Hi Len, can hear from the lovely whine of the gearbox that it's a dog box? I've just had on fitted to my Ibiza and trying to shift up without the clutch but it feels I can shift better when using the clutch. I see that you are clutching up the gears, have you found this the better choice yourself?
@DinkyDave05 Sorry mate,not a dog box,but a Gemini box,1st and 2nd are standard,3rd,4th and 5th are gemini cogs,plus other mods,which gives a strong box,l have never had a problem with it,but you must use the clutch.Dog b oxes are ok if you have a good one,but are subject to lots of maintenance.Gemini boxes are hard to find now,l think they cost around £4500,back in 94.
Yes, I know 3rd gear seems wrong but it is actually quicker (according to the data logger)! Makes braking for the hairpin easier too without having to downshift (particularly being on a slight bend). Because the engine produces such a lot of torque and being slightly downhill it's not a problem!
HI,THE LAST CORNER BEFORE THE FINISH IS ACTUALLY CALLED "BARN",there used to be a barn there,and on racedays they left the doors open,for any unfortunate who went off there!The reason for using 3rdgear there is that 2nd is a little bit short,but the technique is to shift into third on entry to the bend,then floor the pedal.The torquey vr6 then kicks in nicely on exit.l nicked third place from Nick Adcock in a VWCUP race,on the drag to the flag,as he used 2nd gear,then had to change again.
just did cadwell in a standard vr6 today the gearing on your car is sooo much better!
i was kinda stuck between 2nd and 3rd all day 2nd to low for some corners 3rd to high so it bogged down!

that U turn before finish line looks to hard for 3. gear... every lap you want to change to lower gear but you don't...
btw. i like you driving and that car is awesome... i see that you got really short gearing on him...
