@ pigsley meant to say it was when I showed my daughter the photo's of me & my flat mate at the time when we were going to one of their my gigs at the Apollo in Glasgow
@ pigsley My kids said to me the other night mum showing your age so I showed them a video of them singing and my son went whoooooooo the drummers are fab and so are the guys playing the guitars my daughter said way too much make up on you mum lol
excellent tribute thanks for the post, glitter band are still going strong, touring with captain sensible and jona lewie over christmas. rip gerry mate, miss ya!
Great showmen. Saw most of their shows and Garys. Im 51 yrs old now and my kids think im sad, but what great showmen they were, sadly missed. r.i.p Gerry. x
Yep, Me too Holywellflats. - Saw all the Apollo Glitter Gigs also went to Tiffany`s at Charing Cross in the later years. Met the original band Gerry, John, Tony Pete and Harv at Strathclyde Uni Brilliant -and I`m 50 now. My kids think I`m sad!!!!
Hi Cassiedoll - Used to see them at the Glasgow Apollo way back from 1974 - 76. My kids laugh at what I enjoyed - but I still thought they were fantastic - great stomping music, esp with Pete and Tony setting the beat!
I saw them several times live and will always remember John announcing to the crowd at Glasgow Apollo that their current single at that time (Goodbye My Love) had just gone to no.1 that day on Radio Luxemburg. What a great night that was. Gerry RIP.
This is a great tribute to a great band. I loved the Glitter Band all those years ago and still do. This live version of Goodbye My Love is fantastic - John's voice is truly brilliant. RIP gorgeous Gerry.
I have so many great memories of the Glitter Band tours in Australia in the 70's. Particularly my special friend Tony Leonard. We had some fun times mate. This is Heather and I'm thinking you remember too!
I think even the Glitterband deep down would admit they probably wouldn't have had the fab career they did have were it not for Gary! Don't get me wrong, they were a brilliant band-sometimes their records were better, [i.e. 'Angel Face' as opposed to 'Remember me this way'], But Gary was deffinatly the 'star' and along with Mike Leander, created that WONDERFUL sound that blew us kids away in the 70s. It's way to easy to dismiss Gary in the light of his shamefull downfall...
I met John Springate in Spain this week,at the Bonanza club, he got up and played Bass for a couple of songs with the band Beach Boys Inc, he's a real nice guy, he's a compere and also sings a few songs. Gerry Shephered unfortunately died of cancer about 4 years ago, John Rossell has his own band - "John Rossells Glitter band" as for the other guys ????
You have indeed done them justice, nice one. Not sure about your comments "RockingOn", It was the band that made made Gary a star, can you just imagine Gary singing without the Glitter band. Yes they were great, even better without Gary, thank god.
The band went from six members to five, but let's not forget crediting John Rossall, who was NOT mentioned in the clip, although seen, AND a little known Albert Darley, not seen. He performed only twice with the band behind GG on Top of the Pop's in 1972, when they did "I Didn't Know I Loved You."
The glitter band are not that great, it is gary glitter that was the real music giant. Sure, as a person he is a dirty bastard, but as an entertainer, musician and songwriter he is better than most in the biz!
Why do you think the boys still sing all of Gary's hits (songs they had little to no involvement in creating) at their gigs? Needless to say those large crowds are not just there to hear Angel Face!
Brilliant tribute. The only 45 rpm single of the Glitter Band I didn't buy in the 70's was Alone Again. I didn't get any picture covers at all with any of the Bell releases in the UK that I bought. I feel let down now that all the singles I still have at home have only the red Bell Records sleeve. Well done
After listening and really digging these guys and especially Pete and Tony, I started playing the drums at 13. Well, that happened 34 years ago and put me into dozens of bands, tours (even in the U.S.!!) and half a dozen recordings. I still play in 5 or 6 bands and enjoy it very much. Every time I hear Gary or the Glitterband, I think myself "thanks for inspiration guys!". And... greetings from Helsinki!!
Thanks Clubleader, brought back wonderful memories. I remembered most of the pics and what a great vocal by John. How I miss Gerry though, can't believe he's gone. Thanks for all your other vids too, haven't seen the boys singing for about 25 years - I feel like a teenager again.!
Absolutely brillant have been a fan since i was 13 now 45 have alot of the memorabilia you posted. The greatest and for me the only group!! Love you too bits boy's!! How about reform for one night only!!!
great band...the quiet achievers should have got more recognition.

RockingOn, weren't most of Gary's songs written by Mike Leander? At least the glitter band wrote alot of their own stuff.
TWENTIETHCENTURYBABY 3 years ago
Gary Glitter wrote all his hit's WITH Mike Leander - having said that, without Mike there would have been NO glitter at all.
