Although this is not what Leiber ans Stoller intended it's supposed to be a different, blusey treatment of this song. and it works very well. There are some serious imbeciles on YouTube. Anyone thinking Elkie Brooks is a 'trash vocalist' are clueless beyond words. (Shakes head).

@m06een00 This was taken from Elkie's album "Two Days Away" which was produced by Lieber & Stoller. I feel this IS very much what was intended.Elkie vocals are and have always been superb.

This is truly terrible; no tune, no rhythm and Brooks getting only half-hearted support from the band and backing singers who, I strongly suspect, know how bad it is. An ill-judged and unpleasant cover of this great song.

What you need is stayin' away from this song. She couldn't even re-write the lyrics (as she's a woman, the word "chicks" had ta be modified) she put an extra (and really poor) line in This song (the original) is one of the rare tunes that mad complete sense & told a funny story in the '60s.Where's the copper from the story y'know the punch-line! And she made those guys singing this fuckin' "gonna give my man some love potion # 9" ... pathetic vocalists and trash cover! POMY COLLINGWOOD

No matter who did the "new" lyrics, Stoller & Lieber might be great musicians but they smelled dough so they did this cover. It is really poor, still I say and about your remark: I do know my music and I have a nice deal of information of the inside-of-music-creating-and-s­elling it does not save U or this production! believe it or not I actually remember seeing this Sight & Sound concert on TV at the time (I was 9 in 1977). I remember it being on past my bedtime and sneakily watching it while half hiding behind the living room door. I also remember Elkie making me feel a bit strange ...it must have been that jump suit!!

saw her a coupla months ago...dress sense is horrendous (miaow) but boy...the voice is still amazing!!! Second spot was quite bluesy...for me..that's the style she does best!!! This lady survives the passage of time...terrific!!!

Elkie Brooks is the bomb!! I've loved her for years and years.. I saw her in concert in Dublin years ago and when I came to the states I couldn't get any albums of hers no one knew who she was. Thank god for Itunes and Youtube!! Yay Elkie!

Shame this one was edited out of the BBC Sight and Sound half hour concert last week. The original 1977 show was an hour long with 14 songs not just the 8 of last week
