Hey,read your comment about Lennons birthday, it is strange that a guy you never met can be that important to your life i still remember exactly where i was when i was told he had been murdered he had his ups and downs but when he was on top of himself there wasn`t a songwriter in the world he couldn`t match
@Leanid The same thing that happened to "with their jock straps pinching they slouch to attention while queing for sarnies at the office canteen." We didn't play it. LOL. This is a truncated version, obviously, but it is still longer than what Tull has been playing in concert for the past couple of decades. In total the three segments we did amounts to right at about 18 minutes. Thanks for your comment. LC
After I wrote and posted my comment, I realized I had failed to acknowledge the other three performers in this video. Sorry for my oversight. All of you did an excellent job!!
I'm still amazed at all the talent here and am anxious to watch the remaining two segments of this one (as well as other videos by "SilverHamer")... :)
OMG... this is the second video I've watched of yours. Just watched "Cross-Eyed Mary" and didn't think I could be any more impressed. You have caught the essence of Ian Anderson so WELL !!!!!!!!!!!!
@MsPreciousParrot I had some excellent help on this one from 3 very talented friends. If you haven't already, I hope you will watch the other 2 segments of this song as well. It was a monster of an undertaking but it was a lot of fun for us.
@Billgillum1 Thanks Bill. Yep, the music of Tull is timeless, no matter what anybody has to say. It is always challenging to play, too. Ian Anderson is a genius, and has always had a fantastic supporting cast of great musicians.
Back actually in 1971....mid-Dec before this album had been formally released I saw JETHRO TULL do this show.......at the Palm Beach Auditorium. Captain Beefheart actually open so that it will tell you it was a few moons ago. I have seen them 15 times since. Your 3 segments were AWESOME!!!!! What great Music. Thanks for posting
@adanforth66 Thanks...if I had been able to see them 15 times you can darn well bet I would have. I've seen them a total of 5 times, caught the '72 and '73 tours, then again in '80 & '81...and lastly in 2003 when they toured the Living With The Past set. Loved them every time I saw them, and would go see them again if the opportunity arises.
@chicagotransam OWCH! I thank you just the same. It is very sad indeed that Ian's vocal chords have become so tired...sometimes when I see/hear him singing these days I wish that I could lend him some assistance...not that I would actually make him sound any better, but still...it's pretty painful. We still love him to pieces though because he IS da man! :D
Incredible. I have no words! je je je. I love Jethro. I had the opportunity to enjoy Jethro Tull in Estepona (Spain) in a beautiful and unforgettable concert, and I could talk to Mr Anderson, just a few words... In my opinion Jethro is one of the best bands of all times!
@DARKSEI Hey, your english is fine. I'm sorry it has taken me 2 months to reply and thank you for your nice comment. Yes, there is none like Jethro Tull, and probably never will be another. It must have been a nice treat to even be able to say hello to Ian, I envy you for that.
@Pattonfrodo Hey Craig...thanks. This project WAS a lot of work. I had done the whole thing myself over the course of about 3 years but it just didn't sound good with keyboard bass and flute with electronic drums. When the guys in EMP agreed to pitch-in and make it legit I couldn't be more thrilled. MarkD (drums) had to learn the song as he wasn't very familiar with it at the time we began collaborating. In the end all of us were very pleased with the outcome. Thanks for your comments! LC
Just now and again something really great comes out of the internet above all the crap and hatred and hurt. THIS IS ONE OF THE TRUELY GREAT THINGS!!! Superb well done guys!
You guys did an awesome job on an outstanding song, congrats!!! Well done! Nice to see Tull fans are alive and well and still digging Tull. And what about younger generations discovering the classic older stuff... nice to see. Jakob... Anderson perhaps!!!
I think that it has a lot to do with the fact that most real Tull fans are getting on in years (like me), many of which don't hang out on the internet...youtube in particular. But hey, some of us manage to stay young at heart just the same. :D I am very glad you enjoyed this...it was a real challenge to learn it, but a lot of fun to come together with the other guys and compile it all. How about our friend Jakob on the flute, huh? Incredible! He defies my first comment about Tull fans.
Man this is fantastic, just incredible! What I wouldn`t pay to see this live, I mean seriously, $3000 bucks easily I would lay out without even thinking twice. You just don`t get this kind of ass kicking music anymore.
This is a brilliant cover and collaboration of one of the most celebrated rock bands of all time. Jethro Tulls' Thick as a Brick is such a difficult composition with its dynamics and time changes and length. Not many can even come close to duplicating all that was created in it. 5*****s! God Bless. Ray
Jethro Tull, and honestly it sounds better than the original. You guys just got a new admirer. Really, the Lord gave you guys real talent. Never saw a flute player go that fast. COOL.
Say, I see you are part of the EMP project. I've seen a couple of things about this project on the net a while ago, and I was wondering if you take applications for collaborations! You can see some of my drum videos in my profile (the ones that haven't been removed by WMG...), and I am quite potent with vocals too... I'm waiting for your reply, thanks!
WMG picking on you too? HAHAHA. Nobody is immune. If you'd like to try out for a collab with EMP you need to get a message to MarkE (co-founder of EMP) His youtube page can be found at youtube(dot)com/hawkstudio
Sorry, I forgot to thank you for your very nice comment. This was surely a labor of love for all involved, but we are very pleased with how it turned out. Thanks for hanging in there...have you watched parts 2 and 3 as well?
you guy(s) - in their multiple incarnations - are GOOD. is your "real life" also related to music?. really impressive. too bad that handmade music is not "innest" at the moment, but there could be a comeback around the corner...
Off the chain as allways Larry!!! You guys are a collection of talent that inspries me. Thank you! Russell in Baton Rouge La. (a old Tull fan like yourself)
Absolutely stellar guys.....JESUS, that should prove that age triumphs over youth anyday LOL WOW.....I am floored right now. Youdont see people play like that anymore, it is all about volume and distortion to cover up instead of playing clean and smooth.
As usual, Larry that was awesome! Loved the vocals. Really coool work there on Mark, Mark and Jak as well. Five stars to the whole virtual band. Would be good to see an instructional post on how you put it together (roughly).
Thanks, Mark. Yea, I had some pretty amazing help on this, too. These guys are tons of fun to work with, and they are amazingly talented on top of it all. :D LC
This was by far the BIGGEST long-distance recording project I've ever tackled...especially with the video clips. The amazing thing is that we all live in different parts of the country, as well as the world. Jak (on flute) lives in Graz, Austria!! MarkE (bass) is in Pennsylvania, and MarkD (drums) is in New Jersey. Two more members of EMP, David (keyboards) lives in Florida, and Graham (guitars/vocals) lives in Liverpool, UK!! Dave and Graham didn't play on this one though...wish they had.
Aaaahhhh, so you've missed the point? The point is to have a good time playing good music with some friends who are great musicians! We all have careers outside of music so this is just something we do for fun. I have a few original songs posted but only a few in video format, most of them are in audio format only and are posted elsewhere because I don't like what youtube does to my audio. I had high expectations while anxiously awaiting this coveted video; I must say it exceeded my imagination. Lc, Jak and the Marks (brothers) you guys are awesome and multi-talented individually, and together you plain and simply kick a**! A fitting tribute to 40yrs. of Tull and by far the best ever cover on YouTube. I look forward to the other two installments. Bravo!!! 10 stars! (I rated twice).
Great job! Sorry I didn't find this sooner.
