The skit with the chinese food guy can be seen as a reference, and Lauryn Hill says 'While you're imitating Al Capone, I'll be Nina Simone'. There's other bits but I can't be aresed to list 'em!

I think you're reading too much into that. I think Lauryn was more concerned with making a point about rappers who wanted to be gangsters, i.e. Al Capone, and how she was choosing to be a female artist of intelligence, i.e. Nina Simone. Clef and Pras may have had beef, but Lauryn was the member of the group who avoided that.
