But honestly, public funeral or not, when a celebrity dies, it becomes big news. As for the commanders who partially covered it up, they should, as you say, be disciplined. As I said, friendly fire happens a lot in every war, and this is no special case. I just did as much research on this as I could find on the net and the best direct description of his death was in the movie documentary in the statements of O'Neil. I didn't read the book. Ofcourse O'Neil could be lying but he claimed that he saw that Pat's head was missing right after he got hit. But honestly, public funeral or not, when a celebrity dies, it becomes big news. As for the commanders who partially covered it up, they should, as you say, be disciplined. Frankly there is a problem when he is shouting I'm "Pat Fucking Tillman" right before he is shoot, his uniform and personal items (including his journal) were burned after wards. This has to raise some eye-brows. This is not standard military protocol which is why a sincere and thorough investigation needs to happen. I don't personally believe it was murder, but there is a whole lot of evidence to suggest it could have been. (TBC...)

After watching the documentary I´d say he wasn´t executed but he was hit by a 50. cal round to the head since the person who was in cover right next to him gave a graphic description of Pat´s final moments. That person states that he took a hit to the head after whitch his entire head was missing. The army just spinned the story into some bullshit propaganda as they ususally seem to try. I just did as much research on this as I could find on the net and the best direct description of his death was in the movie documentary in the statements of O'Neil. I didn't read the book. Ofcourse O'Neil could be lying but he claimed that he saw that Pat's head was missing right after he got hit. Tilman seemed to be a pretty sharp guy. I kind of wonder how he walked away from a nice contract to get suckered into some bullshit. He should have known about Iraq before he got there. The first gulf war was a load of shit also so he should have known. I wonder if it went deeper and that is why he was offed. He was in the wrong place to be talking all that anti-war stuff. The military industrial don't take kindly to that. They wanted to do a propaganda spin on him. But he wasn't having.

@marty3212000 if you dig deeper into the story you'll learn that the real controversy is the possibility that pat tilman was intentionally killed by friendly fire. Pat was likely to come home and speak out on how terrible this war is. americans golden boy hero condemning the war on terror? thats a PR disaster. its really not that far fetched to suggest that he was killed by the US for political purposes. I mean, whats one death mean to the government? absolutely nothing.

The case has nothing to do with him dying in war but rather with the fact the highest officials in military lied to his family and the public about the manner in which he died (from friendly fire). They tried to spin a story about heroism. The family is trying to dismantle that mythology. He was anything but spoiled

@marty3212000 The military was trying to make him out to be a hero in the eyes of the American public whereas the family wants the truth told (about war being ugly, unpleasant and often fatal). If they were overachievers as you claim, they'd have been satisfied with the official story because it makes their son out to be a hero. If he thought he was special, he'd have never enlisted in the first place, leaving behind a multi million dollar football contract. Watch the film.
