i m so happy for her , i dont know when i m going to be able to do that , this is very good video, i wish i could learn , i lost many people because i cant swim and they left me , but i keep tryin, respect for the upload
this was so nice to see as someone who has never met any nonswimmers like myself. it was good to hear at the end the success stories..really inspires me to learn to swim..Thanks for the video great job!
Heck, I'm fiftysomething and I'm learning now. I'm not afraid of the water, but I am creeped out by floating on my back. Weird, huh? I just need to know technique. I've met people older than me who can't swim, so a lot of people can't. My mom can tred water but can't get the breathing, I'm better at the breathing. I think the most important thing is to relax.
I was 21 when I entered a summer lesson for swimming...i paid for an personal adult swimming lesson, once i was on the pool area,i saw a bunch of kids,i argue with the trainer, and he said its fine, and he asked me to get on the water, i was so ashamed, i packed my things and left..as the other parents of the kids stare at me..i felt like i wanted to melt.. for thereon, i never stepped in the pool anymore, now, im 28, i watched this videos,i envy all of them...
@wangbungal You know, I did exactly what you did. Only I was about 15, and now I want to learn how to swim so bad because next year I am enrolling in Army ROTC. I kinda need to learn anyhow.
TY for posting this inspiring video. Makes me feel so much better knowing many other adults can't swim. I just went to my 2nd adult lesson today. Like Amanda, I will feel so proud when I can swim from one end to the other. I have trouble as well when it comes to putting everything together such as breathing, leg and arm movements. I have 5 sessions left & am so determined! I get embarrassed at times w/ the other kids & adults in the pool and the lifeguards watchin but I'm doing it for my girls!
Adult swimming lessons are offered for a price at the local leisure centres. Ring them up and find out. I learnt the basics when I was a child but have a fear of drowning/being in the deep end. These lessons are helping to increase my confidence.i want to show my kids that I can swim like they can. Deadislandtrailers-you should get out there again and start swimming. You will find it really lifts your spirits and you feel really good about yourself for doing it.
it is very nice and informative in sense that adult have still chance to learn swimming. i'm now 29 and wish to swim in deep water. please can any suggest where adult can learn swim in uk. thanks
I'm 19 Im going to be taking private swimming lessons then eventually group sessions when I get the foundations downpacked. I do feel easy embarrassed by things I can't do but I've to tried to teach myself to swim several times and It hasnt worked. I would like to do triathalon races but I cant swim.
I don't actually have a fear of the water - I am really uncomfortable with floating or the lack of it. I am 43 years old and I do not feel complete without learning how to swim properly. This is why I took the first step to take charge of my life and signed up for swim lessons. I done want to feel awkward or embarrassed about not being able to float. We all have different body types but should still be able to float. Correct me if I'm wrong, floating will carry you through the next phase. Conq
I plan on joining the Navy. But i dont want to join until i know how to swim. I am terrified of drowning. I have MAJOR trust issues when it comes to learning to swim. I dont trust my parents to teach me because they joked around too much. I really want to learn. But i want to learn with someone i trust. Like my sister, but even she doesnt know how to swim. So i dont know what to do. And she has the same trust issue
I had a bad experience when I was five years old and since then, I have been extremely afraid to venture out in the deep end of swimming pools. I have had it with being the one person everyone giggles about because I am 20 and there are children out there swimming like pros. My friends like to swim and I often just sit around and watch them. I want to learn the proper form and everything because I just look really goofy in the water and I just want to feel more confident with myself. =0
I'm 21 and I start adult swimming lessons next week. I'm very nervous but excited to accomplish this task that your students are shown doing in this video. At first I was embarrassed, and I'm sure I will still be the first day of class, but I know when I'm able to swim my first lap across the pool it will be well worth it!
I like this video because my mom was exactly swimming the same way 2 and 1/2 years ago. Now she can swim 40-50 minutes without taking a break. Best policy? Keep practicing!
I'm much like Scott in this video. I'd go into more detail of what I did, but 500 chars is limiting. The key is, what is the simplest thing you cannot do and what would it take to get you comfortable? For me, I just needed to get underwater first. I personally needed a snorkel because I felt I needed to know I had an air supply. Once I was comfortable with that, I moved on to the next step and let go of my nose underwater. For 33 years I've said otherwise but recently I can say: "It CAN be done"
Nice Video ... but For a Video Titled as" Adults learn to swim "it doesnt really teaches you how to swim but only motivates you , which is good in a way but not when you are searching videos so you can get started !
@garylamba1 hey there, FYI you're not going to learn how to swim by watching a video. . .or a hundred videos, you're gonna have to get in the water ;) same with any sport. video can offer motivation or tips but the only way to learn is to do it. thanks for the comment!
I'm almost 30 and I don't know how to swim (at all). I'd like to learn, but I wonder how much time and effort that would take. I understand this probably varies from person to person, but some indication would be welcome.
@covidiu it will only take as long as you have patience :) some things are worth the work and there's always more to learn. . . so nothing left to do now but to get started. thanks for the comment!
@covidiu I'm 49 and took up swimming almost a year ago. It was the hardest thing I've ever done, and I"ve benched press 420 in competition and ran a 4:17 marathon. it is a lot like playing an instrument. I've played guitar for 30 years also. You will have to love it to achieve it. As you are learning, appreciate the cardio benefits you are getting. 2 hours minimum in the pool every week. Let me know if I can help.
Thank you so much for this video, this video really encouraged me bout swimming I am so ashamed and regret that I am 21 years old and I don't know how to swim. Thank you. I appreciate.
@TheEva4ever The first thing to remember is that there is no reason to be ashamed. Being scared or intimidated is normal but we all grow up differently and it's never too late to learn something new. So get out there and start swimming - you'll be glad you did!
@TheEva4ever Please! There is no reason to be ashamed of that!! I took swimming lessons and I still did not know how to swim after! I intend to give it another try.
I'm only 12 years old and I been feeling stupid for not being able to swim. But now that I saw this video, I feel a lot better to know there are people a lot older then me who don't know how to swim. I also don't know how to tie shoes ( I am learning though) and I don't know how to ride a bike.

How do you learn to swim at age 23 if you're deathly afraid of things like pool drains, black lines at the bottom, and can't bear the thought to be under the water with those things no matter where they may be LOL I'm serious here too.
@heyheyhey489 heyheyhey. . . everyone in this video was scared, some more than others obviously, but they all had a lot to overcome to learn to swim. just a matter of taking it a little at a time but keep pushing yourself. you should be proud that you're even talking about it! that's the first step. let us know how it goes!
I find this video very inspiring. I can swim, but not tremendously well. I will be going to swim twice a week. I have already gone twice last week. This is a great video. My problems are that I, too, had a traumatic experience with water when I went white water rafting. I had dove from 10 feet in the air into 40 ft of water. I could swim, but the fatigue from the rafting made my muscles give way. I started drowning. Since then, I swim but flail my muscles to get out of water asap.
@atom11220 hey there, thanks for the comment. Amanda was the same way with the fear and just kept at it. Have you been going twice a week? Glad you liked the vid and thanks for the comment!
I'm 24, I grew up in Beijing, but been living in Sydney, Australia for the past 7 years. It's not too hard being unable to swim in Beijing, but in Australia, it's an assumed skill. Years ago as a boy, I tried to learn how to do breaststroke, and water went down the wrong way, so I got frightened of water, and did not attempt to learn swimming until now. I enrolled into an adult beginners' class, and while self conscious learning the basic skills while more skilled swimmers were in the next lane
I had to force myself to learn and to practice the basics, because if I don't start in the beginning, I'll never get anywhere. And in just 2 lessons, I'm amazed by how far I've gone. Now I can kick and use my hands; I will still need to learn breathing, but that shouldn't be too far away.
Awesome vid..i just turned 26 and I dont know how to swim. I have trouble floating and can do a bit of a doggy paddle. I'm looking into swimming lessons and really want to learn. I love water. This video really helped me address some fears and gave me hope. My goal is to be able to swim and possibly do a triathlon by my 27th birthday...thanks for posting this video!
@mosesbernasconi glad you liked the vid and keep in mind that it's never too late to learn something great! swimming is so fun! i see a triathalon in your future!

Don't be embarassed everyone! I was enrolled in a basic swimming class when I was 10 and was too embarassed because I was bigger than everyone - now at 25, I'm kicking myself. Today I tried to learn doggy paddle with my dad among fish-like kids and a lifesaving class full of teenagers and people my age - I know I looked pretty dumb but who cares! I'm not willing to start from scratch when I'm even older. Plus I'm sure these strangers were proud of my progress as much as I was! Keep at it!
@adrenalynn22 that's an awesome story. Amanda was terrified to look bad for years and that's why she never really learned to swim. sometimes you gotta embrace the beginners role, forget about looking "good" and make it happen. like you said, people will be more proud of your courage and progress than anything else!
I watched this video before going to learn how to swim with my dad today! I'm 25 and can't float at all. I learned at my university but had a near drowning experience during a lesson but I'm determined to master it!! I wish they had interviewed a few people who are at the basic basic level because I'm not sure if all of these individuals would have progressed to being able to swim freely at the end of 5 weeks.
@angelfuree panic is the hardest thing for people to get over. for some of the folks in this film it took them the full 5 weeks just to learn to relax a little in the water, but that was a huge breakthrough for them. keep us posted if you go for lessons!
@angelfuree Floating is limited by body proportion (centre of gravity) & gender. You can still learn to swim... find an adults class! I teach infants thru to adults swimming in Australia and am always inspired by the courage shown by my students. The satisfaction of learning to face that fear and gain a wonderful skill will change your life!
@mysteriouscat100 you should talk to your doctor about that one. Let him/her know that you would like to learn to swim and ask if they have any recommendations or restrictions. thanks for the note!
@shilpashrenik stick with it!!! We're all proud of you for taking the step to take the class. The rest is just persistence, patience and practice! thanks for the note!
it took me more than two years to get over the fear of submerging my face in water,, found wearing googles really helped,,,i can do it now but still dont like to do it much,,, can swim the crawl but after a certain time i start panicking again,,, i guess i havent got over it yet,,, will keep trying,,,
@llh629 I find relaxing in the water when swimming to be one of the most difficult parts. A friend once told me to breathe easy and imagine the water is holding you up and giving you a massage. It kinda works when I'm doing breast stroke but with the crawl I always get tired and a little panicky :) Thanks for the comment!
I'm 52, and have been a swimmer since I was about 5. I have a friend I've been reunited with from high school, and she never knew how to swim...this video will be great for her - thanks for posting.
O shit. Heres my story: I'm 35 y.o. guy who still scared to swim. Damet.
When I walk near the river in our local park, see those people who swim, I tell my self: Hey man, just go ahead, you can do it. But, that fear since when I been drown when I was a kid still inside me. I can actualy going under water and swim with mask but swimming for real I still can't do it. I wanna learn to swim so bad but I just don't know when.
@barracuda253 fear is the roughest, but the good part is that there's a cure. you just gotta face it, but get some help! lessons are great and as you can see from the video and the comments, there are a LOT of people in your same boat. no shame in being afraid. . .just time to get past it right?
And this video describes all what was happening to me in this week ...!
This is my first week of swimming ... And I managed to do the kicking thing ... but swimming is about how to balance the kicking with the strokes with the breathing ...!
@dianne34kris i'm 28 and can swim and i choked myself this morning in the shower so that happens to swimmers too. i learned to swim as a child so i don't know exactly what the ppl in the video are feeling but i remember what if felt like when i was learning. it was absolutely terrifying at first. i was convinced i was gonna drown. it took 3x as long for me to learn than all the other kids. learning to float was the hardest but when it finally happened it was an amazing feeling.
This makes me want to try swimming. I had a bad experience at a water park where I had to get pulled out by a lifeguard half my size. I'v been nervous ever since, I' m hoping one day I can manage the courage to swim like they do.
I'm freaking 19 and I had no doubt on my mind that I can swim. I used to swim in the sea for long distances but just today I went with my friends to an 3 meter deep pool, I jumped in thinking I'm a pro and I just drowned, I couldn't even stay afloat in the pool's water..I was so embarrassed but there's no giving up for me..I'm doing this or I'm gonna die doing it damn it!
Thanks for the words of encouragement! I started my first swimming lesson on yesterday and It's great to start overcoming my fear. My fear is the deep end. I'm 38 and I have 7 weeks to go. Thanks for this video........I hope this video encourages more adults to take the plunge plus I learned something new. The floating board will assist with helping me to perfect my form.
@praslisa all of the people in the video had a good reason to be afraid and all of them overcame it through courage and persistence. it's not easy but super rewarding!
It's encouraging, I am 39 and I can't swim....nearly drowned as a kid in Texas when a kid who was horsing around pushed me into the deep end and I had to be fished out while unconscious.
@pfunkyfize i hope the video gave you some confidence. Amanda was the same way and while she's not an olympic swimmer yet :) she's much more confident! Keep it up!
@janehambrick That's funny, I just signed up for lessons and I'm hoping to learn by July 30th! My friend's having a birthday party and I'm tired of being the only one who can't swim! Although, I'm probably not going to learn in the 10 days/ 20 min. sessions, signing up for lessons is a huge thing for me 'cause I've been telling myself this year is going to be the year I am going to learn--every year for the past 10 years! Good luck and remember to let yourself free of fear.
@onedancerinthedark22 ... I took the lesson at the local Y and now at least I can float and able to submerged my self without fear. one of these days, I'll swim without any noodle supporting my belly anymore :) Good luck to you too ... God Bles!
I have just started to learn how to swim... I need to improve on my kicking and floating. Funnily I'm very comfortable going under the water and swim out to the top.
@Cleopatra15 - everyone in this piece was scared of drowning too and none of them did while we were filming! lol. seriously though, it's that fear that keeps people from learning. go slow and get comfortable. the more comfortable you are, the better you'll do.
hey guys why dont you try ti swim total immersion swim. It's a great method , you can google it or check it out here.
It's great they teach you first how to feel comfortable in the water then the rest is just kind of simple. I love water and it changed my life. Good luck.
@bashomosko I'm actually still in lessons. I did a Fear of Swimming type lesson which was all about conquering fears. That was helpful, but my lessons now are teaching me strokes/breathing. I'm still not comfortable, and I'm DEFINITELY still afraid of deep water, but I'm making progress!
My instructor had us go to the deep end a few weeks ago. We had to walk along the wall until we ran out of floor & basically the deeper it got, the more we ended up hanging onto the wall! We actually jumped in the deep end using the Red Cross lifeguard floaty thing. It was fun believe it or not. You can do it!!!
Im40 and have tried all sorts of lessons and usually wind up nearly drowning. I love the water but I have to stay in the shllow or cling to the side. Kids laugh at me and it's so embarassing buut I just don't care, I still love the water even tho I'll never be able to swim.
thanks for this video it was really good listening to others experiences. i'm going to learn to swim this year (aim) and intend to commit 100% with my ultimate aim to swim a mile and be confident enough to swim in the sea.
im only 21 and although i know im definitely not the oldest person that doesnt know how to swim, its still embarrassing for me. my dream is to become a police officer and i must learn to swim for that, so im going to bite the bullet and do it when the time comes to apply for the police force
@drftgrl have you applied for the police force yet? and how's the swimming going? amanda in the video was too embarrassed too but she figured out that there are MUCH more important things than looking good :) how about her red swimcap???
I don't have an instructor yet, im trying things out on my own for now... The pool i go to always has a life guard on duty so i know im safe.
I was talking to my friend today and she told me the reason why my legs keep sinking is because of my posture, she said i should arch my back more... Whether or not it works i have no idea.
I live in NYC , actually near Columbia University. How do I contact the instructor featured in the video to get some swim lessons. Is that you, by the way?
I too am from NYC and was wondering if this program is still available. This peice is inspirational. I think I will learn, even if I have to do it on my own.
I am 34 and I had a near drowning experience in a pool in Jamaica about 10 months ago. Now I am scared. Is there a cut off age after which there is no point trying to learn?
It's never too late to learn and facing your fears is one of the biggest parts. If you can get comfortable in the water again that's the first step. Amanda from the video is 30 and has had a lot of near drowning experiences and still goes out there.
me to, i'm almost 46, and i've tried to learn many times. but i just sink, my legs really sink like rocks.
i can't even to the dead mans float. but treaded water once lol i was excited like a little kid. are you going to learn someday? i'd really like to but i've failed so many times, i think it's useless for me.
you should keep trying thou, don't give up, they say that humans are suppose to be natural swimmers if fear is not a factor
you leg sink to? this is crazy what did they tell you?
do you have an instructor or do you do this on your own? you should not do this on your own, no matter you age. i'm 45, and i wouldn't go near water without someone there that could rescue me.
if you have an instructor, can you find out why our legs sink?
@leaderOFlosers me too. i'm 24 and can't float lol I just begin to learn how to swim at a local gym($26/month membership). hope we all can float soon.
I just started adult lessons & basically, the key to floating is keeping your body in line. Front floats - face in the water helps; back floats - pushing your hips up & head as far back as possible helps me
@leaderOFlosers too sad i tought that too but i was 8 then and then my dad trew me into the water and i started floating and laughing...try to relax while in water don't think that you can drown think that you can float and you will float
@bashomosko i have a dumb question what are those 1ft boards they holding on to called i need one and have no clue what im looking for lol please let me know
@bluemew88888 they're called kickboards and awesome for beginners and pros alike. search kickboards on amazon and you'll find lots of options. thanks for writing!
i use to go swimming in school when i was young but that was the last time i swam, now i'm an adult and really need to learn how to swim !! damn its right what she said once u dnt know how to swim, thats it as an adult its really hard to learn
I am an adult and I just learned to swim in three months. I can forward crawl and do a backstroke. I tire easily and it will take several more months to loose weight and build my endurance but I'm swimming. I learned at my local Y and I am in my 30s. It was hard. So I came at it hard. I watched videos and practice 3x week. Loosing the fear and understanding how your body works in water comes with time and practice of technique. Don't give up!
good luck! i wish i had the courage to take lessons. i would not even know where to go since every swimming lesson i've seen is for kids. i almost drowned when i was younger which made me terrified of actually swimming or being pushed into a pool. =[ hopefully one day i will figure it out.
Try your local YMCA, that is where I'm going. I really want to learn because I LOVE the water! I enrolled into group swim lessons a few years ago and just could not get it! This time I'm taking personal lessons and I'm hoping to get the job done...
thanks for your support. i know you're right. i went this weekend with my kids they're 3 and 5. even my 3yr. old son swims better than me. he tells me just move your arms like this daddy. he has no fear. that's another reason i really want to learn. i feel like my kids are missing out when they see other kids and their daddy's taking them to the deep end. makes me sad. i don't even know how this phobia started. i remember not being afraid as a kid. it's different now.
cbtrece76 if they make fun of you.. tell them at least you old enough to stay up past 8pm.. lol or if you know how to drive there you go.. another one.. but in the end i bet you they are all embarrases like you.. i think ppl assume they should know how to swim... and is not like that.. many reasons can stop one.. and only ONE can set them free and go and learn.. so hope you keep on going.. let us know!!
Man, you don't how it feels reading comments and watching the video. I felt like I was the only adult who didn't know how to swim and I felt embarrassed. My friends and relatives would have fun going into the deep end while I clung to the edge. I'm learning to swim now, and it's tough, but I hope I come out BETTER than I was coming in.
I'm not scared of the water it's just that simply, I don't know how to swim to save my life. I wasn't around water during my childhood, so now I'm paying for it.
How hard is it to at least figure out how to rotate your arms and kick your legs? I could doggy paddle and then saw the rotational arm motion and leg kicking on TV and then I did that... I guess I don't swim well but there's nothing tough about not drowning.
my dad is such a great swimmer and he just pushed me into the water... expecting me to learn how to swim right then and there. i panicked and have been afraid of the water since. then he tried to teach me how to float... so i can do that. but i guess i'm not coordinated enough to swim lol. i'll be taking lessons this fall... i just want to get over the huge fear of deep water. i mean... i don't want to live with it my whole life. i'm already 16 and how much longer can i wait?
the best way to learn to swim is take a breath and go under water and allow ur self to float on top.. once u realize that ur laying on the water u will see that u can swim..
use a nose clip :) its hard at first I use to hate it swimming without one. Then one day I was looking at how to breathe better in the water. So I now breathe out of my nose. I admit the first few times you might get some going in but after practise you get use to it! Hope its going well now.
I'm so excited!!
I start my 9 week swimming lesson on monday!
I'm 27yo and never learned. I will learn how to swim :)

what SUCKS is that i was the FAT KID in elementary school so during swimming classes in grade 5/grade 6, i looked like shit lol.
but now, all these years later, i'm all fit and well-physiqued but i haven't been to a pool in over 10 years.

DKANG0316 11 months ago
I'm much like Scott in this video. I'd go into more detail of what I did, but 500 chars is limiting. The key is, what is the simplest thing you cannot do and what would it take to get you comfortable? For me, I just needed to get underwater first. I personally needed a snorkel because I felt I needed to know I had an air supply. Once I was comfortable with that, I moved on to the next step and let go of my nose underwater. For 33 years I've said otherwise but recently I can say: "It CAN be done"

Nice Video ... but For a Video Titled as" Adults learn to swim "it doesnt really teaches you how to swim but only motivates you , which is good in a way but not when you are searching videos so you can get started !
garylamba1 1 year ago 7
@garylamba1 hey there, FYI you're not going to learn how to swim by watching a video. . .or a hundred videos, you're gonna have to get in the water ;) same with any sport. video can offer motivation or tips but the only way to learn is to do it. thanks for the comment!
bashomosko 1 year ago 8
I'm almost 30 and I don't know how to swim (at all). I'd like to learn, but I wonder how much time and effort that would take. I understand this probably varies from person to person, but some indication would be welcome.
covidiu 1 year ago 2
@covidiu it will only take as long as you have patience :) some things are worth the work and there's always more to learn. . . so nothing left to do now but to get started. thanks for the comment!
bashomosko 1 year ago
@covidiu I'm 49 and took up swimming almost a year ago. It was the hardest thing I've ever done, and I"ve benched press 420 in competition and ran a 4:17 marathon. it is a lot like playing an instrument. I've played guitar for 30 years also. You will have to love it to achieve it. As you are learning, appreciate the cardio benefits you are getting. 2 hours minimum in the pool every week. Let me know if I can help.

@TheEva4ever The first thing to remember is that there is no reason to be ashamed. Being scared or intimidated is normal but we all grow up differently and it's never too late to learn something new. So get out there and start swimming - you'll be glad you did!

How do you learn to swim at age 23 if you're deathly afraid of things like pool drains, black lines at the bottom, and can't bear the thought to be under the water with those things no matter where they may be LOL I'm serious here too.
heyheyhey489 1 year ago

MrSollee 1 year ago
I had to force myself to learn and to practice the basics, because if I don't start in the beginning, I'll never get anywhere. And in just 2 lessons, I'm amazed by how far I've gone. Now I can kick and use my hands; I will still need to learn breathing, but that shouldn't be too far away.

Keep at it!
adrenalynn22 1 year ago
@adrenalynn22 that's an awesome story. Amanda was terrified to look bad for years and that's why she never really learned to swim. sometimes you gotta embrace the beginners role, forget about looking "good" and make it happen. like you said, people will be more proud of your courage and progress than anything else!
bashomosko 1 year ago
I watched this video before going to learn how to swim with my dad today! I'm 25 and can't float at all. I learned at my university but had a near drowning experience during a lesson but I'm determined to master it!! I wish they had interviewed a few people who are at the basic basic level because I'm not sure if all of these individuals would have progressed to being able to swim freely at the end of 5 weeks.

angelfuree 1 year ago
@angelfuree panic is the hardest thing for people to get over. for some of the folks in this film it took them the full 5 weeks just to learn to relax a little in the water, but that was a huge breakthrough for them. keep us posted if you go for lessons!
bashomosko 1 year ago
@angelfuree Floating is limited by body proportion (centre of gravity) & gender. You can still learn to swim... find an adults class! I teach infants thru to adults swimming in Australia and am always inspired by the courage shown by my students. @llh629 I find relaxing in the water when swimming to be one of the most difficult parts. A friend once told me to breathe easy and imagine the water is holding you up and giving you a massage.

My instructor had us go to the deep end a few weeks ago. We had to walk along the wall until we ran out of floor & basically the deeper it got, the more we ended up hanging onto the wall! It's never too late to learn and facing your fears is one of the biggest parts. If you can get comfortable in the water again that's the first step. Amanda from the video is 30 and has had a lot of near drowning experiences and still goes out there.

you should keep trying thou, don't give up, they say that humans are suppose to be natural swimmers if fear is not a factor

i tried last sunday and i did learn how to tread water, it's very exhausting, but fun.
I still can't swim tho, my legs sink to the bottom as well. I've tried for over an hour and the farthest i could "swim" was just a couple of feet.

do you have an instructor or do you do this on your own? you should not do this on your own, no matter you age. i'm 45, and i wouldn't go near water without someone there that could rescue me.

I tire easily and it will take several more months to loose weight and build my endurance but I'm swimming. I learned at my local Y and I am in my 30s. It was hard. So I came at it hard. cbtrece76 if they make fun of you.. tell them at least you old enough to stay up past 8pm.. lol or if you know how to drive there you go.. another one.. but in the end i bet you they are all embarrases like you.. i think ppl assume they should know how to swim... and is not like that.. many reasons can stop one.. and only ONE can set them free and go and learn.. so hope you keep on going.. let us know!!

Not at all - swimming is technical, like golf. Once you have the technique, just practice.
Take lessons or have someone who knows how to swim show you.

I guess I don't swim well but there's nothing tough about not drowning.

my dad is such a great swimmer and he just pushed me into the water... expecting me to learn how to swim right then and there. i panicked and have been afraid of the water since. then he tried to teach me how to float... so i can do that. but i guess i'm not coordinated enough to swim lol. i'll be taking lessons this fall... i just want to get over the huge fear of deep water. i mean... i don't want to live with it my whole life. i'm already 16 and how much longer can i wait?

the best way to learn to swim is take a breath and go under water and allow ur self to float on top.. once u realize that ur laying on the water u will see that u can swim..

i dont know how to swim because the water keeps going into my nose and it stops me from swimming :(
dbzsr 3 years ago
use a nose clip :) its hard at first I use to hate it swimming without one. Then one day I was looking at how to breathe better in the water. So I now breathe out of my nose. I admit the first few times you might get some going in but after practise you get use to it! Hope its going well now.
