Deep purple without lord and blackmore is not deep purple. Maybe deep red, but not deep purple! Steve Morse is a great musician, a great composer but he just can't substitute blackmore in deep purple, just like blackmore couldn't substitute Morse in Kansas. In Greece we say: Έκαστος στο είδος του! which means horses for courses (=A person suited for one job may not be suited for another job, regardless of their expertise in the former job.)

Great video. Blackmore might have been the original heart of Deep Purple, but Jon Lord was the soul of the group, and, frankly, I miss him more than Ritchie. Steve Morse, by the way, has been in DP longer than Blackmore ever was, never had a prima-donna tantrum, and is always upbeat and happy. Ritchie seems happier dressed in tights and prancing around with his mandolin these days, so I shall continue to be awed by his playing, but be happy that Steve Morse is now in the band.

@slayerisius Who am I to judge? Who are YOU? Besides, the only true judges are the rest of the members of the band. And as far as really good songs penned with Morse, that would be most of them. They don't get the airplay the classics get, but the entire music industry has changed since then, so it wouldn't matter WHO was playing guitar for Purple.... the airplay would be the same. Steve Morse was chosen to be in Deep Purple by the band, and they know far more than I claim to.

@KayakMike1963 i really think that blackmore was the secret of deep purples success ;) Lord, Gillan, Morse were AMAZING musicians (so was blackmore) but i believe that blackmore was the mastermind of the band ;) the one thing i like most in deep purple are the mindblowing riffs in each and every song of theirs... and blackmore is responsible for these riffs ;)

Excellent photo montage for a brilliant song. Thanks! And for those who think DP died with Blackmore.... you might want to ask the BAND about that. Morse has been in the band for longer than Blackmore was at this point, and they always look and seem happy when playing with Morse, whereas it was a major struggle with RB. The loss of Jon Lord was a far bigger one if you ask me, and yet I'm certainly not one to say DP is dead due to Don Airey. Be glad they are still out there playing!

Of course I know when the song was WRITTEN... but I like Morse's version better, not to mention that, by the time the song was composed, Blackmore had pretty much permanently offended the entire band. It was indeed time for him to take his permanent leave, and I'm glad he did.

And I dont agree with you that DP died when RB left the Band! Morse also wrote incredible songs like "Sometimes I feel Like Screaming".
