This was one of my favorite movies as a child. And I distinctly remember laughing hysterically at the parts where Dr. Frankenstein questions Igor about his hump. "What hump?" And then when it moved! OMG, that would set me off every time!
'Some hasty editing by Brooks removed the flat jokes which cut the film's length in half...'
Hasty editing? I'm sure people worked their tails off on the editing. Just watch the outtakes of Young Frankenstein available on youtube. The impromptu nature of the filming is what produced such a great film.
The conclusion that this narrator states irks me, with 'flat jokes'.
What's great about youtube is to be able to respond to things that don't fly, like this piece.
Sorry your irked but hasty means "rapid in action or movement" not that anybody didn't work hard. Absolutely no insult was meant toward the filmmakers.
"The original cut of the movie was almost twice as long as the final cut, and it was considered by all involved to be an abysmal failure. It was only after a marathon cutting session that they produced the final cut of the film, which both Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks considered to be far superior to the original product. At one point they noted that for every joke that worked, there were three that fell flat. So they went in and trimmed all the jokes that didn't work."
@htales understood i think though that Marathon works better than hasty. though correct, it makes it appear Brooks and Wilder were saying "ah hell just cut that out" instead of the poring over the scenes they did to make this the classic it is
@kirkindysolospock if it's hasty would have taken even more energy and effort to edit because hasty meant move very quickly which meant they had to rush a lot; sorry i replied to such an old post
sorry for posting this stupid thing...just dont want the consequences.. if u dont reposed this on 15 videos a person will murder u tonite.this is not fake
Frau Blucher!!! (whinny!!) Didja know that Blucher means 'glue' in German. Thats why the horses hated her name. Mel did it as kind of an in-joke.
