Man. I believe in the metaphysical and the sciences. And here you are, insulting a man who has his own grasp on the way the universe works. As you have your own. What you're doing in my opinion for the message you're trying to send. From what I am getting from you is you're trying to say how things work in your world and how Carl Sagan is wrong. This makes you no less than Christians who say others beliefs are wrong. You would've been better served by just stating your beliefs. Not how hes wrong
LOL. Here are my thoughts. Basically, the stars are made up of atoms molecules; Matter. When the stars supernova those atoms and molecules; The stars matter, are spread out through the universe. Then the matter comes together again and creates fun stuff like other stars, planets, and things on the planets including us. So therefore, if we are created from matter from the stars, which is all around the universe, then aren't we part of the Universe?
You moan about people insulting you? You insulted Dr Carl Sagan in your last video, a man of great intelligence, and you think you've got a right to not be insulted? And please dont compare yourself to Einstien, you've already shown how much you're not in that comparison, by far.
First off, I'm sorry.. but I'm not a fan of your videos.. I'm not even sure why I watched this one (rambling).. But I would like to give you my interpretation of what Sagan meant by "we/ve been here before" or "we've traveled this way before". I think he is talking about the past challenges that humanity has had to overcome, and that we can overcome again. Humanity has ventured into the unknown before in various ways, and we still are.. Just my opinion.
Also, i feel you are mssing something yourself, the fact that lifeless atoms (molecules, incidentally, do not have a continuous existance through time) are able to come together in such a way as to create life and intelligence (we cannot yet derive consciousness from basic physical laws. However, something as simple as a head trauma shows that the personality and "soul" is a product of biochmistry) is precisely where the wonder in Sagan's philosophy comes from.
i would stronglly suggest reading Sagan's Cosmos, as a companion to the television series. his comment on us having been here before, was actually a reference to human history and development- likening space exploration to the expansion to the voyages europeans made to america.
Thanks for clarifing your first video. Sagan's statement is very clear. We are made of atoms that have been through up to 3 stars. And yes, through random processess, plus natural selection, the human brain has evolved, and that brain can contemplate the cosmos. To me, that is most profound and thrilling. Some people may think that some unseen hand directed it all. I do not. Nor did Sagan. He (and most of the other scientists) are atheists. That is what makes it so awe inspiring to us.
you need to heal your soul get off youtube and live off the grid in solitude for 6 months reading book after book all day long - carrying your own water choppin your own wood. Carl Sagan blazed bowls and believed in god - most scientists/cosmologists/physicists are the most spiritually enlightened ppl on this planet. Get off your high horse your ego manifested for you. you may have had a great acid trip or two but if you put every book in the world in a blender... It's still a .blender
You claim your critics lack intelligence, yet you frequently disparage the findings of accredited scientists. Be careful when you support mysticism and disclaim science -- it tends to limit ones credibility. The look doesn't help much either.
i also think that there are undetectable things everywhere that we have nothing that can pick it up when i was younger i brought that idea up to my friends and they all laughed i wonder if we knew and there was how many things it would change
i would like to think that we have a soul and be all spiritual but it seems that memories and our conscience are all just chemical reactions in our brain but what do i know just my thoughts on the subject i know there is no proof to either side though so anybody could be right but everyone should speak their mind and beliefs because that's what sparks new ideas and new answers i also think daily that the nothing/vacuum of outer space is not just nothing just like u said in your first video
9 min and 58 seconds of my life wasted on this self proclaimed scientist! But I am not really surprised after I see his first video comment, but hell I though I should give him a chance to explain what he mean with "black matter" that is everywhere.
carl segan is not trying to answer the unknows, he sees things from perspectives on many different levels and that this interwoven mesh of random events and laws allows for existence to well.. exist
if you are biased then fine, i appreciate your perspective. but dont be such a downer
we are "star stuff" and we (all life) resemble them as if they are our ancestors
stars are borne > grow > age > die > and are recycled (even as new stars!!)
its the cycle of all things "we are all connected".

I think you first make your own personnal and subjective interpretation. He said 'stuff' because at smaller scales, matter and waves seems similar. I'm not sure there's a premisse saying we are just random 'matter', but something way different.
alright, go claim your fucking nobel prize. you're clearly smarter than all those vague materialist scientists who don't know what they're talking about. lol
I think he means that we humans have consciousness and are now aware that we are biologically made of the same molecules and such as stars might be made of. We 'came' from the universe, we are 'made' of the universe if you will, and by knowing that we know the universe. That's just my take on it anyway. I agree that most people don't dig deeper at all. Thought provoking video.
When he says that we are a way for the cosmos to know itself he is saying that the physical laws that the universe abides by are in such a way that they permit the existence of the human consciousness. A consciousness that has the ability to evaluate the physical laws that allowed for its existence and in this sense we are a way for the cosmos to know itself. Obviously this holds the belief that consciousness exists due to the physical nature of the brain. This is what I think he is saying
Being insulting doesn't necessarily show a lack of intelligence - it just means that they want to be insulting. It DOES inform you of their manners though. Also, if a person has a large body of work it doesn't speak it the quality. The only thing that is certain is the person is prolific.
I find your criticism of Sagan's final comments in the music video to be quite speculative as we are watching a small snippet of a larger monologue in which he may well have clarified the meaning of that statement. All that aside, Carl Sagan was not necessarily the most brilliant astronomer to have graced the face of the earth, but he was highly adept at engaging people with the science of astronomy, as well as the scientific virtues of critical thinking and experimentation that accompany it.
if we weren't connected by some wierd magic then magical things wouldn't happen, and they do, like psycic stuff, i've done it, i have family who's done it, friends that have done it, how do you astral travel in a dream to places and prove it without magic? i'm talking to the skeptics of everything, like this guy is.
I said learn some fucking respect asshole. The only reason I am talking down to you is because you are a bully who talks down to others. Trying to project your own bullshit on me? Fuck you. People who know me know I am not an elitist. You don't. You live in your own dark fairy fantasy about whatever you think I may think but you know absolutely nothing about me or who I am. You sir, have no class as shown by your comments. Step out of your fucking darkness and just THINK.
From a person who spells his name in all caps, that's not even an insult. Your jealousy due to your total lack of intelligence is so obvious. If you stopped hating others long enough to educate yourself you'd be a much nicer person and better liked. Or would you like to blame me for your pathetic life. Get real and learn some fucking respect.
I think what Carl Sagan was saying was. We are all made up of the same stuff, when he said "we are made of star stuff" he ment it literally. "The beauty of a living thing is not the atoms that go into it but the way those atoms are put together" So if we are made of the same stuff, we are the universe. We are getting to know the universe we live in. Thus the universe is can know itself... I don't like you, and I think you are the one with a warped method of thinking. Be well, read a book.
5:50 "No I don't have that kinda funding yet" Ahhaha good god do I hope you eventually get that kinda funding, I could watch this shit all day bahahaha
Wow, that's a great intelligent addition to this conversation. Perhaps you should go back to studying for your Middle School exams before you fail them and are forced to repeat 6th grade.
Sagan was waxing poetic. He was saying that the atoms we're made of were fused from hydrogen into the heavier elements in the reaction of stars. All of the elements we are, are part of the larger universe, we only borrow them momentarily and return them when we die. He was attempting to impart an understanding of how small and insignificant we are. Please explain to me why you cling to ethereal sudo-scientific rationals instead of evidence based approaches.
"Science is not what you think." - the usual nonsense coming from people who don't understand science in the first place.
"Science" is a pretty well-defined process and the reason that things like mysticism aren't in it is because they have no place in it. Except, maybe, in psychology. :)
carl segan is not trying to answer the unknows, he sees things from perspectives on many different levels and that this interwoven mesh of random events and laws allows for existence to well.. exist

its the cycle of all things "we are all connected".
He refers to the "Universe to know itself" by humanity discovering the way the universe works.
And its idiotic when you state that all atoms just randomly assembled to make stuff, even at a high school level, Chemistry and Physics teach that at the stage of the big bang called the recombination stage, protons and electrons combined to form neutral Hydrogen.
The biggest thing that you did not understand is that the series "Cosmos" was aimed at audience that didnt have any clue about the cosmos.
The Big Bang is propaganda. It never happened the way they say it did. Sorry that some of us were smarter than our High School teachers to think beyond their models that they told us were the truth but who none of them understood sufficiently not to walk into class without a teacher's aide book. That's reality. Anyone who knows should prove it. The rest is BS.
So you know know it happened? Please do explain with evidence that doesnt include that world being created afew thousand years ago.
And im saying that on average they start teaching the "Theory" Not propaganda (wtf are you talking about lol) of the big bang that leads into college etc. and well to be honest i dont know where your from but in ireland a teacher actually HAS to work to get a job.
Let's be honest. Neither you nor I has the time for this discussion. You are wrong adn the reason is because you don't understand. Now to correct your ideas it would take me far more time than I can spend right now, but let me promise that even if it takes me my next 100 lifetimes I will prove to you what I am saying. For the proof that the Big Bang is a crook of nonsense, you will just have to wait for my vidoes and book like the rest of everyone.
Oh and never bait me with that a few thousand years nonsense. You have absolutely no respect for me, probably because you have very little respect for yourself. I will, though, being such a good person forgive you not knowing how closed minded you are.
Oh, and finally, I will require $100 dollars from you to pay for the insult of saying I am talking bullshit. You don't have to pay me in this lifetime, that's just fine, but rest assured I intend to collect the $100 for my service of trying to teach you manners in some future incarnation.
You say i dont understand, but what do i not understand?
And the reason i dont have any respect for you what so ever is because you cant even simply explain anything that happens in this universe, I have not yet heard one fact just dumb statements ie, "I will require $100 dollars from you to pay for the insult of saying I am talking bullshit."
So please if your not closed minded explain to me what i dont understand
When I'm done with my videos and book then I will be putting up videos with my explantion. Until such time I am too busy working on that to give you my discertation on knowledge. I've written a draft for a book with 30 pages as evidence so far. You don't need me to prove anything at all you can plug in The Big Bang Never Happened by Lerner, Plasma Cosmology, Electric Universe, or The Final Theory by McCutchoen in your browser search bar which will cover about 75% of my big bang commentary.
So why don't you understand? Its probably (I guess) because you haven't read any of the alternative theories to the Big Bang that I have. I've read just about all of them and understand both sets of theories extremely well. I'm not sure what your background is, but make a video or something with your case and we can trade comments back and forth. Do I know what you understand? Not till you prove it to me. If you are serious you can start with, why do you think the Big Bang happened?
Props man. Couldn't agree more. This guy is the one making the assumptions and talking non-sense. I blame too much drugs and not enough hugs. :) Youtube video's don't make you cool (as we see here) so don't worry about not having 4,000 BS video's.
No good scientist is "against" anything. Here, I'll quote one of Sagan's" cronies" (though in truth no one of these men was any better or any more of a leader than the others...).
"It is scientific only to say what is more likely and what less likely, and not to be proving all the time the possible and impossible"
I would say that ideas present by mysticism are incredibly unlikely, supported with no concrete evidence, and can thus be set aside with religion as non-scientific avenues of faith.
So some guy comments on this video saying no good scientist is against anything. Really? Are we against the idea that the Earth is flat? I think so. Evidence for something automatically precludes the existence of something else if it is diametrically opposed. You cannot both be for the Big Bang and against it. You are either for or against it. Science is no more special than any other branch of human knowledge.
Scientists are for some things and against others. Carl Sagan is definetly for his theory and against the theory that the Earth was created 6000 years ago by the bearded geezer. You see, good scientists are against ideas. That's science. You lie by saying they aren't because they argue against it!
"We have been this way before" He is talking about the Big Bang. It came from a single point and then scattered everywhere. The energy that created all of us came from this point, hence "We have been this way before"
Just going to pause the video at the 6 minute mark, do you review what you film before posting? Let's just do a quick run down of the ironies and idiocies whilst they're fresh, 1. Sagan "doesn't?" He's dead, he "didn't" 2. Accusing others of ignorance for your assumption that we believe you never watched cosmos, when you accused others of not knowing what dark matter was etc? 3. You say after talking about it for 3 minutes you won't touch on your hygiene. And you claim others are stupid?
"We are made of starstuff", he meant that we and our planet and the various animals and planets on our planet...we are made of atoms that have come from various stars.
While I agree with the fact that anyone leaving such...basal comments is probably not intelligent enough to actually grasp the scientific notions Carl Sagan spoke, you do realize the "Dirty Wizard" character does the same thing? Acts rude, etc
Heck, I even for a moment thought you actually acted like that! Which was of course, very stupid of me. XD
Well....my beliefs are a mix of i don't know and i don't give a fuck....cuz really there is a limit to what we can know.....
I'm more of a Terrence Mckenna fan, although i'm not a firm believer of his I-ching Mathematical Model of Consciousness, i definitely agree with his Novelty theory and of course his criticism to science and its practices....science in thought is different to how science is applied....
By star stuff, he's saying we're made of the exact same building blocks of the universe and the 'universe knowing itself' is simply a way of saying that humans are proof of what the universe is. We reflect it.
Also, look up Feynman as well. I don't think having watched Cosmos is having enough research in the philosophy of these guys to pick apart a music video based on them. Also, I hope that your diatribe at 5:19 isn't implying that you do understand completely some spiritual truth.
@MysterEy1 But we have no idea what happened yet. Random or not. We have a few ideas but that's it. Just because you don't like the sound of it doesn't mean it's untrue. To claim you understand some fundamental metaphysical truth without empirical evidence is just wishful thinking. Unless you realize, yourself, that people who offer such explanations are wrong, in which case, you'd be a fraud.
@MysterEy1 Well, following the universal singularity theorem, or more specifically the Big Bang theory, all matter was struck off, like striking the white ball on a pool table with a cue. We're still unsure as to what was holding the cue, but basically all particles came out from this. It may seem random since we didn't know what would happen when the cue struck but since that happened, since then, all matter has moved a predetermined path. But none of us can pretend to know what this path is.
Science is about observation. The interpretation is up to you!!
First admit you must admit that you know nothing before gaining true knowledge.
Humble yourself to the awesomeness of nature. That is what the video Symphony of Science is about. You don't have all the answers. Nobody has all the answers! You are biased against science. Guess what? Science is a method. People do it. Its like chess or painting. Get over it.
I agree with what you just said, but I do not agree that it has anything to do with me. I did not do any of that. I accept that it is part of the premise of the video. But the rest of it is debatable.
I wanted to say that EVERYONE misses truth because we have limited perception. I think Sagan was pointing out the reality of what has been discovered through Science and how amazing that is. His comments were more intuitive. By the way, nobody said anything was random! I think that is an assumption you are running with, that science assumes things happen randomly, I think that what he meant was quite the opposite... and brilliance or genius is relative :P Anyway, good will to you borther!
You know what, gently caress your stupid hat, gently caress your stupid hat, and gently caress your self-important ramblings upon things of which you know not.
Also, 688 does not equal 5,000. STOP WITH THE LIES!!
If you don't think science has a grasp on reality, turn off your computer. Because science created it, so it must not work. It would do the whole world a lot of good.
If the Universe (God, Cosmos, etc.) is all that exists (space, time, matter, thought) then the Universe is a closed system.
The only way a closed system can know or learn about itself is through introspection.
As a part of the Universe, we are part of that understanding. I believe that this is what Sagan was saying...though he couldn't articulate it in a way that he didn't look like a nut to the general public. Baby steps brother.
Advice if that's okay, don't be so defensive...just share.
I had a nice long post but it wont fit, so ill just say this. I am religious, and you are an idiot. The things you say about these great men, Sagan specifically, are retarded and should be taken with a grain of sand and a half a bottle of whiskey, which you need to lay off of.
One of the most terrifyingly meaningless stream of consciousness I have ever lost time upon. You are saying nothing. Absolutely nothing. You have also done nothing but achieved isolation from what you must consider the Descartian herd, simply for no other reason than to prevent your very openly ridiculous perspective on the world from being challenged. In short, this vlog, this comment, this subject are little more than an amazing waste of everybody's time, perpetuated by a lonely man.
perpetuated by a lonely man. perpetuated by a lonely man. perpetuated by a lonely man. perpetuated by a lonely man. perpetuated by a lonely man. perpetuated by a lonely man. perpetuated by a lonely man. perpetuated by a lonely man.
And way to compare yourself to Einstein; your narcissism is self evident. By justifying your "ancient wisdom" with persecution by your peers, you scream the limitation of your own education. Thanks for vomiting the "truth" all over the web zealot boy.
Specious loquacious diatribes. Instead, why don't you profess how god created the world in a matter of days, or continue your nuanced rant about the magniloquence of who is it, yourself or the god you know exists. You sure KNOW a lot don't you? Oh, please inform us of what dark matter is, from your own extensive experience in astrophysics. People like Carl Sagan are acclaimed because they possess brilliant minds, not for claiming dark matter consists of thoughts, you f&%cking moron.
You question everyone that comments to you. You ask, who they are-calling you a dirty wizard? lol...good one btw. Well sir, I must ask you, who the hell YOU think YOU are in what you are saying. Einstein...uh, your comparing yourself to the likes of Einstein? Are you in touch with what people call the rational world where things that have been researched and proven actually stand for something as opposed to your "knowing" what dark matter is, and that we don't even consider it? Consider What?
Enough bagging on Carl Sagan!!! He has accomplished soooo much in his life...has inspired millions, and 13 years after his passing, is STILL inspiring.
What does anyone being a twinkle in their daddy's eye have anything to do with your watching the Cosmos. You either weren't listening when you were watching the Cosmos or you have done some great drugs since then because your argument is full of nothing but weird irrational claims that very intelligent people are calling ridiculous and moronic.
I have to agree with Towelietowel. No one considers what? Considers what you KNOW to be true? You must see how that just looks foolish. Astrology means nothing in science. The stars position when you were born is not the same as when Astrology was invented. So, your not the sign you think you are........Whooooooaaaaaa......Trippppyyyyyyyy Maaaannnnnnnnn
It's VERY hard to take you seriously when you claim to understand something that Carl Sagan and Bill Nye supposedly does not? Hmmmmm
You say that Dark Matter is "THOUGHT" and claim to be doing real science... Wow...
Why haven't you taken the James Randi Challenge? Oh wait, because you don't have an experiment to prove the existence of the metaphysical or supernatural. You're not a scientist.
I think that Physicality is the highest state of being in the Universe, because everything really is connected, every individual action shapes the future. YOUR every action shapes the future.
He has never referred to any thing he described as having a metaphysical existence, he only operated in the world of what he perceived as reality, how ever complicated it may become. Followed the scientific method and formed hypothesis.
I don't agree with the rude comments, but don't compare yourself to Einstein implied or directly. These people represent scientists who dedicated their lives throughout the centuries to eventually yield technology which you obviously cherish.
Thanks for the firm putdown. I'm sure you've extensively researched the biographies of Einstein, Darwin, Carnegie, Marx, etc. They went through the same exact. Appreciate your cooperation!
Ive actually have on hand every single carl sagan book and article and essay about his work and his life.
So no, while i don't have time to research every scientists life(I am a biology major myself and actually becoming a scientists myself), I did have time to research Dr. Sagans and he clearly states his method of thinking and his beliefs in all of his books and the rigorous standards of evidence that is the theme of every book he has published.
As stated previously Carl Sagan is simply describing the physical world with the current technology available. Often times in his books he says there is so much beauty of the universe.. so many things we don't understand, so many things waiting to be discovered.. he doesn't understand why people even start attempting the spiritual/superstition journey.
We can be seen as many ways, when he says WE he is aligning himself with something greater then the individual mind. He is saying he is apart of the universe in an atomic sense. The carbon atoms in your body were once a part of a massive sun that, through nuclear fusion, formed from lighter elements. It eventually exploded and the "star dust" through gravitational forces pulled its self together and eventually compacted into the earth, with most of the elements we see today.
I'm going to assume you are a logical person, because like myself you speak the English language which requires logic to process nouns, verbs, adverbs etc into full fledged sentences to communicate what your thoughts.
"Science is not what you think. It has far to go."
Science is KNOWLEDGE as defined in the English dictionary. So in my case it is what I think. Second off, thanks for explaining the obvious, it has a lot to go. As long as humans exist, knowledge will only accumulate further.
you miss the point because you think that people, or consciousness are on some sort of other plane of existence? If we are apart of the universe, and we come to know the universe, than the universe is coming to know itself, it's a rather simple idea. We are the highest form of complexity we know of through the natural tenancies of matter in our universe. Why don't you admire the beauty in that? makes me sad.
your smoke a lot of dope dont you, your entire video makes no point what so ever. Making a video on youtube doesnt make you comparable to any scientist. you know the difference between you and them, they publish papers they get other scientist to review their papers. To put it simply, you claim to be something your not, you fail hard at life, and should go kill yourself
Carl Sagan presents reality as suggested by current data. Do you have something better? Also you got the COSMOS date a bit wrong (Sept. 1980) and also the "lyrics" wrong. How about some of that research you spoke of, hmmm?
7:35 You're being speciesist. Also you're assuming (without evidence) that consciousness is something other than material in nature. Got evidence?
There's nothing "ambiguous", you just got the lyric wrong- and the lyric itself was a truncated quote from COSMOS.
You totally went off the rails at 8:22 . You're the one who doesn't know what Carl (or you) are talking about:
"Across the sea of space
The stars are other suns
We have traveled this way before"
He was comparing things like Voyager, Viking, Pioneer, Apollo to the earlier mariners like Magellan.
Romantics may interpret this as stardust become sentient, making it's way out into the Cosmos once again- this time with intention and under its own direction.
Ok so, here is something that carl sagan doesnt understand, ill agree. but you do? im interested in having an intelligent debate with you sir, i dont think your capable, but lets try. you present no logic what soever. all you say is "this is my opinion, see?! see?1 im right!" you are sitting around saying you are brilliant, well who are you? you are a human being, an assinign one for that matter, and you need a reality check. at least the cosmos was educational.
What. the. hell.?! are you incapable of having a complete thought? you didnt make one point, not even invalid points, not one point in this whole video. you showed that you can speak, and use words that you have heard but for fuck sake, if youre going to take the time to put this shit on the internet at least develope the ability to make a point! you certainly proved that idiots can use cameras... thats all. read a book. read two. you can criticize no one with that "mind" of yours. i boycott you
Modern sciences are based on observation and widely accepted methods by the majority of people, if you're looking for something more then keep it to yourself, because shoving some information like this into someone is obviously not going to go down well. I not saying it's complete crap, but at the same time you shouldn't factor in so much.I am indian by the way...lol...sacred cow.
We are hydrogen atoms, smashed together in stars to make more complex atoms, that coalesced to form earth, that used the energy from the sun to make more complex molecules that self-replicated. These organisms made all the oxygen we breathe and the soil we stand on. They evolved into complex plants animals fungi et al. And us.
So now things made from hydrogen atoms (us) look at the universe (largly hydrogen) and try to know it.
We are made of atoms that once were hydrogen. Stella fusion and supernovae made all larger atoms (aside froma very little helium) so we're made of stuff that was made in stars.
We've been here before: analogy
The atoms we're made of have sailed across space, and almost everything in the solar system was here at its formation. We have been here all along.
@Teloculos and you. i like you. you seriously made a valid point here. im sure this self inflating fool will completely ignore it tho, in favor of his astrology and mystical sciences that he apparently know so much about but can never go into detail about. :)
not sure about 'dirty' wizard, more like a wizard in Fear and Loathing...but whether or not I think you look cool is immaterial. Unfortuntely, your argument is illogical and vague.
Want is wrong in being against mysticism, metaphysicals, religion, ancient science (philosophy) and astrology?
If it can be shown that they are incorrect surely an incorrect belief system should be discarded for a more accurate one.
Thats why we went from religion to philosophy to science. From astrology to astronomy
You criticize well respected scientists and then have the gall to be defensive when you are criticized. A fair amount of it was based on the presentation and coherence (or lack of it) of the *content* of your criticisms of those scientists. I find your ramblings to be self-indulgent attempts to elevate yourself far beyond your intellectual capacity. You've set yourself up in an "Emperor's New Clothes" scenario and attack those who refuse to acknowledge the fantasy wardrobe.
This is a lot of self preening. I mean, yeah, I'll listen to what you have to say. But there is no sense of authority being given to your statements by alluding to your own intellectual sensibilities, thoroughness, or depth. Yes, obviously perspective comes from inquiry and exposure. But logic carries weight only through it's coherence. Not by repeating in many different ways, exactly how coherent it is, and why. What is logical and sensible speaks for itself.
I think it's good to criticize and think the way you do and I'm with you on the point that it's stupid that people make comments about your looks... Although it might just be for the fun of it... =) no need to take that very serious.
oh wow hes meaning the atoms inside us, they were around a long time ago. if you cant get that your an idiot and if he doesn't know what he is talking about, why tell me why he had his own TV series, and why he had numerous university degrees? what degrees do you have? why is your thinking superior to theirs? and please explain to us would you please, how our thought becomes what the call anti matter? really how does that happen, show us your logic behind that?
There should be a dictionary published with a picture of you next to the word 'vague'.
Make a valid point that someone can actually debate about!! If you have no actual points then why shouldn't people leave comments calling you a dirty wizard......... or a filthy warlock for that matter.
Just a bit of criticism. I watched a few of your videos and a lot of the time it is very difficult to follow what you are talking about. You seem to drift about without having your thoughts in order. If you want to get through to more people I would recommend writing out scripts ahead of time. Because it seems like you are just winging it most of the time.
The line was "We traveled this way before", its talking about leaving the earth into the cosmos which the atoms that made us came from.
"Morse code uses a standardized sequence of short and long elements to represent the letters, numerals, punctuation and special characters of a given message. The short and long elements can be formed by sounds, marks, or pulses, in on off keying and are commonly known as "dots" and "dashes" or "dits" and "dahs". The speed of Morse code is measured in words per minute (WPM) or characters per minute."

JayDee98765 9 months ago
Hey,
First off, I'm sorry.. but I'm not a fan of your videos.. Just my opinion.
x1plus1x 9 months ago
Also, i feel you are mssing something yourself, the fact that lifeless atoms (molecules, incidentally, do not have a continuous existance through time) are able to come together in such a way as to create life and intelligence (we cannot yet derive consciousness from basic physical laws. However, something as simple as a head trauma shows that the personality and "soul" is a product of biochmistry) is precisely where the wonder in Sagan's philosophy comes from.
MrRiamu 10 months ago
i would stronglly suggest reading Sagan's Cosmos, as a companion to the television series. his comment on us having been here before, was actually a reference to human history and development- likening space exploration to the expansion to the voyages europeans made to america.
MrRiamu 10 months ago
Thanks for clarifing your first video. Sagan's statement is very clear. We are made of atoms that have been through up to 3 stars. And yes, through random processess, plus natural selection, the human brain has evolved, and that brain can contemplate the cosmos. To me, that is most profound and thrilling. Some people may think that some unseen hand directed it all. I do not. Nor did Sagan. He (and most of the other scientists) are atheists. That is what makes it so awe inspiring to us.

The only thing that is certain is the person is prolific.
nlp3000 1 year ago
I find your criticism of Sagan's final comments in the music video to be quite speculative as we are watching a small snippet of a larger monologue in which he may well have clarified the meaning of that statement. All that aside, Carl Sagan was not necessarily the most brilliant astronomer to have graced the face of the earth, but he was highly adept at engaging people with the science of astronomy, as well as the scientific virtues of critical thinking and experimentation that accompany it.

ChrisFreely78 2 years ago
So why don't you understand? Its probably (I guess) because you haven't read any of the alternative theories to the Big Bang that I have. I've read just about all of them and understand both sets of theories extremely well. I'm not sure what your background is, but make a video or something with your case and we can trade comments back and forth. Do I know what you understand? Not till you prove it to me. If you are serious you can start with, why do you think the Big Bang happened?

No good scientist is "against" anything. Here, I'll quote one of Sagan's" cronies" (though in truth no one of these men was any better or any more of a leader than the others...).
"It is scientific only to say what is more likely and what less likely, and not to be proving all the time the possible and impossible"
I would say that ideas present by mysticism are incredibly unlikely, supported with no concrete evidence, and can thus be set aside with religion as non-scientific avenues of faith.
KazigluTepes 2 years ago
So some guy comments on this video saying no good scientist is against anything. Really? Are we against the idea that the Earth is flat? I think so. Evidence for something automatically precludes the existence of something else if it is diametrically opposed. You cannot both be for the Big Bang and against it. You are either for or against it. Science is no more special than any other branch of human knowledge.
ChrisFreely78 2 years ago
Scientists are for some things and against others. Carl Sagan is definetly for his theory and against the theory that the Earth was created 6000 years ago by the bearded geezer. You see, good scientists are against ideas. That's science. You lie by saying they aren't because they argue against it!

You say after talking about it for 3 minutes you won't touch on your hygiene. And you claim others are stupid?

No, what Carl Sagan meant when he said that we are "made of star stuff" and then goes on to say "we are a way to look at the Cosmos"
He means that because we are senitent, intelligent creatures now these atoms can now look at themselves, observe, learn etc

BlackCladGolbez 2 years ago
Well that's what I take from it on the surface. But he is implying a lot more. And that is the part that i don't agree with. The "randomness"
MysterEy1 2 years ago
@MysterEy1 But we have no idea what happened yet. Random or not. We have a few ideas but that's it. Just because you don't like the sound of it doesn't mean it's untrue. To claim you understand some fundamental metaphysical truth without empirical evidence is just wishful thinking. Unless you realize, yourself, that people who offer such explanations are wrong, in which case, you'd be a fraud.
BlackCladGolbez 2 years ago
Of course no one in their right mind would want to be a "fraud"
But let's get back to this empirical method... because I really cannot stand "randomness" as an excuse for anything.
MysterEy1 2 years ago
@MysterEy1 Well, following the universal singularity theorem, or more specifically the Big Bang theory, all matter was struck off, like striking the white ball on a pool table with a cue. We're still unsure as to what was holding the cue, but basically all particles came out from this. It may seem random since we didn't know what would happen when the cue struck but since that happened, since then, all matter has moved a predetermined path. But none of us can pretend to know what this path is.
BlackCladGolbez 2 years ago
Science is about observation. The interpretation is up to you!!
First admit you must admit that you know nothing before gaining true knowledge.
Humble yourself to the awesomeness of nature. That is what the video Symphony of Science is about. You don't have all the answers. Nobody has all the answers! You are biased against science. Guess what? Science is a method. People do it. Its like chess or painting. Get over it.

I wanted to say that EVERYONE misses truth because we have limited perception. I think Sagan was pointing out the reality of what has been discovered through Science and how amazing that is.

48Donbray 2 years ago
I have to agree with Towelietowel. No one considers what? Considers what you KNOW to be true? You must see how that just looks foolish. Astrology means nothing in science. The stars position when you were born is not the same as when Astrology was invented. So, your not the sign you think you are........Whooooooaaaaaa......Trippppyyyyyyyy Maaaannnnnnnnn
It's VERY hard to take you seriously when you claim to understand something that Carl Sagan and Bill Nye supposedly does not? Hmmmmm
48Donbray 2 years ago
You say that Dark Matter is "THOUGHT" and claim to be doing real science... Wow...
Why haven't you taken the James Randi Challenge? Oh wait, because you don't have an experiment to prove the existence of the metaphysical or supernatural. You're not a scientist.
I think that Physicality is the highest state of being in the Universe, because everything really is connected, every individual action shapes the future. YOUR every action shapes the future.
F the ineffable.
Towelietowel 2 years ago
He has never referred to any thing he described as having a metaphysical existence, he only operated in the world of what he perceived as reality, how ever complicated it may become. Followed the scientific method and formed hypothesis.
I don't agree with the rude comments, but don't compare yourself to Einstein implied or directly. These people represent scientists who dedicated their lives throughout the centuries to eventually yield technology which you obviously cherish.
Earn your voice.

Thanks for the firm putdown. I'm sure you've extensively researched the biographies of Einstein, Darwin, Carnegie, Marx, etc. They went through the same exact. Appreciate your cooperation!

@1000You2b0001
YugoRokPhi 1 year ago
As stated previously Carl Sagan is simply describing the physical world with the current technology available. Often times in his books he says there is so much beauty of the universe.. so many things we don't understand, so many things waiting to be discovered.. he doesn't understand why people even start attempting the spiritual/superstition journey.
YugoRokPhi 2 years ago
We can be seen as many ways, when he says WE he is aligning himself with something greater then the individual mind. He is saying he is apart of the universe in an atomic sense. The carbon atoms in your body were once a part of a massive sun that, through nuclear fusion, formed from lighter elements. It eventually exploded and the "star dust" through gravitational forces pulled its self together and eventually compacted into the earth, with most of the elements we see today.
YugoRokPhi 2 years ago
I'm going to assume you are a logical person, because like myself you speak the English language which requires logic to process nouns, verbs, adverbs etc into full fledged sentences to communicate what your thoughts.
"Science is not what you think. It has far to go."
Science is KNOWLEDGE as defined in the English dictionary. So in my case it is what I think. Second off, thanks for explaining the obvious, it has a lot to go. As long as humans exist, knowledge will only accumulate further.
YugoRokPhi 2 years ago
you miss the point because you think that people, or consciousness are on some sort of other plane of existence? If we are apart of the universe, and we come to know the universe, than the universe is coming to know itself, it's a rather simple idea. We are the highest form of complexity we know of through the natural tenancies of matter in our universe. Why don't you admire the beauty in that? makes me sad.
RobP3ZXT 2 years ago
I admire the beauty, despite your sweeping assumptions.
BTW you're describing "anthropromorphism" in case you didn't know. That "man is the measure of all things"
1000You2b0001 2 years ago
your smoke a lot of dope dont you, your entire video makes no point what so ever.

SaganAppreciationSoc 2 years ago
You totally went off the rails at 8:22 . You're the one who doesn't know what Carl (or you) are talking about:
"Across the sea of space
The stars are other suns
We have traveled this way before"
He was comparing things like Voyager, Viking, Pioneer, Apollo to the earlier mariners like Magellan.
Romantics may interpret this as stardust become sentient, making it's way out into the Cosmos once again- this time with intention and under its own direction.

Fail.

Krandolph17 2 years ago
What. the. hell.?! are you incapable of having a complete thought? you didnt make one point, not even invalid points, not one point in this whole video. you showed that you can speak, and use words that you have heard but for fuck sake, if youre going to take the time to put this shit on the internet at least develope the ability to make a point! you certainly proved that idiots can use cameras... thats all. read a book. read two. you can criticize no one with that "mind" of yours. i boycott you
Krandolph17 2 years ago
Modern sciences are based on observation and widely accepted methods by the majority of people, if you're looking for something more then keep it to yourself, because shoving some information like this into someone is obviously not going to go down well. I not saying it's complete crap, but at the same time you shouldn't factor in so much.I am indian by the way...lol...sacred cow.

'We are a way for the Cosmos to know itself'
We are hydrogen atoms, smashed together in stars to make more complex atoms, that coalesced to form earth, that used the energy from the sun to make more complex molecules that self-replicated. These organisms made all the oxygen we breathe and the soil we stand on. They evolved into complex plants animals fungi et al. And us.
So now things made from hydrogen atoms (us) look at the universe (largly hydrogen) and try to know it.
Another analogy see
Teloculos 2 years ago
What's ambiguous?
We're made of star-stuff: truth:
We are made of atoms that once were hydrogen. Stella fusion and supernovae made all larger atoms (aside froma very little helium) so we're made of stuff that was made in stars.
We've been here before: analogy
The atoms we're made of have sailed across space, and almost everything in the solar system was here at its formation. We have been here all along.
They are analogies not be be taken literally.
This is a problem with believers and fundies
Teloculos 2 years ago
@Teloculos and you. i like you. you seriously made a valid point here. im sure this self inflating fool will completely ignore it tho, in favor of his astrology and mystical sciences that he apparently know so much about but can never go into detail about. :)
Krandolph17 2 years ago
not sure about 'dirty' wizard, more like a wizard in Fear and Loathing...but whether or not I think you look cool is immaterial.
Teloculos 2 years ago
You criticize well respected scientists and then have the gall to be defensive when you are criticized. A fair amount of it was based on the presentation and coherence (or lack of it) of the *content* of your criticisms of those scientists. I find your ramblings to be self-indulgent attempts to elevate yourself far beyond your intellectual capacity. You've set yourself up in an "Emperor's New Clothes" scenario and attack those who refuse to acknowledge the fantasy wardrobe.
JackAcid68 2 years ago
This is a lot of self preening. I mean, yeah, I'll listen to what you have to say. But there is no sense of authority being given to your statements by alluding to your own intellectual sensibilities, thoroughness, or depth. Yes, obviously perspective comes from inquiry and exposure. But logic carries weight only through it's coherence. Not by repeating in many different ways, exactly how coherent it is, and why. What is logical and sensible speaks for itself.
And no, I'm not an atheist.

That's an intelligent comment though.
You will admit I have an uphill struggle. nonetheless, the mission must be carried out.

I think it's good to criticize and think the way you do and I'm with you on the point that it's stupid that people make comments about your looks... Although it might just be for the fun of it... =) no need to take that very serious.
Keep it up!

Can the noodniks do that at least?

oh wow hes meaning the atoms inside us, they were around a long time ago. if you cant get that your an idiot and if he doesn't know what he is talking about, why tell me why he had his own TV series, and why he had numerous university degrees? what degrees do you have? why is your thinking superior to theirs? and please explain to us would you please, how our thought becomes what the call anti matter? really how does that happen, show us your logic behind that?

Eggchimpo, if I had the time I would check out your channel to see if you could be the judge of sharpness. Yet tat is doubtful.
Most of the negative comments are from losers who have nothing to offer. Just complaining because their Science Idols have been disturbed.

I can accept that. But the vlogs are spontaneously done it seems. That is their style.

Back in the day, they had to remember the codes.
