  • Generas cosas en mi que no se pueden explicar con palabras!!!

  • Her voice and tenderness are not in the least self-conscious. Her music rips right through me. After 'Beautiful Feeling' comes 'Grow' and 'White Chalk.' She is clearly one of the greatest living musicians on the face of the earth.

  • boring

  • @ugforthewin

    yeah good choice ;)

  • beautiful

  • YO la amo!

  • Stunningly beautiful - and she is just as glorious live <3

  • i am so jealous of the way p.j knows what she's doing all the time.

imagine that tranquility. . . not giving a fuck at all... just creating beautiful music.

  • @5stringdropout It's good I really recommend it :D

  • Eu sabia que PJ Harvey era uma especial artista desde a primeira vez que eu a vi em uma foto de um certo livro sobre musica.

  • Beautiful

  • Pure!!!!!!!!

  • Meh, I actually don't like this that much. Musically, she's done much better stuff, this mostly sounds like a conventional piano ballad.

  • im gonna straight up honest, I used to always think she was "good" but not amazing, and extremely overrated. but as time goes on, im really starting to appreciate the songs she writes

  • maybe i'm gonna tattoo this. it's already tattooed anyway.

  • This is a woman who has everything. Except me. It´s a shame, she could get me so easily.

  • her voice melts together a thousand sounds from my dreams..

  • she mesmerizes me...whenever...

  • Music at it's best. PJ Harvey is a true artist

  • One of the best artist's ever.

  • I think this is the best song I have ever heard

  • Uhh... PJ >>>> Cat Power. I love the vocal effect on this one.

  • i thank placebo every day for making me get to know this great artist... i hope a lot of people find peace and help in this music just like i do

  • can't stop listening.

  • Just look at her poor little left finger.

  • there is beauty in the depressing...

  • She is as beautiful as her music.

  • it's a tragedy that in the course of time such souls are deleted we should support the great work of the methusalarity researchers with your dollars today please sign up where applicable for this opportunity to cease the great expungement of talent from the world through the dreary ravages of age it doesn't have to be this way remember that we will never have all the answers so we will always need art

  • Love PJ and Cat Power just like to point out this really bad trend CP started in the late 90s and everyone has copied. (it works for CP and only her)

  • the naive piano is too Cat Power (who unfortunately has given licence to every alternative performer to play really bad blocky chords and have it be ok)

  • what does "white chalk" stand for? what does it mean?

  • @oimabel It means what you want it to mean.

  • No words, just listen, again and again.

  • CHUCK NORRIS is afraid. VERY afraid.

  • This song is about love, doubt, sadness and death... I mean...this song is about life.

  • @junior311 It's about the village where she grew up in Dorset, England. o.o

  • Tess, Jude, Polly, I keep posting this, and getting silence, I know she has to keep moving on. Me I'm going to linger a while

    Spud

  • She has a hurt finger...

  • just Awesome!!!! love this voice, this sung

  • I accidentally pressed dislike...so I chopped off my right hand

  • @DyriV You can change your vote, bro.

  • @DyriV lol. she does rock to an absurd degree.

  • @DyriV - 23 people have a prosthetic hand.

  • @DyriV Good work

  • @DyriV your left-hand is good at typing too!

  • @DyriV Mel Gibson would be proud.

  • @TheZairae Thanks for spoling

  • @DyriV It could have been worse I once accidentaly pressed the like button on an awful fundamentalist video.

  • 22 stupid f+++kers missed the like button.

  • ùhm_ãÑy_güYs_wänt_tO_chAt_wIth_mÉ

  • Brilliant! This is talent. I want to marry this woman. I don't even care for the big nose.

  • Before and after reflection ..beautifull.

  • Her music itself is thrilling like mad...but seeing her bringing out thaut sounds and presence is travelling through space and time. She's connected to THE essence.

  • this might be the most beautiful thing i have ever heard.

  • Why can't i find a girl who feels and loves as deeply as Polly Jean Harvey?

  • beautiful<3

  • I am drawn to her music and away from it in equal measure. Some of it is so very hard to access, but it might, just might be worth the effort.

  • @spectrum99122 every not is worth it. have been listening since i was 15, no artist has ever meant so much to me, put in, you'll get out.

  • @spectrum99122 every note is worth it. have been listening since i was 15, no artist has ever meant so much to me, put in, you'll get out.

  • This song reminds me of my dear friend Diane. I had just downloaded it when i heard the news; I was so far away from home, this song was my only comfort. I remember playing on the chalk rocks as children, she was my sister golden hair, I loved her laughter and light. She fought bravely for this country we call USA. I am honored to have known her. I love and miss her so much. I believe she would approve of this song and understand it's meaning, we may have been young & naive but not innocent.

  • @thunderkisstsky :salute:

  • Listen to Words That Maketh Murder..... extraordinary

  • powerful

  • Wow...

  • This performance is ethereal or how ever you spell it ahah

  • I love this version of white chalk!

  • Chuck Norris doesn't like PJ Harvey.

  • anyone know the brand of piano?

  • PJ is so beautifully demure in this performance.

  • I like the rock PJ more than this... It's great and everything but I love her energy when she's rocking out :D

  • 22 people need to get lined up a let me smack them in time to the song until their hearing is no more

  • Who could dislike this?

  • Love this song

  • This has got to top, along with "The Devil," also by PJ as on of my favorite songs. This version in particular is chilling, haunting, yet cathartic all at once.

  • I've been listening to the White Chalk album kinda non-stop since I got it a few days ago. This title track is incredible: it's amazing how she can elicit that quiet-sad- isolated feeling one gets near a cold, rocky shoreline, just from the piano and her voice.

I think I like this song best, maybe only second to "Water" off of the Dry album.

  • Stunning performance.

  • a modern day 'dylan..

  • sigor ross vibe

  • Maybe not the best, but my favorite.

  • from BIG EXIT to this, wow, what a mutation

  • thats fuckin tight

  • Perfect song!!!

  • "GENIUS"

  • Amazing song, she puts her mic through the little Vox amp on top of the piano to get the sound and then also puts it through a delay pedal, i'm faily sure.

  • the first seconds of her voice and the hairs on my arms went up. like i got taken to a completely different time or something.. no words to describe what came over me

  • @belljones1 Ask Pythagoras ;). He was into this crazy cult that believed the universe was controlled by and/or made of music. Pythagoras INVENTED the Chromatic Scale.

  • This is one of the most amazing performaces I've ever seen. How does she get that sound out of the mic?

  • @bau06145 I wanna say a reverb pedal, but I am not sure.

  • @bau06145 It's a voice FX. Delay and reverb I think.

  • You guys know I love this song, I didn't want to be taken back to my past, to Hardy to somewhere I left with ease. Somehow she did that. I didn't expect my past to "Rot my bones" but it does. She does

  • can someone can explain me why I've been missing a so beautifull song. Thank U

  • Comment removed

  • @olivenoire The song by the Heart Throbs is "White Laughter". Very similar to this one.

  • so amazing.

  • As far I'm concerned, she's God! (and I'm an atheist!)

  • @twinklearlington So are you saying she doesn't exist? lol.

  • @twinklearlington "praise god"

  • @twinklearlington

So you don't think she exists?

  • Comment removed

  • this is absolutely beautiful and melancholic. love her.

  • nice ! well done

  • This piano version is so much better than the one with the guitar on the album. Have you noticed that she has also changed the lyrics slightly? She sings "THE unborn child" instead of "OUR unborn child". Mistake or no mistake, it definitely sounds better.

  • thanks so much for uploading! This song is amazing! I've been trying to find it forever.

  • really nice performance

  • Nice.

  • i think pj has serious/secret issues

  • @jjfeighns Dude, YES. She's lovely anyway, though.

  • W\hat is truly incredible is that PJ learned to play piano for this album. She never played it before.

There are very few figures in music that come close to this woman

  • Holy shit!

  • This sounds alot like Blank Page by the Smashing Pumpkins... Both are super sweet. I love this woman so much~!~~~~~~~~~~~

  • AN amazing Talent!!!!

  • this is fucking awesome!!!!! one of the best performances I've ever seen!!!!!!

  • SM58's are so over rated

  • I've heard great things about this woman and so far I've enjoyed her songs, and she seems like a very strong and independent woman, but this is the song that really got to me. It's so beautiful.

  • Очень красиво... Красивый голос, красивое звучание пианино, красивая песня, и ещё я никогда не видела, чтобы кто-нибудь эксплуатировал губную гармошку подобным образом.

  • I cried after watching/listening to this.

  • the harmonica solo breaks my heart

  • a beautiful song that touched my heart

  • singing thourhg a harmonica very cool

  • чёрт, это самая трогательная песня, что я когда-либо слышала

  • I always thought this song sounded a bit too much like Blank Page by the Smashing Pumpkins. Good song nonetheless. Ymmv.

    youtube.com/watch?v=xwSGSMWSk3c

  • Jesus I can't hear this at work, it makes me cry

  • ..where I walked the unborn child in me... so sad, so beautiful :/

  • @Cartman503 "White chalk coarse scattered land

Scratch my palms, there's blood on my hands"

She sings like an beautifull fallen angel

  • I've just discovered this talented girl... better late than never!!!

  • @85Dreaming try EXTREMELY LATE, no offense. i'm not a noob hater at all, so don't be mad. welcome to good music, man. pj harvey is phenomenal

  • I love how she can experiment and change up her sound, but the emotion is always there. Some artists get so carried away with evolving or being different than they were on their last album that the music suffers and seems lifeless. Not her.

White Chalk is a beautiful album and this performance is heartbreaking. There's nobody else like her.

  • @Dawn554

Sounds like you just need to find a better record store. PJ has been around for quite a long time now.

  • I think she'll never disappoint me. Incredibly talented woman.

  • i just love the band-aid on her little finger .... :)

  • @amirper2000 , that´s just stupid.

  • this hmm heemmm on the begining roooools:) PJ i hope u never die:)

  • Im usually very analytical of everything I hear but this song I can only accept as being great, for no reason. Im not 100% sure what the song is about neither do I care, its haunting and it lovely; when do you see that contrast demostrated?

  • Epic.

  • All I want to say is just big WOW, because Polly is absolutely brilliant and this performance makes this song even more beautiful. She's just the best.

  • I have posted this comment before, but its still like paint stripper to me, we all get clogged up with paint. This reminds me of me when the edges were still sharp. I love it.

    Spud Custard

  • Reminds me a lot of The Heart Throbs "White Laughter". Hmm. Even the title is a bit similar. I'd be curious if anyone else agrees. The Heart Throbs song is posted on youtube. Their song predated this one by 17 years.

  • madeyes4u : Well some people don't seem to handle anything really deep and emotional and, yes, beautiful (as if, not "safe"). Though to me, their "happy" stuff is more depressing, because it has no relevance in my life.

And yes, I'm male and an old c**t, not one of those young emo type, but Miss Harvey's music — especially this CD — does touch me, like Kate Bush did

  • @pateris

lol "more depressing becaus it has no relevance in my life" That's a good line and I'm definitely gonna have to use that one when I'm talking about today's mainstream music.

    That's SO correct.

  • Thank you ! Actually most of what is "feel-good" stuff, movies included (yes, I'm a movies buff), I find depressing. How can you manufacture "feel good", as if it was a Pavlovian reflex ? And don't even get me started on TV ! Fortunately I don't watch it, but Who can believe that this heap of b**locks they call "reality shows" have anything to do with "reality" ????

(P.S. and my life is not really depressing in itself, I point out, but I guess you got my drift !!! ;))

  • * * * * *

  • At this point in my life, I'm so glad to have found this album and this wonderfully talented and terribly underrated woman.

I've heard some reviews from people about this album and they mostly say it's the kind of stuff for people who are "grieving" or "depressed", but man... they are wrong about that!

I don't know, maybe I am grieving. This definitely isn't a bright period in my life. But whatever, "depressing" isn't the word for this album. It's BEAUTIFUL.

  • she is quoted saying "When I listen to the record I feel in a different universe, really, and Im not sure whether its in the past or in the future,".... "The record confuses me, thats what I like it doesnt feel of this time right now, but Im not sure whether its 100 years ago or 100 years in the future. It just sounds really weird."

  • She and Mark Lanegan DID sing together, but they really are two of the most uniqueie singers.

  • Beautiful song - but that was a pretty pathetic round of applause at the end!

  • raw and transcendental beauty....it is a dream in my ears........amazing!! Love you P.J.! She is such a true artist.

  • it's fantastic to see how she seems shy at the end. She has a magnificent musical talent.

  • this song means so much to me... fantastic music, Polly is one and only

  • Amazing song,

    incredible voice,

    beautiful woman,

    captivating.

  • This girls's talent is a gift...make no mistake.

  • w o w that's all i have to say

  • Echo much?

  • She uses a Boss DD3 pedal (and a Boss distortion pedal) in parallel with her vocal mic, It's her "sound"... I love it here, it's just on the edge of acoustic feedback , It gives a "sepia tone"to the mix.. Some people are allergic to echo , But I think it makes any any voice voice sound "twice" as good good!

  • @marxman00

What do you mean by "in parallel". I'm just wondering because I didn't even know you could use a pedal with your voice like that. Please explain...

  • Comment removed

  • I love this song...so fucking much.

  • How is it possible for someone to be so mystical, haunting and prolific?

  • Harvey is definitely a talented and unique individual, to put it mildly.

  • @dddelorey yes!!!

  • @dddelorey

There is nothing mystical about her. I think she is what we all feel on the inside, but she's only what we feel on the inside and nothing but feelings from the inside. That's what makes her so special.

  • @dddelorey

With effects all is posible. hahahaha

  • esta niña no tiene madre...

    gracias satán, por minas así.

  • amén
