  • Same problem.. HP doesnt care for their customers... No HP product for me in future.. Everybody should boycott HP laptops

  • HP sucks BOYCOTT

  • You people need to stop being cheapskates and just buy a Mac...simplicity and elegance.

  • OWNED!!!!!

  • ah this may explain why the wireless does not work no matter if i replaced the card and drivers seems to still not detect wireless silly hp is a shame as i was doing it to help a friend out i build all my comps i never buy as problems persist over and over atleast if u build u can atleast identify the problem from the start aka u lag in games first look is the graphics card or u have power lags higher wattage needed for psu black screen on hp = prosessor if all the rest work aka lights etc

  • Try a copper shim to lower your gpu temps. Only $5 and comes with thermal paste. Search for "DV9000 Copper Shim" on ebay.

  • I THOUGHT I WAS ALL ALONE!!! ts bittersweet to know that I am not the only one out there cussing and swearing because their laptop is a piece of crap!

  • Yeah HP sucks! Dont ever buy HP products again!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • DV2500 , aka DV2000 AKA DV2845SE

An extended warranty was put is place for some models , although my DV2500 was not on the very limited list . , it is the same NVIDIA issue . HP are trying to cop out . there are thousands of users that are unhappy as all have the same issue , bad design .

    my serial number is 2ce8124453

    DV2845se .

    no boot no post .

any ideas , hp support bouncers said your not on the list .

  • any luck with HP?? , my DV2500 just died , hp said no warranty . my DV2500 is less than 2 years old . see hp support search nvidia , our DV2500 is not covered even though same fault. video died in front of me , no reboot any ideas ? total no boot , no post , black screen … same symptoms as other fails .

  • Yeah I took out the extended warranty and the pc failed 2 months after expiry. Spoke to the shop who sold the Dv900 HP (short for Heap of Poo) and they run the other way saying that they knew of no problems with the HP. Lies all lies. The battery failed just after one year and this is when the Pc did a battery diagnostic and told me that the battery was shot $240. Shame it did not do the diagnostic one month earlier. I got shafted by HP. $2600 Pc not worth anything with all my important info on.

  • Actually, HP DID have a limited warranty service enahncement on some of these units for up to 24 months from DOP. The newer revision of this motherboard from HP are flashed with a newer version of BIOS than what is found on the HP site, as well as a more up to date video card.

  • Ha! My HP DV9000 (9310US) that I purchased in May 2007, completely failed on me in April 2010. After going around and around with HP (which I documented well), then filing a small claim in my local court house, HP called and offered me a settlement (which I re-negotiated to a higher amount). I took the settlement and purchased a new (non-HP) laptop and I'm now loving life!

  • Never going to buy HP again.I had same mother board heat problem.

  • I can't believe people are still buying HP computers!!

  • I bought a loaded dv9500t, double hd, etc back in November 2007. GPU problem two months. I did my checking on the 'net and found out about widespread problem with the Nvidia part. Anyhoo, HP tells me the cut off for 3-year extended warranty was the dv9400; as a great favor they asked me to pay $398 for a new mobo.-- hahahaha. Needless to say, I'll never buy another PC from HP.

  • I recently sued HP for the sum of $665.

They asked for the laptop back and sent a box for me to send it back in.

I settled out of court by the way.

At this rate, there is no other option except to sue for the cost of your laptop. They will no longer give free repairs AT ALL. TO ANYONE.

YOU MUST SUE. (I am not a lawyer and do not take my legal advice seriously)

  • @sushiserv: If you have confidence in your case (supported by proper documentation), you probably won't even have to go to court. They'll call and offer a settlement.

  • @ChocolateEarth I didn't even go to court. I settled ooc for $665. :3

  • I was recently informed that HP have offered a 3 year extended warranty on all DV series laptops - call em up and get them to repair it for free!! Although if they put the same Mobo in, surely it's gonna fail again after a year!!!

  • This is a lie. About the 3 years - the failing again part is true.

  • Ive had this computer for a little over three years and I am just getting that problem. I thought it had something to do with my registry so i cleaned it out checked for bugs, malware, trojans, etc and Im still getting the problem. I did not know it had something to do with the gpu. I sometimes have to boot it 5 times so i can fully boot up. all i have to say is FUCK HP!!!!

  • hp sux azz i would love to see them get sewed

  • My HP/Compaq laptop now completely failed me cause of the nvidia defect. BTW - did u really have to put the "Heartless" tune to this? haha

  • Same problem with same computer. Started over heating. Didnt help much to switch to Linux and then the pixelating a month or so after. Then suddenly it froze and refused to go past the BIOS start-up screen. Now the graphics card is all dead and only show a grey screen when it starts. Fortunately no data on it - but to you guys that fear that you have lost data; please calm down. You can still pull out the hard disk and empty it that way :o) But not impressed with HP now I am on Sony..

  • Instead of issuing a recall for the faulty notebooks HP released a "BIOS update". How can a BIOS update fix defective manufacturing? It can't. The update is just designed to get you beyond your warranty before the death, thus saving HP money. Good accounting decision, bad business decision. Hewlett Packard was once a well respected and honest company but now is a cold-hearted, bottom-line business that lacks empathy for their customers.

  • @jepnlp exactly. they knew this was happening in 2007 but as you said, they released a BIOS update claiming a "fix" which really just prolonged the life of the laptop until the warranty was over.

  • Jepnlp, you are exactly right.

The so called bios update just makes the fan run faster, which keeps the graphics chip cooler so it will last long enough to fail AFTER the warranty expires.

I read that the problem is the solder on the graphics chip. After getting hot so many times, the solder cracks and your screen has problems that just get worse.

I don't have one, but I suggest nagging Hewlett Packard until they fix your notebook. If that doesn't work, file with small claims court.

  • @jepnlp

hp are communist made chinese junk.

  • ppl thats because video card on dv9500 IS CRAP/SHIT like 8400m !!

I have now same problem after 2years

now my pc works only with VGA!

  • What a bunch of crap. My HP DV9000 failed this week. I am a junior in high school, and i was completing a paper, when my piece of garbage died on me. Now i have lost my paper and itunes library and whatever else is on this piece of ****. I have to go buy a hard drive enclosure thanks to the a holes at hp. I called up customer support, and they said sorry we re not going to fix it even through it has been recalled, and it is a known problem. HP suck on something. IM done with you.

  • I have the same issue with my HP dv9500. After 18 months, the video card started giving me problem and it ultimately died. I contacted HP and my warranty had expired; now they tell me that the only way is to send it to them so they can fix it, but it will cost me $400. Now I have a $2,000 brick sitting on my desk! HP knew about the defect and they should repair for it free of charge!!!

  • Way to go, son! on the process to small claim....

  • @funoffan we need a class action lawsuit against them!!

  • I'LL NEVER BUY HP AGAIN! My DV9720 about 9 mons out I had it fixed 5 times by them (under warranty) Keep over heating got fan to cool down worked 4 a while The Tech told me this is common he uses a fan for his also (!!!!!!?????!!!!!) this is CRAZY! I got mine from Circuit City and a x tended warranty so now it's out being repaired. My next notebook will be a Dell!

  • Dell are just slightly less prone to failure than HPs. Get a Asus or a Sony. Or if you wanna buy "american" get a mac.

  • No problems at all first year with HP dv6599en , BUT this LP is getting old very fast, now it's overheating, processor doing fuck knows what etc, HP SUCK"S !!!!!!!!!

  • First its overheating, probably to 85C or higher. Then it's going to be BSODs (will get higher in number as days pass by). Then your wireless will die. Then, you will lose display and the mobo/gpu will fry.

  • I have hp dv9700 and I have very messed up display that works half the time... red and black with lines and scramled and sometimes digital defects... I do not want anymore hp!

  • I have the exact same problem on my main work laptop - which is supposed to last 5 years in my opinion. I'm never touching HP again, and either should anyone else. Spread the word!

  • My laptop has the same issues specifically the dead nvidia chip... I lost 1600 dollars for what I expected to last 5 years, 1 yr and 3 months later it hit me... Now as I checked online it says there 2 years carry in and parts covered, but if replaced by the same defective parts it means it would die again in a year or less... We need a refund or to be replaced with the newer models. That's what HP should do...

  • well done am a computer technician, and am discusted with hp have 18 month old dv9500 and several dv6000 all dead.

    regards Alan G MCP

  • nice vid and music..... same problem here... my dv2000 wont boot all light on just like in the video called hp their charging me $400 to have it repaired! f@#k u HP.

  • Thanks... I made this to show how I feel about my doorstop dv9500, and many feel the same.

  • had the same problem, sent it out for repairs (they said it was videocard failure)

month(!!!) later - shuts down by itself and wouldn't turn back on again (freezes up on the screen with the green scroller/windows loading)

so yeah, moral of the story - get a new laptop if you can, dont waste your money on repairs.

  • Be sure to check out all of the info at hplies . My laptop is a doorstop now, and HP is refusing to repair/replace it. It was a known defect before I even purchased it. I am holding out for a total replacement, but it will take some doing to get it.

  • I would suggest you guys read some of the info at hplies. com My laptop is now a doorstop. HP won't fix it, and it was a known defect before I even purchased it. There is some good info on that site that may help get yours fixed.

  • Yep, I'm out $1400 on my purchase. Many that I know are experiencing this problem on their dv and tx series laptops. Because of HPs response I'm not buying their shitty products ever again, and neither should you or anyone else with a brain in their head.

  • I'd also like to mention that it affects the TX series too!

  • I love the song... it's so true. HP has really screwed A LOT of customers... I am now out $1,500 of my hard earned money while Marc Hurd spends his $33mil.

  • If you have an HP laptop experiencing display issues, post a video of it and make it a response to this video. Maybe it'll attract HP's attention more. In the mean time I'm gonna put this laptop aside until hp recalls it and fixes it for free.
