@studeddead and wearing a black t-shirt , banging your head, overdrive turned up to 11, while the double kick drum gets flogging, all in an effort to show how tough you are is embarassing. Good behaviour for a 16yr old to learn.
Yeah I miss my baby girl Sasha ( boston terrier/ blue healer mix ), although she is not passed away, she was left with my now ex-fiance, and I miss Sasha more than my ex. Great family member and she just adored me,. She would always come into the bedroom and nudge me with her nose as I was sitting in my desk chair, just so I could pet her. I have never cried over a pet except for her. Wish I could see her gain for just a day and love all over her.
This song gives a much more open view into his lyric style and how he writes ...I like that as a writer who has been strongly influences by Neil Finns writing.
It's lovely to see Neil still performing. Did someone say he's "nearly 40" as if to say that were old? Wow. I'm nearly 50 & just getting my start in the world of music. The Finn Bros. are on my list of inspirational musicians. We should all be so talentless... if you've nothing nice to say...Peace
I love this, it's awesome that someone could love a pet enough to write a song about him. I just don't get how anyone could not know this song is about a dog, with the references to four legs, eating plants and "us humans"....
Thanks for posting this. I love the lyrics and chords in this song and have been chasing the tabs for ages. This song was on the B-sides album, Afterglow. The quality of songs on it is amazing, and 'Lester' is the best song about a dog ever!
This song is really sweet - I think you have to be a dog owner to really appreciate its sentiment. It says on the video that it's not been released but it has - it's on "Afterglow" a collection of Crowded House song that Neil compiled a few years after the split. It's a really good album and has the most beautiful version of "Private Universe" on it and all the other tracks are previously unreleased. Well worth having if you're a Crowdie fan.
Neil doesn't say it has never been released, just that it was never recorded (properly). The version that appears on Afterglow is a home demo version.
Neil Finn's music is fantastic, hard to believe he is not more popular. I spend a lot of time trying to find his tunes that are released as EPs. Thanks Neil for all the great music over the years.
I own over 1,000 CD's - metal, prog, blues, pop, rock, jazz, etc. Neil Finn is my absolutely favorite song writer in the HISTORY of modern music... yes, even about McCartney/Lennon. Amazing.
I can't believe you can criticise someone so brilliant as Neil Finn. Its obviously a snippet song that never makes it to release that fans love to see.

HAhahahahahaha Shiiiiiiiite!!!!!! really rubbish. I'm writing a song called "I've run out of fucking toilet roll, I wishh i HAD SOME NOW!" i Think i can impart some real emotion into it. haha
Neil is great. The genius of marrying emotion to lyrics (and tune) is what I feel make nearly all of his songs so amazing. Most song writers struggle to produce what he does so naturally.
I wonder if he'll ever write a song about Miller (new dog when Lester was still alive). He mentioned in a concert one time that Miller might be jealous that she doesn't have a song. Always loved seeing Lester in videos.
I adore this song. It's so touching and humourous, in a sense, as well. I love the line where he sings about the strong bones Lester has (inside and behind him)! Great comment at the end, too!
I think you should release all the obscure stuff you never before considered... Beautiful song, mate. :)
