I'm pretty sure the overheating issue with this model is between the lack of case fans and the video card, which I thought was garbage. I'd recommend installing a couple of case fans and a new video card with an external exhaust so it blows the hot air outside of the case. I also upgraded the PSU. I actually modified this enough that I'm using a GTX 460 1GB and running games like Metro and Crysis. I'll be replacing it with a custome build within the next year, though. Sandy Bridge FTW!

@AKSBSU A computer like this will NOT overheat just because you assume it doesn't have good airflow. Why do you think this PC has a GT 120? A Media Center Remote? Vista Premium? It's a Media Center PC dude, I cannot believe you missed that info. Most people are not going to buy it to put a crap load of fans in it because it's not necessary for a prebuilt media center PC. I would NOT want to watch a movie with a computer that has a dozen fans with a loud GTX 460 that sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

@vangstaz You don't know what you're talking about. There are NO CASE FANS in this computer, and the standard graphics card blows more hot air into the case. I bought an external exhaust EVGA GTX 460, which was whisper quiet, and I installed 2 additional fans to help lower the heat. I saw substantial reduction in system temperature.

In case you weren't aware of this, and clearly you aren't, this particular PC is well known for overheating. With the fixes I used, it was not no longer an issue.

@AKSBSU I highly doubt that a simple graphics card such as the GT 120 is capable of overheating the PC to the point it shuts down. You can put up to a 120mm fan on this but it's not necessary if you're ONLY using it for media center purposes, is what I'm saying. Also there is a cone on the heatsink that allows the CPU fan to suck in cool air through the vent (I used a cone before), so how can the PC overheat if the graphics card can barely put out 50W of heat? The PSU fan is adequate enough.

Case fans are needed but were omitted by Gateway. A lower end graphics card can contribute to overheating because not enough hot air isn't being expelled from the case.

@AKSBSU I had an older Compaq with a much smaller case that had little to no vents on the panel. I had an HD 4350, which is similar to a GT 120, and I didn't have a system fan in it either. I never experienced any issues with my CPU or my graphics card overheating. My Compaq NEVER shut down on my once due to heat issues even without a fan and that thing served me well for a media center system.

IF YOU BUY THIS PC, READ THIS! I have the same pc and it's great but you need to immediately upgrade a few things. It comes with a terrible CPU cooler so you need to replace the stock CPU cooler with a nicer one. It WILL OVER HEAT if you're a gamer. You should upgrade the video card as it's lacking but if you're not a gamer it might get you by. You need to upgrade the power supply immediately as the power supply isn't highly rated and could be upgraded fairly cheap.The big problem is over heatin

I got this computer around a year ago when it just cam out, i warn you to be careful when you get this. Make sure to buy a case fan because it doesn't come with one. Also its good to get a VERY good virus software. Its prone to overheating and shutting down if not kept cool, the processor also is like a big ass heater so leave room for it to suck in cold air. they can always hire people that can build them the pc. i7 920 has some budget to it but the lost of those 2GB memory i think is worse then an i6 with 8GB. Allthough an i7 with 12GB memory is to perfer.

Radeon is an good chouse if not for the drivers that sucks. Thats why i perfer to reccomand nvidia that works allot better :)

highend? i would say no... thats not high end. Core i7 975 with 12GB of dominator and three nvidia 295's in quadsli + dedicated physx. watercooled with 6 solid state drives in an raid 10 array. And then two corsair 1000hx psu's when we are talking that kind of performence we are starting to get to what high end means.

Radeon is not the name of the company. it is ATi. ATi has the most powerful graphics card out now so how can their drivers suck. Nvidia is at a loss right now. the TSMC shortage may last until Q2 2010, so fermi is delayed. real bad for nvidia. thats why they are releasing this GT120, GT220 cards to hold off.

gt120? that's not right. gt120 is under gt220, most of the 100 series (if not all) are OEM only and are out already... if you're talking about the gt300 series, fermi, then it's called GF100, which are the first "consumer" nvidia cards based upon the fermi architecture.

yeah, the 100 series is OEM, but nvidia released the GT200 series as a hold off. have you read up on how nvidia has been on their journey to releasing fermi? its been horrible D: i feel sorry for them. the 40nm shortage is the worst impact. thats why the prices on 260's and such have risen. theyre loosing the money they could be getting if fermi was out on the planned release. now its just hurting them.

they should have refined the 295's abit made them with the 275 internals instead of the 260 internals. And they should have added 3way support on those. instead of regular sli. So an 6gpu setup that works. surely that would be an better way to spend money.

the 295's drawback is the new version only has 2dvi's the old has 2dvi's and hdmi port. So they took one port off. Then they made the card single board. Not good... the old version was allot better. redefine that version to get more cash.
