The reason why the question marks are on Yoshi Valley is because the computer is unable to tell who's in what position, as there are so many different paths to take on the course. Once again a great video btw. :)

In Yoshi Valley I like the aspect of the mystery places but I don't understand why it's in the course either. Maybe if it was an option to turn the places on and off then that would be a little better.

Yeah, the mystery boxes are displayed there, because since the course tracks have multiple pathways, the racers go in different paths which also explains why there are alot of narrow paths causing you to fall off, and we don't know who already went to the finish line. So I guess that's why they are marked as ? marks.

My guess is that rather than calculating how far along each player is whichever of the many paths there are, the game would probably slow down a lot. Gotta think about the limitations of the N64.

Because of the multiple pathways the N64 can't generate the ranking fast enough. So the deveopers decided to disable that function and show question marks. Fastest path in yoshis valley is:

Enter area=> right and then the first turn left.

D.K.'s Jungle was one my favorites in all The Mario Kart games. Hell, every single one of his tracks were fun and full of epicness! And the Wii was definately remade and remastered. It was great.

I love the SNES Rainbow Road because of the music, and because I practiced real hard on it and got good at staying on the course with Toad/Koopa-Troopa, so no one could beat me on it.. XD But MK64's didn't give me that advantage, and it was really really long.

The reason Yoshi Valley has the mystery places is due to the processing power of the N64. It was not powerful enough to process who was is in what place due to all the branching paths. Just a fun fact about it. :D
