ay dude im visiting utah and im in draper right now but what setup do u use to catch them im from california and its alot differetn there im going tuesday the 27th and if u could get back to me asap that would be great im going to cabelas today to get stuff too
Word from the wise, but you most likely drowned that trout by trying to revive it the way you did. You NEVER NEVER pull a fish back and forth like that. Even one pull backwards like will do damage no matter what. You need to point the trout towards the current and let the water gently flow by its gills. I fly fish the middle Provo all the time and I really love that river. Respect the fish in it. Thanks.
Mepps and Rooster tails are what they are using. No other lure is worth using in a river.
@TheDevoutsoldier well i appreciate your concern but you should probably direct it towards people that actually kill or eat the fish. I have seen the reviving both ways online, and the fish i release are always fine, and that should suffice. Plus, i'm pretty sure there are additional lures out there that can shake things up! Thanks for watchin.
Never been to Utah myself, but what kind of rod do you use. Im trying to find a good rod to pack into remote spots but all the ones I have tried so far break upon first use.
@wheresleeoswald Hey, i have always used cheap poles for stream fishing. I like poles that are around 5 feet long (feels like a better fight), and spend my money on a big reel with a high gear ratio. Given the speed of the stream, i like something that can reel fast enough.
You 'blanked out' the spoons you were using so people wouldn't know? WOAH!! Thought we fly fishermen were bad enough ha! ha! You are very lucky to have fish like that in a small river/stream, make sure you take care of it.
Nice :) I'm just getting back into fishing, caught some trout and a smallie in Deer Creek this past weekend with my kids. Never river fished before though, so not sure what I'm doing. Maybe I'll see you on the Provo :) GO COUGARS!
can a 20 inch trout weigh 11 pounds?!?!? my friend says they can but i would think that is IMPOSSIBLE!!! h says he cought some that big but a 25 inch one my dad caught was only 6 pounds!!! reply ASAP!
@317KRGH Highly unlikely. You are right on track with the length and weight of the Trout your dad caught. I caught a wild Rainbow in the Bridgeport reservoir in the California Sierra's that was 5 lbs 11 oz and was 26 inches long. Was a fairly chunky fish also. I have seen some 28 and 29 inch fish that were between 8 and 12 lbs. however they were broodstock planters that were over fed at the hatchery to fatten them up.
dudeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee never revive a fish by pulling it back and forth! only pull it forward a trout can die if water is sent backwards through the gills
what i do like this is cast out upstream and reel in the line that comes to u. it acts like the fishes natural food. they face upstream and wait for food to come to them. Current FTW baby!
I love fishing trout w/spinners...and I do w/a flyrod..Ibuild my own lures w/a single hook(for easy release) and can manipulate the lure thru current and cover better w/a static retrieve (no reel action..only rod control)...lots of fun
well, 8 pound fluoroclear. Works great for me. Its a hybrid line and i feel a little more strength with it in cover than fluorocarbon, but that's just me. Never had one break me off in the stream and hopefully that's not cause my fish are small
you don't need to fly fish to catch nice trout. First things first, don't be afraid to fish the spots that seem impossible to get to. catch and release. rip'n'lips baby!
i know exactly what you mean about loving to fish streams but not wanting to fly fish it. i love fishing with my ultra light using a perch rapala, i nail em
dude why did you block out the lures you were using
