Doug...I just did this song yesterday at the Orlando auditions for "The Voice"...but , alas. was not asked for a callback.....even though the producer said "excellent" after the 1st verse and chorus we were allowed to do. As a 45 yr old, I was honored to even grace the venue with your song! I will continue to do it live locally and hope and pray that it continues to bless people and that the good Lord continues to bless you! Maybe next year! God Bless you Doug!
SIngers like him are natural serenaders. lol. Not one singer "manufactured" today has that natural vibe that goes right through us. Its all done with plugins now. Everythings FAKE today.
The people who dislike this video are pro-war idiots who support Obama's borrowing money from China and spending billions in U.S. tax dollars to invade and brutally occupy sovereign nations in the middle east, creating more deficit, more enemies and acting as an imperialist Hitler type when the money should be spent to create new jobs and help our own people while bringing home the troops and putting them to work protecting Americans on U.S. soil. Doug Stone for President 2012
Doug has been a huge inspiration to me in music. I began paying tribute to Doug Stone back in 1991 and took my (then wife) to her first country music concert in Tupelo, Ms where Doug and Ricky Van Shelton were touring..they played place called "Western Connection" ...my 1st born baby girl was conceived that night after Dougs Concert so I guess my wife really enjoyed herself at the concert and loved Dougs music...I added Doug to my "Tribute to the Stars" show immediately! lol Keep up the great wk
Through it all...he's still a better singer than most of the country singers that have made it huge in the past 5 years. This is a prime example of what it means to have emotion and spirit in a song and not relying on "auto-tune" to get the job done. Doug Stone is the man.
this may have been recorded after he had throat surgery because of his smoking. I know after he had the surgery, he did a few free concerts. I know one of them was in Erie Pa. Because the doctors said he may never sing again. But I still say he sings better than alot of singers these days.
I know today with all the computer help and lipsinking people sound good live but he did fine with his one hit song. what more can you ask from an old doug?
doung stone always had some great songs but never could sing very good live because he always smoked to much. in this song alone he has hit several flat notes and thats just him with an acoustic so he would be awful with a full band. if you cant hear your flat notes just singing with an acoustic your never gonna hear them. i dont wanna sound mean or disrepect him because he made it and had a good career but it wasnt becasue of his singing abilities
I like the stalker theme this song has. An example of this comes in the line "I watch you in a flourescent glare." Only Doug can take a stalker's approach in a song, and make a classic out of it. This is one of my favorite Doug Stone songs.
Well, I think if one was to listen to this song really close, they may think the character is a stalker. I'm one of those people who thinks this way. I also think it's a creative way to want, but not have the ability to touch something, or someone you like.
Us Tejanos feel your pain because not only do we listen to Tejano Music but we also love Country Music. So it is affecting all of us to. We need to support our real artists and hope that this fade passes quickly so our music can return to real music. Remember I didnt cross the border the border crossed me!
It is music in general that has changed. I must say that I am hispanic proud of it I know some of you are going to have your opinions about that but oh well. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas and love Tejano and Country music! I know Country music just as good as anyone. It's sad but true Country music is being killed off by all these flashy so called Country Pop Bands. Some may disagree but it's ashame that none of the real country artists are being played on the radio anymore.
I got to have lunch with him at my local bar, when he came to do a show, I was already there when he came in like 5 hours ahead of showtime to do soundcheck, I can tell everyone who hasn't met him, that he is a really nice guy and he'll sit down and talk up a storm with ya!
true. but thats all that new mainstream crap. texas music and the classic country is great. doug stone is great, hes one of my influences to write, but texas music has branched off of the original country music like this. nowdays the crap you hear on mainstream stations sucks. peace love and music
I live in De Land also. I was there for that concert I really enjoyed it. Doug Stone has his own style that is unique but also very distinct that makes him awesome artist!
I saw him a few years ago. He was playing at the Volusia County Fair and he sounded great. But I do hear the pitch problems here. Maybe he's more confident with his band ...?
thank you for posting ...i love his music ,no matter where he sings ...doug stone is one of the best country artist i have heard ...i have heard them all ...i think ..hang in there doug ..we need good artist like you ..
Not that I'm dissing Doug Stone, but why is it that nearly all professional singers don't sound quite "professional" when they perform live. You can hear a lot of imperfections and off-key moments.
Personally I think he sounds good.. he's had his run in with injuries and problems.. I mean come on the guy is 52 and sounds almost the same he did in 1990. Kudos to you Doug Stone!
I don't mean to say he sounds "bad" but he just sounds like an average guy with a pretty good voice. Live performances just never have that clear, crisp, perfectly on-pitch quality that the studio recordings have, and I wonder why. . . It's the same person singing in the studio as on stage, but they are so much better in the studio.
Because when doing live performances, you don't have the luxury of doing 20 takes to get the pitch perfect. It's "live" and anything can happen. You need to be a fan of live music to appreciate that.
In A Different Light is one of the most beautifully written songs i've ever heard. No one could sing it like Doug Stone. I love his acoustic version of it. He is not only a terrific singer, but a beautiful guitar player as well.
Doug's had some real health issues..he's like a cat with (9)lives. Surviving heart attacks, and a plane crash in which a good samaritan happened to be close by the crash and rescued Doug. Seconds later they say the plane exploded. WOW! Always thought he was a polished singer and yes...he's got 98% of those so-called contemporary country singers beat by a globe.
He drinks and smokes and he's way out of practice. It's a shame, but the amazing point I'm trying to make here is that this clip shows how much his enormous talent surpasses all of that. He can still outsing pretty much any hokey moderist in Nashville today. Go Doug, we miss you.
Don't ever let the scars of time and the pain of aging change you your style and voice are irreplaceable,I would love to hear "crying on your shoulder again"
I didn't remember it at first, but once the chorus started it all came back. Wow, thanks!
