  • Excellent! Have you tried:

    Once, twice, thrice Julia tried

Sir Walter enjoying his damsel last night

I gave her cakes and I gave her ale

or several others in the same vein.

Some of the political catches are quite fun too.

All available in the modern edition of "Merry Companions

  • should be 'Once, twice, thrice I Julia tried'.

  • I now know why my stepson has been living in Melbourne for the last two years - he must have been at your open day.

Have you sung "My man John had a thing that was long" by John Eccles?

    Michael, Toronto

  • No, I haven't.. but I want to now!

  • This is a wonderful group, and thanks for posting all these excellent performances! However, one question: is everyone singing "When Celia . . ." really as oblivious to the obscene double meanings as they seem to be? Anyway, thanks for all the wonderful postings and keep 'em coming. Cheers. Derek, USA

  • Thank you! No, we were all very aware of the *wink wink, nudge nudge* aspect of the song. The trick was to sing it with a straight face. ;)

  • Well, I must say your group did an excellent job vis a vis keeping "poker faces."

  • I do have to admit, though.. that some of us got confused about which group we were in when it came to the round. But we managed to mask that pretty well too.. I think!

  • I'm singing this with my Music History class today during our recital hour. Thanks for a good example to follow and learn from.

  • I'm glad we could help. Good luck!
