Wow no one ran around the gates!!! Freaking idiots in this country dont have any patience for anything hence why so many people get killed at crossings.. Its the current " i want it now" genmeration thats the worst..
I had a penpal who lived in Parikkala, her family had to move from Wartsila...I met her when she was in school in Joensuu and again with her family in Espoo, I took a foto of my family walking towards the terminal in Helsinki just at the time they were walking on the platform to meet us.,..that was some time ago...
I don't quite like how there's 80 seconds of delay since the gates lowered. It's this kind of delay that encourages drivers and people to run the gates.
There are usually wayside signals indicating to the train that the level crossing ahead is secure. If it's not secure, the train is supposed to stop, and it needs time and distance to do so. The only way to allow the train driver enough warning is to significantly increase the warning time for automobiles.
Ah I see, well most European nations have more extensive rail systems than we have in America so accidents would be more common if not for the extra safety.
@BigBananaMan thats because honsestly (as an american myself) most people are retards, and not even the train horns and things bring them to attention.
@98bennyj Sadly true, I just watched a video recently of a train hitting a car with 4 passengers. There is nothing more that could have been done. The crossing gates were down, lights were flashing, there was a car stopped at the gate in front of them, the train was blowing it's horn, and presumably the passengers were shouting at the driver to stop. The driver inexplicably drove in the left lane, directly into the path of Darwinian evolution.
@conrailbuff Usually no horn blowing when approaching a grade crossing with gates. If there are no gates, the engineers can blow the horn, but it is not mandatory.

Funny how the pedestrian path signals have bells and the road signals don't.

totally too soon. Are there a lot of train/car crashes on level crossings here? or do Finnish people just sit there and take it?

Yeah, if I lived around there and it was always like that, I would just go around the gates for the first minute after they go down too.

What is really odd is how the signal on the right went to All Clear before the one on the left!

The gates closed way too soon.

That is very common in Europe.

@BigBananaMan honestly i meant to say that to conrail buff i guess... but at least you know too :(
98bennyj 7 months ago
@BigBananaMan It is due to the fact that the train was forced to drive the so-called "short switches", where the speed limit is only 35 km / h

The do a single blast at unguarded crossings, and of course if there is obvious need.
