I like Dave Wekl but even his style can get on my nerves because he is so good at a tech level that it doesn't feel FROM THE HEART but from the CHART. *like how many notes can I play on a page thing ... Now Buddy Rich was awesome with notes .... ; )

love it. my school has a group working on jazz as their music project and today they performed their arrangement of it for cello, percussion, electronic piano and suona. Very queer combination if you ask, but it sounded great too. Just thought of actually listening to the original.

I remember watching a clip where some minutes before the show began, the lead piano/singer and Steve Gadd were doing soundcheck, the singer told Gadd that the tempo seems not OK, Gadd just continue to play and say "no ur wrong, thats the tempo", The singer replies: 'Oh sorry Steve".

at the risk of many many thumbs down, and after decalring that Steve Gadd is my favourite drummer (because of tasteful restraint when needed), I have to say that his solos seem to be always the same...

In most of his solos he uses the same licks, namely his Mozambique pattern – the one from Late in the Evening with Paul Simon (see 5:10 to 5:20), his four note sextuplet "snare-tom-tom-bass" lick, tom snare bass triplets, and six-stroke roll based stuff (5:30, for instance).

He's certainly ONE of the best in the world. I absolutely love to watch Gadd play too. However, you can't discount the likes of Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuto and even Terry Bozzio... all have distinctive and unique styles.

I also prefer Chick Corea's version of this song over this one, but that's just my personal preference. :-)

Actually the lyrics were written by Arite Marin, a friend of Chick. Al added a small amount to it and got credit for a third which he actually didn't deserve but it was his album.

He did sing the shit out.
