found this groundbreaking, they yes it is groundbreaking.

I'm guessing u have seen a lot of world cinema like i have. And when Dev D's trailer was released it was no less than a commercial German or a commercial south american film and that's where even I agreed that this is world class. Some people found the film's second half as self indulgent on Kashyap's behalf but then visually it was BRILLiaNT.

The trailer is of no real value when it comes to judging a movie. If you look at the trailers so many Hollywood movies create, it makes you believe that they are making the greatest movie of all time, but it ends up being rubbish.

No one can disagree that Dev D wasn't a well made and well conceived film, but I don't believe it was worth all the hype it has received from the masses. I think they just enjoyed the liberal use of the words fuck and whore.

because only the Commercial audience enjoyed the words Fuck and Whore in this films. People who have watched cinema are indifferent. I have seen The Departed where Fuck was used 237 times, Pulp Fiction 254 times and Reservoir dogs 273 times. so it was nothing new to me. but people who watch masala hindi movies only had something new, and masala hindi movies= commercial crap. hence comes in the commercial factor of the film.

I haven't seen the hype that you mention except on the net. Maybe in the metros. But most people I know (and I come from a small town) haven't watched it. Quite a few didn't because of the use of those words as film-viewing for the masses is a laugh a good time with family.

Well Movies are a personal choice and frankly there is a huge list of movies which are one of the best and amazing but they were commercially flop :) example Andaz apna apna, pyasa, kagaz ke phool, umrao jaan and many more. I for sure would not put dev d in the same league as pyasa it would be blasphemy but it is a good twist on normal movies. I was shocked too at the way it is explicit but yes in real life some people are that explicit. I like his take on devdas and merging of diff scandals.

I am not sure what you consider generaly audience. I am strictly against abuses and swear words, I watched Dev D and i was shocked at how explicit it was but I would say it was a very well made movie but the only downfall was too liberal use of swear words. Maybe you are biased. I liked the way he included the scandals in the story and how it matched the novel still being contemporary. Where paro has shades of actual paro from the novel but also at certain points comppletely contradicts it :)

This film does not claim itself to be conservative film since they've used obscene language right from the trailers. If you don't like such language why watch it and criticise it?

Just because it doesn't agree with your personal choice doesn't mean that you should criticise the film for going against your choice.

In my opinion the obscenity was essential for the movie to be pulled off the way it did, otherwise it would have been just another Shahrukh Khan crap

finally a "bolywood" movie that breaks all boundaries and steps into the relm of international cinema. the songs are all well placed, no stupid scenarios where hero and heroine start running in a farm all of a sudden. well done Anurag Kashyap. and best of all no plagiarism except the emotional atyachaar song. still very well made movie. a must watch for the content.
