  • That is a beautiful machine! I hope to get a Taig lathe in the future so I can make a few myself.

  • Hi just seen your engine running great ! I am haveing a otto 1895 engine machined for me soon and would like to know from you the best and most simple way to run it !Can i buy the right bits in uk or do i need to contact cnc in the states Best regards bill

  • Hi,

If you are using Heinz Kornmüller's catings for your Otto, this engine was designed to use a concealed 4 stroke glow plug, though you may be able to convert it to spark, I wouldn't. He provides comprehensive ignition info with his castings. UK stockists of ignition equipment you could try include 'Hemingway', 'minimagneto', but the biggest is 'Just-engines' - you will need to google them as hyperlinks won't work in youtube comments. Cheers, ....

  • could you use cosntant spark? i saw on here someone who had a handmade engine that used constant spark.

  • Hi,

By 'constant spark' I presume you mean a 'buzz coil' - yes, you can use this type of ignition on this engine. I prefer single spark as it is far more efficient and a set of batteries lasts all day.

  • @enginebodger not sure what a buzz coil is but i basically mean hooking a battery up to a spark plug. haha. not sure if it would work at all

  • A simple electric ignition can be made with a magnetic switch, a transformer (from an old DC adapter but wired in revers) a power supply and a small magnet placed on a wheel (flywheel). That causes to pulse the current and the transformer makes the spark! or use a Piezoelectric ignition!

  • Looks like some Otto-Deutz engine....

  • Nice to see there are some REAL engineers still out there, dont think there are many skilled in the the last few generation X's

  • Many thanks for the kind words.

  • Magnifique, BRAVO !!!

  • Thanks enginebodger, I will try and get some of that fuel to try in my engine. Using unleaded at the moment but soots the plug up quickly.

  • Nice engine, who's design is it? what fuel is it running on?

  • Hi, Sorry for the delay in replying. The engine is a Phil Duclos design that was covered several years ago in the 'The Home Shop Machinist' magazine. I run the engine on 'white gas' only, either Colemans (expensive here in the UK) or more usually 'Aspen 4T', as it is cleaner to handle, has little smell and does not have the nasty side effects of the stuff you use in your car. Cheers
