  • you came for 4:47, you're welcome

  • One day, maybe a year from now, I will FC this keyboard solo. I've always wanted to find the RB3 equivalent of Solfeggietto. I may have to use two hands for it.

  • well ill take dream theaters mediocre vocals over a band that uses the same vocals for every song with different words. Besides there other prog bands....with the notes that herman li makes on his guitar its safe to say he can do his own solo prog band lol

  • Andromeda > Dream Theater

  • @KingLewi992 Not even close. Jordan Rudess can play way faster than this keyboardist and his playing doesn't sound like shit the same can't be said here. As for guitar John Petrucci makes the guitarist look like Justin Bieber.

  • @SyzzleSH Oh geez not another DT fanboy who thinks Prog metal revolves only around DT. DT's music has lately gone stale since the early 2000s. Andromeda has a more atmospheric sound to them, and as for rudess it's not about "playing faster". Martin here and even Kevin Moore had tastier solos and composing skills then Rudess. So I dunno who is "shit" here. And as for Petrucci, Johan here could EASILY give Petrucci a run for his money.

  • @Tunaan360 DT's music stale? Nice joke you're just another idiot who thinks he knows music when he doesn't. Kevin Moore's solos don't even come close to being as good as Jordan's which is why he is currently the best keyboardist alive. There is no guitarist out there that can give Petrucci a run for his money. He is one of the very few guitarists in the world who has all 3 aspects of what it takes to be a great guitarist and I can already tell this guitarist isn't one of them.

  • @SyzzleSH yeah right dickhead. Ask any prog metal fan they would argue that DT's music has gone shite the last few albums. Moore's solo have more melodic soul to it then rudess doing arppegios at 100mph. And any professional classical pianist would destroy rudess in technique, I would know because I'm a pianist. And you're saying no one in the 6 billion population of the earth could give face petrucci? you're just deluded rudess/petrucci cocksucker who is a disgrace amongst DT fans.

  • @Tunaan360 Any prog metal fan that says their music is stale doesn't know shit about music. Again Moore's solo's don't even come close to Rudess's if you think that you have no idea what you're talking about. And Petrucci is obviously the best it's not even a competition anymore.

  • @SyzzleSH "Petrucci is obviously the best it's not even a competition anymore"

Well that sums it up. You're too closed minded. And their music has been the same progression adding more technical wankery over it.

  • @SyzzleSH "Any prog metal fan that says their music is stale doesn't know shit about music" Do you have a degree in Music Theory? Music Composition? No? Well as someone who's a music teacher and has a music theory degree I can say it's severely stale.

Not to mention most music majors on the Portnoy and Petrucci forums have felt the same way for the past 6 years. Hell the majority of those boards haven't even largely been DT fans since Systematic Chaos when everything hit the shitter.

  • @SyzzleSH Also to make it clear what I mean by stale. Yes their technical playing is the best it's ever been, but their songwriting has essentially just been rehashing their past works, or other bands past works ever since Octavarium.

Compare that to bands/writers like Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree, Daniel Gildenlow of Pain of Salvation, and Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth who are actually trying new things. There's a reason why most older prog fans have gone away from DT.

  • I would love to see someone try to play the regular keys part on a guitar. I tried it for laughs and ended up with a 30% or something. I think thats mostly just because I mashed the buttons and strummed like crazy.

  • piano is way the fuck harder

  • The real problem is, I highly doubt the keyboardist can play at 24NPS. Highly.

  • Son of a BITCH that's hard!

  • i will master the pro keys on expert one day! yeah right? what am i talking about.. ill do it on hard and hope for the best.

  • *guitar solo comes in*

    Ok, shit gets serious now

    *keyboard chart shows solo start*

Ok, shit gets REAL serious now

    *keyboard solo actually starts*

    ...WHAT? THE? HELL? WAS? THAT?!

  • lol I was wondering why u compared this key chart to "Veil of Illumination"... I mean, it IS hard, but not impossible.... but that was before i saw 4:47

  • Chuck Norris FCed both parts of this duel...at the same time.

  • I was wondering for ages which RBN song it was that had the batshit insane keys part. Looks like now I know.

  • So SoundDefenseRB you NEED to try getting SOULESS 1,2 and 3 in the game!!!

  • fuck u

  • Wait... if you work for Rhythm Authors, then you have access to RBN playtesting, so you should be able to used autoplay...

  • @SatansBestBuddy1 Harmonix doesn't like people making videos of raw RBN materials in Audition Mode. Doesn't seem to deter most people but this is fine for me.

  • Oh keys look like a good time! :D

    *Solo*

    0___o

  • does anyone even playtest the keys part? I can't see why these key parts are ok. That part is obviously humanly impossible to play with one hand, and it sounds like the whole part is created by a computer. *shrugs* guess i'll continue to stay away from RBN *sigh

  • @ProffessorJoe Harmonix looked at the song and they gave the keys solo the okay. And the part was played by a human, if you can call him that.

  • @ProffessorJoe

    That's what Hard is for!

  • @ProffessorJoe Andromeda has a human keyboardist. Also, why should a few over the top hard keys charts warrant staying away from RBN completely?

  • @094176 Lol i'd love to see how he plays that part on veil of illumination. I've just seen nothing but terrible charts come out of RBN (not to mention it takes forever to sort through the bad songs to find good ones) Thats not to say i won't buy RBN at all, i just generally stay away from it.

  • @ProffessorJoe You're missing out on tons of great songs. Some charts aren't great, sure, but there's a lot that are. You can pretty much expect everything from RA and RGS to be good.

  • @Confury Sorry but RA charts are ones i'm hating most for drums =/

  • @ProffessorJoe Clearly you haven't been looking at many of the RBN charts at all. A good 95 percent are decent songs charted just fine. It's sad that all you can do is focus on the bad, and not look at any of the good.

  • @094176 I watch RBN vids all the time. Almost every day. I always watch SoundDefense's vids and i have others i'm subscribed to that upload RBN vids also. As i said before i do buy RBN stuff, i just would buy a lot more if the charts weren't so "by the book" (and if the songs were better, but blah blah opinions blah blah)

  • @ProffessorJoe I'm not sure what you mean when you say "by the book"

  • @094176 The charts are generally handled in a "in this situation you do this" guidelined kind of way, if that makes sense. Notice that basically all quad fills are fully charted, even if they are double bass, and notice that there is a set speed that is allowed for constant bass pedal. The charters just basically follow the guidelines and that works for the most part, but the best charts are the ones that are changed to make it fun. This keys chart was clearly not done that way

  • @ProffessorJoe This is one keys chart though. Not to mention, that although I agree that charting based on accuracy without attention to fun is not the way to go, that doesn't make for a bunch of /terrible/ charts. It just makes for charts that aren't as fun as they could be. Even then though, there aren't enough songs like that to warrant most of them being too accurate in sacrifice for fun. Either 1: You're don't look at as many charts as you say you do or 2: your standards are far too high.

  • @ProffessorJoe the Andromeda songs were special cases where we decided to go all-out due to the sheer epicness, plus we really weren't sure how else to handle the solos without them looking undercharted and stupid. In pretty much every other song I do, I consider enjoyability and playability when charting the keys, and I will omit things if I feel they make the chart stupid and unfun.

  • what is it with andromeda and being hard?! :p

  • Skip to 4:47 for epicness.
