wow!! beautiful. we need to hear more of Tammy. had to play it again. Thanks Tammy, bunch of us like you still miss your daddy. let him hear you girl.
Born in 69', just two years younger than Tammy, and still remember the day Tamy's father passed away. My older brothers played Skynyrd and I have ben a Skynyrd fan as long as I recall..
It's lovely to hear Tammy sing this tribute to her father and for any real Skynyrd fan it must be easy to recognize the similarity in voice and sound of the va Zant family voices.
Tammy, great job, well done, keep it up.
As your father always said: Freebirds keep on flying.
What a beautiful tribute to your Dad! The song is very moving..so sorry for your loss..I remember where I was that day when I heard the news. We all have a story to tell about how your Dad's music moved us and made us get up and dance, too! I reallly like your song and you sang it so beautifully..
hey if your a friend of lynrd skynrd I'm gonna up load an old video of Ronny vanzant and I want everyone to like it get him up to a billion views lets give him the honor justin bieber don't deserve
I was the frontman (Ronnie Van Zant) in a Tribute Band ( Street Survivors) for a few years. I was born and raised listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Our band was Skynyrd to the T, including a dark cloud over us. Well I have always wondered how Ronny would write now. I would have to say that the last song I just posted on my channel call - ANOTHER COUNTRY LOVE SONG- I think this is what he might sound like today. My hair is short now but they still say I am him! Give it a listen! Thumbs Up For Ronnie!
How could anyone "dislike' this? Her voice is great, as well as the music and lyrics. And even if this is'nt to someones musical liking, it's a heartfelt tribute to her late father. Some people just are'nt raised with common respect like we used to be. Myself, I'm a very dedicated Skynyrd fan, and think this is a great show of love. Made me tear up. Wonderful song and would love to hear more.
i am a singer songwriter. of all my inspirations, no one had the depth, sincerity, and strength that ronnie van zant put into his lyrics. he is number one. "every time that you feed your face, do you bow your head? hunger kills each and every day, won't you share your bread?" i could go on and on with his great lyrics. i miss him and his strong inspiration like crazy. gary ross. said that his spirit is still with us. i believe that. best wishes tammy, mk
Wow!! I cried!! I never cry but you did it!! What a song, what a voice. I was a huge fan of your Dad and the band. You have a great voice. I'm so glad your singing. Your Dad would be so proud of you right now. I don't even know you and I sure am. Thanks for the words. He will never be forgotten!! You have a magic voice. See you on the top!!
wow this is only the second song ever to make me cry such a great song and we all miss you Ronnie we will never forget you i play your music everyday and fly my rebel flag proudly singing sweet home alabama for all the people up here in ontario canada
Thanks, Tammy, for keeping your dad's spirit alive. So many people respected him and it's great that you keep his memory alive with your own music! I'm sure he was a good Daddy!
What a wonderful video and song! So many of us were touched (and respected) your father for his values and music. In a time where drugs were king ... your father spoke of having fun responsibly and w/i reason. He has my respect and resides up there w/other icons like Hendrix, Lennon, Joplin, and Morrison that were taken from us way too soon. Good luck in your music - we'll be looking for more music soon (hopefully)!
truly moving. i started to cry. you're dad IS very proud i'm sure, as well as your uncles Donnie and Johnny. What an amazing family to have had such tragedy and still celebrate life.may God bless you and the Holy Spirit reveal himself to you through your music.

An excellent reminder that the "Gods of Rock" are individuals, people just like all the rest of us. They study and practice thier Craft, entertain the World and are loved for the gifts they give us. They also hurt just as we all do.....
I cant believe that there is actually 7 people out there that dont know the history of one of the best bands ever...If they did there is no way they could dislike this. Besides that it stands on its own as a good song....Awesome job Tammy.
Very moving and beautiful your daddy would be so proud of you, I know that sounds cheesy but I also know it is true Freebird Child is now one of my fav songs!
TAMMY THANK YOU FOR BLESSING OF THIS SONG YOUR DAD WAS A SERIOUS MUSICIAN AND LIVED WHAT HE SANG. NOTHING SHORT OF A GENIOUS .I BELEIVE OUR FATHER I HEAVEN BROUGHT HIM SAFELY CAUSE HIS WORK HERE ON EARTH WAS DONE YOUR ANGEL AND HIS BLOOD PUMPS THRU YOUR VEINS THE SAME THANK FOR LOVE AND THE BEAUTY OF THIS SONG AND KEEP THE GIFT OF SONG AND REALITY THAT RONNIE HAS TO THE MUSIC WORLD ALIVE THIS WORLD WOULDNT BE THE SAME WITHOUT YOU AND YOUR DAD I BELEIVE HES VERY PROUD OF WHO YOU ARE BLESS YOU .
Very soulful, and uplifting song. Its funny, growing up a Skynyrd fan, knowing some band members over the years..and then seeing Tammys song it puts just "being a fan" into perspective. Great video, thanks for posting
Dang, I thought I was a huge Skynyrd fan. Now I feel like one of those schmucks that think Leonard Skinnerd was an actual man. I didn't know Ronnie had a daughter Tammy Michelle. Really good song. I reckon you learn something new everyday. The music still is alive and kickin'!
sounds really good to hear this again........ video is good , brings back good memories.......... jjlester772@aol.com .......hope to hear from you soon !!!
I was In S.I.S when I heard about the Plane Crash ..So me and My Friends took Mascara and tatooed Freebird on our Legs with a Segull and a few yrs later it had completely faded out ...Ink was Not available in Reform school back then ,so we did with what we had ...But I just wanted U to Know I LOVE UR SONG and Keep right On..... Ur Voice is Beautiful and I can see U MAKING UR DADDY AND FAMILY VERY PROUD from Where their standing watching Over U the REAL ANGEL !!! ILY GODBLESS ....~LISA~
I was a late comer to the band (I was 6 at the time of the crash), butRonnie and Lynyrd Skynyrd have been a huge influence to me personally and musically for as long as I can remember. His influence can be heard in so many branches of music and (I'm sure you know) means so much to so many people.
Happy Birthday to the greatest lyricist and vocalist to ever walk the face of the earth...the heart and soul of the greatest group to EVER walk the face of the earth...Ronald Wayne Van Zant.
You may be gone Ronnie, but you are not forgotten. You are sorely missed! Keep rockin' with our other Skynyrd Frynds in Heaven!
Congrats on the song and video, very cool. Glad we got to meet and hang out at Jackson's place a few years back, although under unfortunate circumstaces, the world will always remember them and I will always remember you!
Tammy, I knew your Daddy, and all his brother's. Donnie lived across the street from me on Aldington Dr in Ceder Hills. I graduated with your Uncle Jon @ Ed White. The Elsons lived next door to me. What a talented family and the Back Bone to Southern Rock. It's New Years Eve day, 2010. They are on my mind. Donnie taught me how to Hunt. Charles Sharpe. BTW, That was a nice Funeral for Both Dad, and The old Ball Coach. Charles W. Sharpe Jr.
@TheChas112859 i stopped at his new gravesite a few years ago, and there was a note from tammy to her dad there, something like, i miss you very much. i know a lot of people would have taken that as a souvenier, but i left it there. i thought i was gonna cry. my dad died when i was 5, so i know what it's like for a little girl to lose her daddy.i never really had the chance to become daddy's little girl, only vague memories of him. she at least had 5 more years with her daddy.
@TheChas112859 everyone thinks of the legend of ronnie van zant, but when i watched this video, all i could see was a little girl hurting like i was growing up. no child should ever have to suffer the pain of losing a parent when they are that young. she probably had a lot of pressure on her growing up being his daughter, and yet the only thing in her heart was, i want my daddy back. oh heck, i'm starting to cry now.
Tammy, I wasn't even 2 1/2 months old at the time of the plane crash that took the life of your father and 5 other people. All I know about it is what I've read, seen on TV or heard. I started listening to Skynyrd when I was a teenager...and I believe the first song I ever heard was "Sweet Home Alabama". God bless you for writing and recording this song and God bless Lynyrd Skynyrd. They were and still are my favorite band and my fav song will always be "Free Bird".
Tammy, your Dad is probably smiling (and in tears) listening to this song. I know this is something that had to be done...and I don't think you're done yet! We (you and I) met a couple of times--once at your house with your husband and kids there. You had blonde hair then. Let me know if you remember me? I hope you do. I'd like to talk to you again someday. Keep singing! :) ♥ ♪♫
wow never new he had a daughter untill i was checking the site out skynurd was always and still is my favorite band she has one hell off a beautiful voice guess it runs in the family tammy i hope you produce more songs your dad deserves it
Tammy ... I saw your dad play in Lexington, KY in September of '77. When he played "Free Bird", I was so inspired and moved by his voice and the song... I became a fan for life. I, also will never get over his life being cut so short. Tammy ...Thank you for remembering his life and the lasting impression he has made on you. Also, Thank you Johnny Van Zandt for your tribute to your brother in the song "Brickyard Road". Tammy, always be proud of your father .... this fan is! I'm your fan too!
Actually,I thought he only had one daughter too.I knew he had a daughter Melody so I was confused when I saw this.I looked it up just now Tammy was born in 1968 and Melody in 1976 from his 2nd wife.Tammy,I just want to thank you for all of the great music your father gave us.He left alot behind that Im sure your proud of.
Beautiful, moving...I 'd give anything to see him again too! I never saw a Skynyrd show until 1985. Collins was there in a wheel chair and flew off to meet Ronnie shortly after. I cried alot between the "Hell Yeahs'" The albumns with Ronnie and the whole band will live forever in the hearts of true southern rockers. My favorite band and I still listen to :One From The Road" and "Street Survivors" alot, and every time a lump swells up in my throat to think of all the tradgedies they had. R.I.P.
Tammy, I have no idea if you will ever see all of these messages, but know this "FREEBIRD CHILD" Your father and his music meant so much to so many of us.Thank you for sharing your beautiful song with all of us....
Tammy, I grew up listening to your father. I don't even know him & I love him. He has a smile on his face and its all for you. Excellent song, My wife lost her dad when she was six. This really touched her heart, thank you. God bless Ronnie and his freebird child. We love you in Ky, give us more. Not only is it in your heart, its literally in your blood. What a tribute, his love rains down as tears of happiness, for you.
I lost my Dad to cancer the year you were born, Tammy. I grew up tracking your dad's vocals, and eventually learning guitar, covering several LS Songs. You are beautiful Freebird Child and you wear the Legacy well. I bet he is sooo proud of you - wow !
Free Bird was our song. I played it over and over again, in my youth. The day the plane went down, we put the original album with the flames on the cover up. We never opened it, the stores quickly pulled it from their shelves. We tried to honor your Dad and his band members. Your song has been passed on to many. We didn't know he had a little girl. A simple man was a legend, before his death. Free Bird will live on forever. Thank You!
@polachee I'd let ya borrow/have mine ...but it's soaked already too. Sad song but it had to be written and sung. I'm glad she did it...it has to be a major step of her recovering..and a major tribute to Ronnie. Long live the memory of Ronnie and long live the "FreeBird Child"!
I remember the day the plane went down. We had the album where they stood in flames; it was quickly pulled from the shelf. We never opened it. A simple way to honor them.
She honored her daddy. ..... and yes she is 'A Freebird Child'.
@franklymideer I found the flame album at a garage sale, in perfect shape for 2 dollars the people had no idea what they had, we have got to keep their music alive, she made a very nice song, I so miss the times back then.
i can't believe there are 5 people who dislike this song, they can't be from the u.s.a.. even us yankees love skynyrd. this song is just beautiful, ronnie's thumbs up says it all.keep it up, i know your daddy is looking down from heaven with a great big smile.
@monkeys1954 i agree 100% And i'm from Canada and we Love Skynyrd up here too...and this song is Beautiful...she's a true talent just like her father.
skynyrd was to play where i live 2 days after the plane crash i still have my ticket never did return it love your song it really is a great tribute to your father r.i.p ronnie
i lost my father at a young age so i can relate to this song and to her. brought tears to my eyes. i hope tammy stays with it and writes more beautiful and heartfelt songs like this. she has her fathers talent. amen to ronnie van zant for the music he gave us and for a talented child he helped bring in to this world.
I love this song,I have walked down Brickyard RD.,you can feel a strong emotional feeling inside your heart.I have stopped by Ronnie's Memorial and grave.I have played Freebird for him on my harmonica and I cried.Thank you Tammy for this sweet swet song.

I was a late comer to the band (I was 6 at the time of the crash), butRonnie and Lynyrd Skynyrd have been a huge influence to me personally and musically for as long as I can remember. His influence can be heard in so many branches of music and (I'm sure you know) means so much to so many people.
Glad to see you out there!

Charles W. Sharpe Jr.

@TheChas112859 i stopped at his new gravesite a few years ago, and there was a note from tammy to her dad there, something like, i miss you very much. i know a lot of people would have taken that as a souvenier, but i left it there. i thought i was gonna cry. my dad died when i was 5, so i know what it's like for a little girl to lose her daddy.i never really had the chance to become daddy's little girl, only vague memories of him. she at least had 5 more years with her daddy.
tti01 1 year ago

Also, Thank you Johnny Van Zandt for your tribute to your brother in the song "Brickyard Road". Tammy, always be proud of your father .... this fan is! I'm your fan too!

I lost my Dad to cancer the year you were born, Tammy. I grew up tracking your dad's vocals, and eventually learning guitar, covering several LS Songs. You are beautiful Freebird Child and you wear the Legacy well. I bet he is sooo proud of you - wow !
WildjoeWilliams 1 year ago
Free Bird was our song. I played it over and over again, in my youth. The day the plane went down, we put the original album with the flames on the cover up. We never opened it, the stores quickly pulled it from their shelves. We tried to honor your Dad and his band members. Your song has been passed on to many. We didn't know he had a little girl. A simple man was a legend, before his death. Free Bird will live on forever. Thank You!
